I think that one of the most important details is that during the grip fighting Jordan is frequently "climbing" up the back. If you go from the seated back take position and then just fall on your side (which is how a lot of positional rolling drills start) your head will be almost level with theirs, your chin will sit on their shoulder. But if you look at Jordan's position during the arm traps and finishes, he has a much higher body position where his chin would almost sit on the top of his opponents head, he then crunches up to lower his head and hide the choking hand. This higher hip position is what allows him (with short legs) to be able to trap the arm so easily. I say this because as someone also with short legs, I had a very difficult time trapping arms until I started climbing up the back and getting to a similar hip and chest position as Jordan has here.
@forthetress9501
@forthetress9501 11 месяцев назад
Thanks for pointing that out.
@MaxLohMusic
@MaxLohMusic 9 месяцев назад
I can frequently trap arms but am rarely able to finish it before they wiggle it back out. I hope the variation of crossing the feet instead of putting it behind their back might do the trick for me
@spicyjuice1968
@spicyjuice1968 2 месяца назад
Also wanted to add this, this is the key position before moving to other positions, since this will be a huge advantage. Typically, if we position higher on the back, it will be easier to do various submission ie. rear naked choke, armbar, half-armbar etc. It's always better to work on the "higher" back position even before getting into the strait jacket and all of that hand battles.

Great timing! I always really love hearing those 2 videos have been valuable. Especially the dog fight video as it took forever to make and did poorly view wise at first, but has since picked up more steam. I'll be making a back entry video real soon too!

man...absolutely, I had a similar thought. the dogfight video was amazing and I am using almost all of it in my rolls very consistently. And my finishes from the back need some deliberate love and attention to detail!

Thanks so much for explaining why crossing the feet is okay above the hips as opposed to below the hips. I've always only heard that I wasn't supposed to cross my feet when I had my opponent's back because of the potential ankle lock.
@steve5fdp
@steve5fdp 5 месяцев назад
Same here and I am a smaller dude so body triangle or body locks are not in the cards for me most of the time. Now I can cross my feet as long as they're above my opponents or to the side. Atleast from what I gathered in the video, thanks Jordan!

👊 Love the straitjacket. Something I started to do against bigger guys or even just physically stronger opponents who can still fight my choking hand with one arm is lock a gable grip with my non choking hand behind their shoulder and "tighten the noose" with that variation, crushing their fingers, then slide my non choking hand back up for the figure four. Definitely something I was missing in my RNC if my timing is a little off for shooting my hand through. Nice!

Hey Jordan, I really enjoy your content as it gives insights into the thoughts of a black belt in a pleasant and very professional way. Thank you! I would love to see videos or a series that teach "what you need to know about Under Back/Under Side Control/..." - the most important things to pay attention to being in these positions. In general, I would be happy to see a bit more defensive content, as this is what beginners need when they start training. A huge fan of your work.

To trap the arm from the over side, if you cannot push their hand down with your arm alone, you can also grab your own foot with your hand and use the extra power from the leg to isolate their top arm. This arm ends up in their back and can sometimes be attacked with a hammerlock submission.
