In 1963 the UK was over 99% white. It was made for a UK audience, specifically a young male audience who would statistically be overwhelmingly straight. So yes, it was made for straight white males.

The thing that really pisses me off is these sort of changes to established ip come out of nowhere and are handled with the writers version of take a sledge hammer to everything and take a dump on what remains to mark our territory! The issue with a female Doctor was never that she was a woman. It's how they gave a master class in how NOT to write a strong female character. Imo they really screwed over Jodie Whittaker and let her down with what they gave her to work with. Star Trek did the exact same thing with ST:D. It's like they decided "this central character has to be the smartest and strongest in every room they are in...so we'll dumb everyone else down making them drooling idiots and put obsticles of adversity in the way for our main character to over come like make all the men mysoginistic Neanderthals" instead of actually learn how to make compelling stories with a strong lead character that has aspects about then people can respect and look up to. Groundbreaking change...never seen before in scifi...so Babylon 5, Star Trek TNG, DS9, VOY and Enterprise, Battlestar Galactica never happened then?! BSG is actually a prime example. When it came out Katee Sackhoff was cast as Starbuck ppl lost their minds about making such a change. The original was good enough and shouldn't be messed with...and then instantly went "oh... I get it and this is amazing" when it came out and they got to see Katee Sackhoff be Starbuck. Audience didn't fall in line because she was a woman. They got behind a well writen character that earned their respect. On second thoughts it IS groundbreaking change never seen before. Never have so many in movie and TV been so keen to utterly destroy what has been handed to them with established IP and stories. I grew up with Doctor who. In fact, the show helped me through some hard shit in my life. Some of the Doctors I felt I resonated with. And then the female Doctor happens and the writing goes to shit. Then now specifically targeting and discriminating my race and gender. This hurt. Its like being punched by a parent for no reason. This is just hurtful dialog with none of the spirit the show had in the past. I LOVED this show, and they butchered it, and are rubbing it in the faces of the fans. Some my say "Get over it, its just a show!" but this "Show" felt like a piece of me. If The Doctor was a real person, he would be sickened by this.

Now, the show berates me and tells me that I am what's wrong with the world. While ruining decades of franchise history, Doctor Who has become the biggest gaslighter in entertainment.

Being black, i hate the casual conversion of established characters in various medias from white to black (and being told i have to support it) Like, just make a new and original character that's black, but don't make that their entire personality, its that simple!

Growing up in the UK, The Metro has always been that newspaper that is so bad that the only way they can get people to read it is to give it away for free. Naturally if the Metro gets such negative attention it may affect advertisers, which they are solely dependent on, because nobody is willing to actually spend money to get the Metro.

I'd say the death of doctor who started with Matt Smith's run. It's when a big part of the soul of the series died. Peter Capaldi has some fantastic episodes, but the core still felt broken to me.

I grew up watching Dr Who, my late uncle introduced me to it when I was small in the late 80s. This was very unusual as I was American and NO ONE had ever heard of it. I watched the revival in 2005 - 2010, and as a long time fan I loved it. However, I noticed as time went on it became worse and worse as if being taken over by activists and the new fan base were tourists claiming they had been there since the beginning in 2005.

The problem wasn’t that the Doctor became a woman at point it’s how they written her and the lore changes just to pander to minorities and as a minority myself and a woman that shit was cringy af. This new Doctor isn’t bad but goddamn that first episode with the space babies was too much, the Maestro episode was alright but the most recent one is the one I liked the most and where you actually see the actor shine as the Doctor and I hope the rest of the season is more like that episode. He gives me vibes of the 10th and 11th Doctors with a bit of spice from the 9th

I was annoyed when donna noble became the docter but gave it a chance, and it was good, but we had just had the amazing emily Pond who was a great female protagonist in the series! Dropped it after donna and have never warched another episode fully saw which way it was heading!!
