I love both of Kaori’s programs. She is challenging herself by having diverse programs. Her recent programs have expanded her artistry. The short program is light, airy and personal and her movements show that. Her long program is mature, sultry and represents the musical style of Nina Simone, the original artist. Also, my Mom wore those types of gloves and I love them.

The judges at Japanese Nationals scored Kazuki lower in PCS than Kao and Sota... the decision to low-ball him was intentional. I think at this point we need to acknowledge that Mie Hamada is a genius with packaging despite her being a menace. Mone and Hana both have such cool programs and choreography and I can't help but root for them despite their inconsistency. My question with Mie Hamada skaters though is my same question about Eteri skaters, which is how long will they withstand her training methods before succumbing to injury? I worry a bit about Mao, too. I have a feeling Liza Tuktamysheva can restore her axel, beat Adelya, and be the top Russian woman. I think she could go toe to toe with Kaori for sure.

Even if the Russian politicking did not pull for the men as much as the other disciplines, they still get a boost in scoring relative to the other skaters they place around even though many have atrocious programs and/or atrocious performance/interpretation skills. It just shows how bad their men are generally in competition. It doesn’t mean they don’t get a boost at all while skating Russian because they still do

1:20:00 Marin is in the roster for the Collegiate Games Jan 6,7. Will be streamed live on “FOD”. Actually about a third of the entries of the Women’s, about half of the Men’s, were qualifiers at the Nationals last week, including Yuma, Shun, Nozomu, Rino Matsuike, Mana, Rion, Rinka. There are several other skaters whom you didn’t get to see at the Nationals that unfortunately bombed at the Sectionals, definitely worth watching.
@mayamae55
@mayamae55 9 месяцев назад
FYI Kaori w/d. She won the individual section last year and had a spot but since she’s the sole qualifier in her college team it didn’t make much sense to go for it- audio picked up a conversation between her and Coach Nakano at the K&C after the FS at Nationals, Kaori saying “So what’s next, Intercollegiate?” Nakano “No, the others should have it” the collegiate games are a huge festive event for the college teams and Kaori didn’t want to spoil it. Far from what’s happening in the swimming college events in the US.

I love Mone Chiba but Dave comment about her jumps being strong is incorrect. She has UR problems and in junior she was barely rotated triples, hence why we didn't hear about her that much in Junior. She manages to get some consistency last season and then fell off again in this early season (after moving to Hamada). Her main strength is skating skills, deep edges, and transitions. I just hope that Hamada doesn't break her because she's special and I hope we can see her flourish in the future

I agree that Mao's short program doesn't really work. It's hard to keep in mind that she is still REALLY young, but that program lacks spark and the choreo seems "flat" in places. As far as Jia vs. Mao, I'm Team Jia. Her long program....soooo beautiful! I can't wait to see how both of them develop over the years.

Apart from the pairs discipline, the absence of the Russians from international figure skating has been such a reprieve to the senses over the last two years. I fear their return specifically to the women's discipline will undo the entire potential development of the sport that has been made in say Belgium or Switzerland and other schools of learning/federations in Europe as we are again bamboozled with the Dani G programs coming off of a conveyor belt. And Kaori, who is awesome, probably should start working on a 3Axel if she hasn't already if she wants that gold medal in Milan.
@JeanGenie4
@JeanGenie4 10 месяцев назад
There is no development of skating here in Europe. You refer to what is merely two young skaters - Pinzarrone and Repond - neither of whom are particularly enthralling at this point. Benoit is increasingly monopolising the choreography market in Europe with sub-standard material. The upcoming European women's event will also likely show a loss in viewership by about 90% since 2022's event.

Why are we still talking quads, when it seems almost proven that they are only achievable in prepubescent girls (or those on puberty blockers), and some special mix of trimetazadine, Xenon gas, and of course good old severe calorie restriction. Even a triple axel (even) is such a rare bird of an element. Even completely rotated triple triples are hard to find as well. Though I never understood the biomechanics of having no quarter turn twist of the back or ankle, unless you have rigid rod of a spine. I think the physical limits of women's skating has been reached.

So, Japanese girls are a delight to watch, but most of them are not at all given the time of day to develop as a personality. Like good choreography and solid jumps mostly, nice presentation but then you feel you watch pretty butterflies on repeat. They do not rewards girls that are out of the box, except Kaori. Mai Mihara is one of May favorites, but nationally, is never rewarded. Mai had a solid season start last year, medalled at the Grand Prix and so on. She could have been their solid second violin. But they choose a copy of a copy of a copy. There is also the quad girl and 3A girl, but does not make an impact on me as an outsider. The issue with the Korean ladies is the same, they have the same package and PR, like they all want the stars to align and create another Yuna Kim. Which is a shame, they have so so much potential, Haein is so spubky, Young You so lirical, but they benefit from the same ballet princess treatment. The Junior two times silver medalist in junior that they have does the same, from what I know. What good is solid, technique, artistry and so much training and pressure if the result is just the same. Ballet Princess does not work for everyone. As for Russia's comeback does not excite me at all. In the sense that I do not wish to see 140 cm children struggling to jump the qauds while being emaciated and frightened. Like, Petrosyan's quads never looked okay, Trusova, Valieva and even Scherbakova's quads lookes good or half good at times. But not with Petrosyan. Poor Muravyeva is lost in the space and loses her momentum when she does not have best programs. Tuktamisheva, if she ever comes back, looks the best for me, if she keeps her relatively consistent 3A, ok triples and occasional Quad attempts off competition. Valieva is done for even if she could have pushed it past 18 with a better coaching situation, sans abuse and the suspension that it to come.

I'm surprised you guys are predicting that Russian skaters would be back in int'l competition. It does not seem that it's likely at all. They are unlikely to return to 3-quota status in mens' and dance any time soon.

@@TheSkatingLesson If by "to fight for one quota" you mean getting unbanned by the ISU, then yes, that's definitely the hard part. I think it's also pretty apparent, even from watching her on tv, that Mone Chibe skates a lot slower than Kaori and her jumps are nowhere near as big. Kaori's jumps are huge and she does everything with a lot of speed, which translates to higher GOE.

Mone Chiba is prone to URs and have small jumps. She also had a terrible GP season. That’s how figure skating scoring goes
@hbattagl
@hbattagl 10 месяцев назад
Kaori’s speed, sizes of jumps and skating skills give her exceptionally high GOEs and PCS, I think. Her 2A’s exit speed that I I saw once was 21km/h (Hanyu and Shoma had something like 13-18km/h) and this time her 2A distance, 3.65m, was the largest among both men’s and women’s (Men’s largest one was Kao’s 3A that was 3.1m. )
@joeyartk
@joeyartk 10 месяцев назад
@@hbattaglThis isn't speed skating. Having good speed is a positive, but it's never been a huge factor in scoring. The same thing goes with length of jump. Especially with 2As, height has always been the bigger positive factor than length.
@joeyartk
@joeyartk 10 месяцев назад
@@evanperilstein5308I'm not saying Kaori should not necessarily get higher PCS and GOE than Mone. I'm saying the scale is way overblown. As Rafael Artuniyan said, it should be +1-1 scale for GOE. The +5 scale gives the judges too much power to manipulate scoring, which they already have too much of. That competition should have been close and Sakamoto should have been under pressure instead of a walk in the park. Aside from that, Kaori was not called on her obvious wrong edge takeoffs on her lutz, and her takeoff form on her pick jumps is terribly cheated and should result in lower GOE.

I love you guys but you’re spending most of the stream talking about the Russians👎 I wished you’d gone through the women’s performances instead.

Mone Shiba is a younger version of Marin Honda. Her jumps aree small and prone to UR and she will fade away quickly when she put up some weight and when her body grows. Wakaba is past tense. Hana Yoshina is the only Japanese woman with good quality jumps. Mao shimada has great techniques , but her jumps are not that big either.

Mone chiba is already 18 and has a sustainable jump technique that relies on her muscle mass and not cheated takeoff and being underweight so she will be fine don't worry she is just starting at the age of 18 and not retiring with career ending injuries at 17😊

Merry Christmas! Happy holidays. Happy belated Hanukkah. Wish you would cover Russian nationals. Valieva was divine. She admitted that her extra weight held her down a bit. She will lose it and get back in top form but even at her worst she's still the most beautiful to watch. Prima ballerina, rhythmic gymnast, and modern dancer on ice

For some reason I'm not interested in Japanese skating anymore. From the men only Kao is charismatic though he has some other issues. Kagiyama is so bland, same with Shoma an the others. I miss characters like Yuzu or even Dai. In the women's as much as I like Kaori I am bored by her, too. The new skaters aren't exciting either. Wakaba is not back to her previous shape. Maybe Kaori will become 3x World champion like Mao but she will never come close to her popularity. Same in the men's field, no one will be a new Yuzuru.

I dont really get the excitement of the Russians coming back "for the story". Whoever they send in pairs will win euros and worlds and bring them 3 spots again to absolutely dominate. Petrosian would also win against Kaori with no problem even if she falls on a quad. They have some terrible men who can land some quads and be consistent top 10-top 5 subjecting us to have to watch them often. The judges will give them scores exactly like before and no one especially not Eteri will face any backlash. I don't find that particularly exciting prospect. 🥱

If Petrosyan is their only hope it looks bad. She is not that strong or consistent and she is 140 cm tall and underrotate most of her quads already. When she grow up a little in the next months it will be over for her.

Sofia Muravieva has a 3A while Ksenia Sinitsina has good skating skills, solid triples, and nice presentation; they would score well internationally. Top 6 women at the RU nationals showed decent quality overall. May not be sufficient to beat Kaori Sakamoto, but would be competitive with other skaters. The women at the Japanese nationals were not that impressive as a group, especially relative to the men's competition.

I agree that Muravieva and Sinitsyna would score well internationally because they have good quality overall. Also, the Russian girl who will be sent at Worlds (if the Russians will be back) can get 3 spots for the following year getting gold or silver. So, they don't have to beat Kaori.
