The Boeing EA-18G Growler is not the average warplane. While most military aircraft were built to attack enemies physically, the Growler was created for a very different kind of warfare. From: AIR WARRIORS: Prowler/Growler bit.ly/1XQKV1G
@@firstlast9731 Probably at Red Flag, that's where we dogfight our allies. There's a lot of different scenarios that get played out there, I wouldn't read too much into it. If they had a Growler sneak up and jam an F-22's radar from the rear, yeah, I could see it happening.
@@firstlast9731 F-22 carries external weapons just fine and has two under each wing for that purpose. It looses some of it's stealth but it's turning out some of the weapons don't increase the RCS by as much as we thought.
Magician, illusionist, and Matador bull fighter. Such is the job of a wild weasel crew. I would love to have a look at their spell or play books but they are under such tight lock and key.
It's cool they replaced the Prowler with an airframe that already existed, for once the Navy was being fiscally conservative instead of designing a completely new airplane for jamming.
These guys do black magic. The rear EWSO is a real magic user. I bet the rear EWSO station has hidden magic mirrors, a spell book and a small bubbling culdron.
It can be rigged up a few different ways, including Aim-9x sidewinders. But it doesn’t have an internal gun like the E and F models. They needed that room for more electronics.
Having high performance aircraft that can manipulate radar (jamming, false returns) is by far more effective than stealth that limits performance and can probably be detected anyway. If the F-35 can be detected, it would be wiped out by S-300/400 and those super maneuverable russian fighters.
@@yoyoyoyoshua yes,it can AESA radars are a new thing they send multiple beams with different frequencies and can thus detect stealth targets without a struggle
Not really. It just makes it harder for SAM systems to track and engage but at some point burn through will be in effect, that's the point when the ground radars overpower the signal strength of a jammer aircraft. It's still useful against Russian SAM systems but I wouldn't say it makes them ineffective.
No its not newer radars cant be jammed there are also special radars and missiles that can follow the jammers signal and shoot the plane down that way new russian SAM systems use AESA radar that is very resistant to jamming too
Are you making a joke or did you mean to say that the *Flanker* is using Vietnam era jamming systems? If so, I pre-emptively apologize. The AN/ALQ-99 was just updated (again) in 2014. The only similarity between this version and the one in the EA-6B is the casing. What they're using now can profile, identify, and jam an enemy radar before a second pass burn. If a Growler flew over your house and lit it up, anything not analog would be toast and your nuts would be sterilized. Where do you people get the false information you spew with such certainty? Did CNN convince you that Growlers are taking funds from inner city school lunches? You believe the 'F-35 sux' too don't you? The least of our AESA radars can burn through a Flanker jam. The Growler can create a jam they can't burn through until the missiles are already off the rails. These are facts, not knee-jerk gossip.
Steve Arthur maybe because the ALQ-99 is a 40 year old platform that was and is still capable of jamming the AWG-9 in its earliest form, in its newest highly classified form I have no doubts that it is extremely effective. The kW number which you pulled of Wikipedia is dependent on the band that you are jamming and is not the same throughout.
Steve Arthur I'm saying that the number given on wikipedia and elsewhere does not cite what band the pod would be jamming in order to achieve that number.
+135th Darksword I think that Steve Arthur must be trolling.. so trying to help him understand is futile. If he isn't trolling and he really believes what he's saying, helping him understand would be too time consuming.
@@AA-xo9uw No, it doesn't. Together with Rafale, it probably has the best EW suite in the world. It can do everything the Growler can and more, without using those antique pods.
Haha. How's Russia's only aircraft carrier doing? Oh right, it has tug boats follow it every where because Russians can't fix the engines made in Ukraine, who is refusing to fix them because Russia is a Spoiled Chihuahua acting like a wolf on the hunt.
