Best of all it's dirt cheap & more cost effective than any other 3D printed housing method!! Berkley Prof. Ronald Rael shares his latest project from decades of global research in the 3D printed adobe space. Emerging Objects founder lives in an adobe home himself once built by his grandparents. It is the last remaining of an adobe home village in Colorado but Ronald intends to build many more. Unlike his ancestors, Prof. Rael will not be building by hand instead he will use his scarab robotic printing machine.

In a 10 000 years archeologists are going to discover this structure and are going to wander how this primitive hunter-gatherer society living in mud igloos was capable of such precision. XD

Oh, this is so beautiful, I love the basket weave effect they are getting, and the cost of materials! It simply gets better and better. Thank you so much for putting this out for the world.

Very impressive. More along the lines of WASP's initiatives. I love the, "We use our eyes and and hands to assess" approach. The technical research is great for structural analysis etc. but it's actually refreshing to see such an organic "touch-and-feel" approach to their research/exploration. Thanks for sharing

Thank you very much Jarett for this wonderful video! It is as usual very useful for those who are interested in construction by 3D printers for buildings. Thanks to your videos, we learn a lot and from a distance (I'm in Europe). We follow the rapid evolution of this new construction tool. The material cob used in this video is very well suited to our future ecovillage project, that we want to set up somewhere in Europe... To my knowledge currently there is only one company on the European continent, it is Italian and is called WASP. They have been using the same cob technique since 2014... As soon as these techniques are well developed in a reliable way and approved following stress tests; we will make sure to include them in our project to also promote them! The option of using cement is for us to exclude! Because we are only interested in natural, resistant and above all non-polluting products.

Adobe as in Cobb?! I was super in love with Cobb since I was 18 backpacking around Oregon! Omg ! I was just commenting about that on another one of your videos. Sorry for bombarding but I just found your channel by the grace of nature. I’ve always had a huge interest in home building and architecture so this is so astounding!!!

they make automated adobe brick machines that have hollow cavities built into each interlocking brick, which do NOT require mortar for things like rebar, windows, plumbing, wires, fiber optics, heating / cooling etc

AWESOME - Robotics is the way to go with structure printing. Until we can get to laser printing building, the addition of a team of smoothing robots (or two sided trowel to the 3d print heads) can get rid of the critters building webs and laying eggs in the wall problem with the current techniques being used. There are exciting design possibilities and other economical advantages of printing in hemp adobe and hempcrete. Thank you Jarett Gross for your powerful revelation series on this construction technique and Prof. Rael for your work with printing in adobe. I'm sure the ancestors are being extra blessed wherever they are in the universe(s) - This side of the James Webb telescope pictures, I publicly question if there is just one universe anymore. We're reaching for the day when a child does not have to ask their parents or teachers, 'why would anybody not have a place to live?' We are overcoming - JOY!

printing 300mm a lift between drying feels about right. It's the same maximum height you can coil build a pot to, and it's about the height you can lift a brick wall a day without mortar slumping. Seems to be a consistent limit

a lil cement and retardant would make these 150% stronger, along with a mister to slow cure these... Awesome overall though. windows and a roof would be awesome too.

I believe they are stronger that way and it maximizes interior SQFT to surface area but the printers arm has enough joints to do 90 degree corners as well.

What are the diameters of those units?
@tragedyofwind
@tragedyofwind Год назад
actually the ronald is right, this is not precise at all, it got variation, the thing u see if the pattern of the print itself, you can see each layer is print between the gap fo the bottom layer, and the gap will make the mixture fall into it, so the pattern itself is self-aligning not the machine. much less of a housing project, but it is good for storage space, like a silo.

Definitely on track with ancient geo polymer construction. Peru comes to mind with their ancient walls of irregular shaped stones that fit perfectly together.

Why don't they design arches into the plan to eliminate lintels?
@automateconstruction
@automateconstruction Год назад
I believe the lintel makes it stronger than it would be without direct vertical supports.

@@automateconstruction Arches don't need any supports. Look at the old gates to cities or underground tunnels. There's a reason they have arches. Love the interview and resonate with Ron's perception of borders, etc. I also love the outdoor theater--they were so much fun, but his idea not to need cars is really cool!
