This Amazon scam should be illegal - but it's not! 

Mystery box : buying stuff you don’t need

In the UK, there are consumer laws for goods bought over the Internet. You have a small window of opportunity to change your mind and return the goods. You can get a refund on the goods cost and original shipping cost, but not the postage to return the goods.

I sometimes shop on Amazon. But I never purchase any of those mystery boxes. I believe that Amazon will give you your money back . They don't want bad reviews from you. Thank you for sharing.

Thank you so much, my trust in Amazon is decreasing every day. Amazon allows scammers to sell products on their site (it happened to me twice, and those products are still sold four years later). Even though they will give your money back if you can see it in time (my grandma would not!), they will not if you don't (poor grandma). Their business ethics are these, so, what you say feels on their line of honourable behaviour.

They got me about six months ago. You got way more value than I did.

It's a kind of thing here in Japan during New Years' Sale. It's called "lucky box" where lot's of useless stuff or outdated stuffs in it, maybe you'll find one usefull or nothing at all and you pay for the pricey price.

I gotta love how they're saying 65% chance of a pallet containing a brand new, side-by-side, stainless refrigerator, for $76. How does Amazon expect to keep its market share with such tactics?

It may be legal. But this is against Amazon's terms of service. Just complaint, they'll be gone and the money will be refunded.

The way I'm looking at it is these so called mystery boxes are similar to gambling and all the seller would need to do is just send out a bunch of junk like card readers that can be found in any £$ shop as it could be deemed that the seller was or is claiming that there's a high chance of getting a high priced item depending on the package size chosen. So you should be entitled your money back due to not clearly describing the contents of what you are getting and possibly contradicting them selfs by claiming its new as well as unchecked returned items, so they either know what there sending out or they dont.

That was actually pretty good stuff compared to some random box videos I have seen. Thanks for the reminder not to order them.

I know you have done a vid on how to get your pc setup to not have too much usage data being sent and stuff but it there a possibility of a vid for anyone who has bought a pc or laptop and what settings to turn off or on for best performance and privacy, also any programs you would suggest for best maintenance and security? I feel like this would help lots of people right now. appreciate what you do and all the info has helped keep my pc running better since I followed your advice so thanks muchly :)

I got scammed a few months back. I ordered a couch from Amazon thru a company called GOLO, I got an iphone 7 case,,,,yes both start with a C but hardly interchangeable . I contacted Amazon and got my money back and that company is STILL selling on Amazon,,,,,,you would think they would ban them but apparently not.

I ordered a Asus Motherboard 3 weeks ago on 2 day Prime shipping. Shipping and selling from Amazon Canada. They keep telling me they've done nothing wrong. After 8 pm today I am requesting a refund. If they refuse then its better business bureau, pissed consumer etc.

Actually I haven't been hearing good thing about Amazon lately. Especially after the pandemic started. I guess that's where the scammers took advantage of it. Then they found that way of sending less than the value you paid for as "loophole"? for the delivery services.

Pretty sure it is against the law if nothing in the list of what they showed was in the box. Even if it's not against the law, I'm pretty sure it's against Amazon's ToS. Luckily, these kinds of things really don't interest me at all.

Walmart scam: ordered a normally $35 bra from Walmart. It arrived from China. If Walmart fills your order through a third-party seller, you can not return it to Walmart. If your product comes from China, there is no return address, at least not that you can recognize as a return address. You can not return it. I got the bra. It was a knockoff (not even close) of the bra I ordered, and obviously not the size I ordered. I contacted Walmart online, Walmart contacted the seller, the seller contacted me, "What's your problem?" I reply "this is not the bra I ordered nor is it the size I ordered. They reply, "send us a picture". I can't do that. I don't have a cell phone. I reply, "I'll just return it, what address?" They say, no no, we don't want it, sorry, we can't return your money, we are having problems with the international transfer of money. And that was the last I heard from them or Walmart.

I saw someone buy a mystery box of Amazon returns and they spent about $1800 and got maybe $1100 worth of products! But I have seen others who spent $700 and got thousands worth of products. So, it is like playing the lottery and not everyone is a winner!

You get what you pay for. I like to see what I am paying for in 2023.

It's definitely a scam. We paid around $100 for what was stated to be a "pallet" and received a box similar in size to the one you received with only a single item in it.

I got scammed on Amazon and Amazon gaslit me over it and kept the money. Ordered an internal HDD 8tb . They gave me a tracking number for it and it was part of a $1050.00 order of computer stuff (I was building a computer). My bank was charged 1 lump charge of $1050.00. Everything eventually shows up except the HDD. The tracking number said it was to show up eventually on a certain day. That day rolls around and the tracking nunber tracks it to the point of telling me it will show up at my door in about 45 minutes to an hour. It was 5pm already. Then all the sudden we receive an emailing stating the item is now out of stock and we will have an option to get our money back if it doesnt refund us automatically... Something is not right here. We give it a week to show up. No money returned to the bank. We Call amazon they contact the distributor who shifts the blame right back to Amazon. Amazon then starts to claim they do not need to send any money back because they do not charge money until the item is shipped. They stone wall on that same fact for over 2 hours on the phone eventually hanging up on me. $200 gone. Then they changed the reciept from their end. Adjusting the entire reciept to show the same total but the HDD is now missing.
