Do you think this may work for you (no matter if you are senior golfer or not this can be great) and have you tried the feel even without hitting a ball ? Let me know if any questions:.. think of it as a very modified Matt Wolf lol ( the swing feels have 1 similarity to what Leadbetter’s coined the A swing but I want you to have much for flow). www.theartofsimplegolf.com/free
Can’t wait to try this Alex! I’m a pretty athletic 60 yo who decided to get back into golf after dropping the game fifteen years ago. Looking for a simple short backswing that will allow me to get out with friends and enjoy an occasional round without embarrassing myself or losing a dozen balls every time. Your simplified technique is exactly what I was looking for!
@@naomelembro421 excellent and welcome back to this stupid game lol! If you like this then you will love the complete program we have over on the website called the short swing maximizer. As and when you’re ready ;) Don’t forget short game either;)
Thank you Alex. I'm 75 years young. I've recently returned to the game after a 10 year+ absence. Took a couple of lessons. However, the past year has been a exercise in futility. Almost made it not worth playing. Then I discovered your site. Went to the driving range this weekend to try it. OMG! What a joy to hit a bucket with such ease and consistency. Will be playing a round tomorrow. Hoping for improved results. Thanks again.
Well this is wonderful to hear and exactly why we put out lessons and videos on the things we do... Keep at it and i'm sure we have plenty to keep you advancing. Keep at it and enjoy!
Thanks for this video! I am now retired and starting to play again after 12 years of not playing, I am really struggling with my swing, And I think it is because I try to Overpower the ball, Swing too hard, ( because I am getting older). I am working on this now. And for the thumbs down counts, WHY? The instructor is trying to help people who have physical limits, If it even helps one person to enjoy to play golf (hopefully me) then is it worth it? Yes! If it is not for you then move along to some power hitting videos, When you get older and/ or have limits, You may be back to watch this again... Enjoy the game! And stay safe.
LITERALLY SEEN ALL YOU TUBE VIDEOS - REPEATEDLY. Played golf 35 years and always struggled with consistency of tee shots. Today played 18 holes and after I started doing this on my drives… took a few holes to acclimate to this … used this technique only for tee shots. Slightly leery and hesitant at first. After I got used to it after 3 or 4 holes, I split EVERY fairway on the back 9 … right down the fairway 280 each time, directly in the sweet spot on the face of the club and either hit it dead straight or with a slight draw. I can’t wait to try again and will probably implement on iron shots which should be easier because those clubs are shorter. I COULD NOT BELIEVE THE ACCURACY THAT I GAINED WITH THIS TECHNIQUE. Split the fairway every single time. NEVER HAVE I EXPERIENCED ANYTHING LIKE IT. Saw your video once, and didn’t even go to range to practice-it was very natural and intuitive. IT WAS THE ART OF SIMPLE GOLF. It’s nice when this stuff is simplified. I AGREE ENTIRELY, people teach positions and not FEELS. THAT TECHNIQUE IS BETTER THAN ANYTHING THERE IS OUT OF ALL THE RU-vid GOLF VIDEOS. ITS ABSOLUTE GOLD!!!! Thank you very very much Alex!!! Dave MacDonald
We;ll this has made me so happy to read this!!! Very well done ! keep us postec and yes, take a little time to ingrain and test with all clubs etc Much appreciate the kind words but I am very happy to hear yet another success story with this method.
Fantastic instruction Golf simplied Been playing all my life and still not getting desired results. I hit a fair amount of really good, even great shots - but, nonetheless, there’s not much consistency in my game after 35 years of play. GOLF SWING IS ABOUT FEEL. I’ll try this as I think it’s a fantastic approach. It introduces proper feel. Playing tomorrow and I’ll introduce to my game with practice at the range. On first impression, believe it to be a wonderful idea. Thanks for the simplification and the feel of a proper golf swing. Great stuff!!!
Thank you so much Alex. I'm Belgian, I'm 68 and back to golf after a 10-year stop playing. I have a lot of lower back pain going back to golf. I think your simplified swing will help me a lot. I'll keep you posted. Regards,Michèle
I will try this for sure. I picked up you simple senior system. At 1st I was disappointed as I was looking for more specific drills. I watched the whole series 2 more time and have been recommending this to all my friends.
Thank you Alex. Just recovering from hernia op & looking for less stressful action. This is gold! So easy and potentially very powerful. Seen so much swing advice over my 50 years in golf. This is a true classic. Thank you! 🏌️♀️
I gave this a try today. I have had back issues for several years now and quite discouraged. I’ve had more or less a ltraditional backswing, and it was just too much rotation and hurting. I gave this a try, which is so opposite of what I’ve learned. And wow, my back didn’t hurt and I hit the ball rather well. I’m still able to maintain a six handicap but I’m not a kid anymore either and my back has been bothering me for years. I really think I’m going to give this an honest effort.
I'm 60 in a couple of weeks and this technique has filled me with confidence. A couple of years ago I had the magic I had exactly what you are explaining, however it only lasted a few weeks because I kept trying to keep up with big hitters with low handicap's and trying to hard. Having watched this I realised what I was doing made sense. This has filled me with confidence thank you.
Excellent! Know your game and tempo and focus on solid contact. That’s going to get the distance for most part... then the odd one you can get comfortable at stepping on it as it were
I am a senior golfer with decent flexibibity who never had proper rotation in my swing. I have been working on this for a couple of years and do rotate now. However, I am herky jerky. I have tried this approach along with your video on "How to hit a golf club better with this miracle drill. Both are really working well. I will try it on vacation in a few weeks in Florida. Love AOSG approach so far.
I am 66 years old and in the last 2 years have gone from a 10 handicap to a 13 due to aches, pains, stiffness and a elbow replacement last December. Struggling with consistency with driver and irons along with loss of distance. I watched this and few of your other videos on the short backswing. I started playing with it a week ago with immediate improvement. 5 to 6 shot improvement in each of my last three 18 hole rounds. It seriously works thank you Alex.
Wonderful well done! Very glad to hear you are on the right road. We have a complete short swing maximizer program available too when you are ready. Keep at it!
Alex it has helped alot. I have a rehabbed left lead shoulder by way of z rotater cuff tear to a dysfunctional SI joint on my right side and to make things very challenging im battling bladder cancer. So I am now swinging easy like the 2nd. Coming of Fred couples.
Thanks for the sub! I'm sorry to be so late in responding.. sometimes they get lost as get hundreds a day:( Anyway, thank you. Very much and hope others we have help too
I am 65 years of age and have been looking for away to hit the ball more consistently, this seem like a method that would help me be more consistent so will let you know how I get on. Many thanks .
Love it! This is exactly how I feel when I'm in the "groove" outside to in, club drops automatically and I'm on target. My bad habit is thinking I need a big backswing for speed and distance.
Great site and advice. Years ago, when I lived in Houston, a guy I knew took some lessons from the great Doug Sanders at Memorial Park. This is very much what "Mr Dougie" taught him. Pretty nice endorsement of your teaching.
Alex says this is very simple...just got back from driving range and I will tell you, IT IS SIMPLE AND EASY! It worked for me on driving range, now; will try to carry same concept to the course. Worked as well with driver and five metal and hybrid (don't carry 3 metal). Something else I noticed, keeps your hands in front of sternum. Really pretty KOOL! Thanks
I tried that swing today really liked it I have a tendency to whip the club inside and have been battleing the shanks that swing really seemed to help thanks!
Terrific concept for the senior with some flexibility issues. Seems also that this approach puts a lot of emphasis on patience and tempo. Kind of a way to get some tempo without trying to concentrate on it. Thanks for the ongoing great instruction.
Yes!! I feel like I want to swing like this and I've messed about with this a bit after seeing Matt Wolff and as you say it makes the shallowing move easier to feel. But as I thought it was bad technique I've tried not to do it too much and really only did it as play around after practise but after seeing this I'll be giving it a more serious go. I'm not exactly old but my backs pretty wrecked so lookin for a more effortless swing.
I'm a six handicap. I even tried this in order to gain a little more rhythm and smoothness in my swing, which would improve timing. It's a great swing thought and great fundamentals to go behind the thought. It actually works wonderfully if you are trying to slow your swing down and be more consistent!
Glad I saw this as its a good reminder of what I was working on several months ago. It does help with irons but not as much with the driver. Seems to encourage a big slice with it.
It will be down to set up and to clear body out the way through impact etc. if that’s a little tricky to do every time.. open stance a bit. A new video is coming out on this
Thanks Alex!! I found this great ….I have herniated discs and pains in my right leg …and at the same time starting to play golf at 50!….after struggling the first few weeks to hit the ball consistently, a lot connected with my back “resisting” to strong movements & rotations (although I am in quite good physical condition). I just tried this short swing in my garden and I found amazing how I began to hit the ball far much better and not topping so much as I use to (80% of the time at least). Can’t wait to try it at the driving this weekend! . I will definitely explore more of your videos to try to find solutions to make my game easier. Regards from Argentina!
@@TheArtofSimpleGolf Thanks Alex! Quick question…..which of all the courses at theartofsimplegolf.com you would recommend I take, considering I’m jus starting with golf and would like to develop and easy to replicate swing. Thanks and Regards
Happy to help! I'm sorry to be so late in responding.. sometimes they get lost as get hundreds a day:( Anyway, thank you. Very much and hope others we have help too
I am a big proponent of this method. Golf is a game of opposites because that’s how physics works. This is something I have used for my short irons and wedges, but maybe I should use it for my longer game too.
can you show a short driver swing like this... this has helped my iron play with little loss of distance... I have chronic shoulder issues in both shoulders and this swing has helped me a ton... Swinging about up to the hip is about my range of motion... You instruction is simple and improves ball striking a ton... THANKS
Well that is great to hear and well done for getting there! I will do a driver on this. It’s also why we released the short swing maximizer program that covers driving too
I am 50, and with this technique now I can hit most of my club easier, further and straighter.... you are my 😇, thank you so much... greeting from Indonesia 🇮🇩
I did this by accident on the range. With 8 iron after hitting errant shots I then started chipping with same club. Made a few perfect chip shots then started going full power with same motion a dozen range balls 140-150 yds within a 20 foot circle all the while a 25 mph cross wind. Balls never got offline. Never walked away from a range session so happy.
Short backswing? ... Have you watched Matt Kuchar in this week’s match play? Not only is it short, he only gets it about waist high (doesn’t even get the club above his shoulder line) 😳
@@TheArtofSimpleGolf I will - I'm pretty desperate - I Iive in a golf community and I'm a little tired of being the guy you don't want on your Texas Scramble team 😂
Thanks Alex, an interesting video. Question. At the beginning of the downswing, the supple wrists seem to alter to allow the shallowing. Am I correct in what I see, the end of the grip pointing momentarily at the ball? Is this getting the swing plane correct? Really enjoy your videos. You’re doing a great many people a great service. Thanks again.
Hi. Just wondering - there seem to be a lot of similarities with Leadbetter’s A-swing. Happy with that. It reinforces what seemed to me to be a great approach, especially for us seniors (71 and counting).
Hi Alex, your instructions help explain Count Yogi's swing. What's your opinion on "hands behind the ball" at address and "up the arrow" on follow-through? CH
I am not familiar with his teaching I’m afraid. Starting takeaway with body and dragging ckub is a great move and releasing with confidence towards intended target is great
Great video following you for a long time now and the game has greatly improved. I’m a little confused. In an earlier video you suggested putting the thumb and first finger only on the club to get the feel works great but the video I just watched you indicated pressure in second and third fingers none in the thumb and first finger. Can u clarify please? I’m seventy years old and you have shaved eight to ten strokes off my game on average thanks
Firstly very well done you for cutting those shots! Glad we were able to guide you :) As for the grip, I think I know which lesson you are referring… Its just a feel/drill to allow flow and easy hinging if one is to restricted and snatch. But the pressure one is correct for most of the time
Going to give this a go; after 2 shoulder surgeries and numerous cortisone injections, I need to either quit golf or find an easier swing to use; did not start golf til retiring and am only 77, but feel older; did get to a 9 hcp but now almost an embarrassing bogey golfer.
Been working hard on my 2 year old swing. It’s not bad but inconsistent. My mind is filled with swing thoughts and this 67yo body feels broken after a round. I like this and get it, will be hitting around the backyard to see how to do it and playing a round later to see if I can do it. Thanks!
Played a round, did a range session and a backyard session - verdict is that this has really helped me. The key is getting all those swing thoughts out of my head and just thinking about 2 or 3 things. Supple wrists with firm intent, backswing to the easiest vertical position I can manage and then hitting the ball where I’m staring. All the rotation stuff and arm extension stuff is left behind. I just slowly pull up into that vertical position (or whatever actually happens) and then just hit it. Had an excellent front 9, and encouraging back yard session then the best basket of balls I’ve ever hit. Focused only on proper setup, supple wrists with firm intent, backswing to the vertical and hit it. Worked not only on the irons but on my woods and the driver! Wow. I’m pretty excited about going forward with this. The cool part is that I’ve slowed everything way down and found that my distance was as good as my best previous efforts but definitely more consistent and EASY!
A 2nd reply to myself - What a week. This video gave me a breakthrough I've been looking for. I played several rounds and hit a few buckets. For 4 days I had the most consistent iron, driver and wood swings I've ever had. Then on the 5th day it all fell apart. I lost it, started hitting heavy, topping, slicing, the occasional hook, etc. At the 10th hole I told the rest of my 4-some that I was calling it a day. Exhaustion perhaps? Started to chalk it up to, "it's a tough game". I was afraid to dive back into the videos - AOSG, Maude's, or anyone elses. What happened? Well I was lucky enough to dial up the AOSG No More Over the Top video. I guess it is the latest release. I got no further than the wrist hinge discussion and said "That's It"! I had gone back to some bad habits without really thinking about them. Hit the back yard again and worked on the wrist hinging and the breakthrough was back in effect. Just came back this evening from a sessions and hit 14 of 15 pitching wedge shots straight, high, and in line with the target. Real nice distance grouping too. All of this out of the rough of my backyard. I've NEVER been able to hit more than 2 of 3 iron shots on the mark.. Thanks for a MAJOR BREALKTHROUGH MOMENT for this senior, 2.5 year golfer. I'm sure the foundation was laid by lessons with local pros and various videos but this video along with the wrist hinging segment has changed my game for the better. A quantum leap forward. Breaking 100 here I come!
I am so happy to hear this and your feedback. That's the goal for sure. Bill I am so sorry for late reply! with hundreds daily, some get lost. I hope other tips we provide have assisted your game too. Thanks so much and keep at it
@@TheArtofSimpleGolf Update: The transformation I was experiencing watching your RU-vid vids encouraged me to sign up for your AOSG package. There I found the content (not the same videos) organized integrated into some more comprehensive lessons. I continued to make progress and most interestingly am having to reset my club distances by adding 10 yards. All good. Then I finally did the ‘Senior Swing’ series you did with Shawn. That put all the ‘feels’ together into a single ‘system’ and I totally get it. And it totally works for this senior golfer, at least on the range; high, long, mostly on target iron shots. Now I’m working on locking it in so I can do it consistently on the course. In the mean time my driver swing fell apart and I was trying to figure out how to apply the system to the driver. I think I”m just about there. If any viewers of Alex’s RU-vid videos like the approach, you really should sign up for his site and do all the sections there. It’s worth it. In particular Alex and Shawn Senior Swing series is bringing it all together nicely for this golfer. Thanks Alex!
Still working on it and I feel the right elbow tends to be point away slightly from the right side of the torso. By doing this, the right hand on the grip feels slightly cupped and allows me to get in that vertical shaft position and gives me a good feel for the club head. Does this sound right?
I think I know what you mean. Yes. Sometimes and often it’s feel vs real. Test it. Just be sure you still externally rotate your trail arm. Otherwise can get stuck, flared trail arm and across the line near top of backswing
I've been working on this same concept for the past 6 weeks and have been amazed at how well it works. Erika Larkin's (and John Dahl's videos carry a similar concept and what you're doing here is what developed naturally with me. The club just seems to find its way back and to the ball as you keep the wrists supple and let the club find its path. The ball flies with a beautiful tight draw and holds the target so well. Now I'm working on it with the 3 wood and driver. What results have you gotten using this concept with those clubs? Thanks! Dennis
Hi! It's just as effective with the longer sticks.. it's about set up and intent. Thing is, more solid hits really help distance etc too.. with less effort! Not sure of those folks btw, but will check it out! Cheers
This does feel so simple and uncomplicated. As a beginner I am struggling with getting anything close to a repeatable swing. Is this a good swing / place to start or will it limit me later on if I haven’t learned a fuller swing?
this seams simple when I practise in doors without a ball. But will I be able to take a divit in front of the ball with this swing? I need to see a viideo on hitting the ground after the ball. I like the feel of this swing it feels nice and free.
We have several on that. Release your arms extended after impact feel. Also practice with a tee peg 2 inch in ground in front of ball and get that after impact.
I’ve been trying to nail a swing like this and I think it will be good for me long term. It’s very David Leadbetter in terms of getting the shaft steep. I’m sure it will come with practice but at the moment I’m hitting near the heel, possibly because I get the backswing nicely but don’t swing left coming down??
Absolutely. I think you need to feel more shallow and space as you come into the ball. Feel like belt buckle is pointing down as you move down. our recent Video on early extension should help
Thanks Alex. I ordered the Short Swing Maximiser Series about 4 hours ago but have not received any download. I used Paypal payment. Please advise. CH Lim, Singapore
Alex, you are missing the most important issue: movement of the hips and lower part of body. Most of us duffers are not moving our lower body and just trying to hit with our arms. This leads to over the top and the dreaded banana shot. Please focus only on the lower body movement. This is the key, how and when to move the feet, legs and hips.
I'm sorry to be so late in responding.. sometimes they get lost as get hundreds a day:( Anyway, thanks for feedback.. and in many other lessons on here we cover that.. even one 2 days ago to get through. But not all are physically able to do so you see.
