Thank you for this! With the exception of Jaco, (maybe Gary Willis, too) there are not many lessons on bassists' stylings and techniques discussing what makes players sound like they do. Matt is definitely one of my favorites. As well known as he is, I still feel he is overlooked and underrated for his contribution to the voice of modern bass.

I love the melodicism in your playing. Only a small # of players I've heard really sing through the bass: Jaco, of course. Jeff Berlin. You. Interesting to hear about your teacher. I've heard him play on those records but didn't know his name. Thx

It may be the simplest, most insignificant thing, but the way you use even your breath to get the gist of that rhythm...I'm really impressed. THIS is being musical. Thank you for this unexpected 6 min masterclass on BEING the music.

My first jazz concert in vienna back when I was 18 was Pharoah Sanders. Matt played bass. It was mindblowing. That live album is my favourite album of Matt. ❤
