If you are using the AGM to power a 12V fridge, you should add an output voltage regulator. You can get one for $20-30 on Amazon. The compressors in the DC fridges are very sensitive to voltage changes, and the voltage output curve on an AGM will start going down when you are still at 80% capacity. A 12V regulated output will make your compressor last much longer.
@@TheFraziers this is the yype of device. Search "12V output regulated" and you will find dozens of them. Make sure you get one rated for the output current yoiur fridge requires.
Thanks for mentioning this. I set up an AGM 100AH battery to run an ICECO fridge and the fridge only runs for a few minutes before it shuts down with a low voltage error even though the battery reads 12.7V. This output regulator must be what I'm missing. Does yours work ok without it @TheFraziers?
It did really well every time we used it. No reliability issues. We did upgrade to a lithium battery, but only for the weight reduction and additional capacity. The AGM is still a great option at a good price.
The problem Ive run into is an inverter alarm will go off at around 10 volts , the car battery has plenty of amps but runs short of volts , the jackery must have far more than 12 volts internally to supply 12 volts for days ?? idk I'm not an electrician.
im about to start overlanding on weekends and im trying to figure out how long a battery like that would power one of those fridges without solar? i have no idea what the math is. any idea? thank you
Hi. I'm sure there's a very obvious and simple answer for this, but I don't understand: Where do you plug stuff IN with this rig (other than using USB outlets on the charge controller)? Where do you plug in a DC fridge or an AC plug for a Macbook for instance? Thanks.
You’ll need to add attachments. A dc fridge will need a little dc cigarette lighter plug and wire it directly to the battery. A laptop would need an inverter. Easy stuff to find on eBay.
@@TheFraziers Thanks for the timely response. A bit more research bouncing off what you wrote, and I see that I can probably use an inverter for both the laptop and a dc fridge (using the cig lighter input on the inverter). Great!
@@TheFraziers While I get that knee jerk reaction, the long term numbers are WAY in favor of lithium. Plus, you actually get to USE more than half that advertised "capacity".
I understand the difference for sure but I spent hours researching and considering the options. But at the end of the day, our budget for upgrades like this is directly linked to how much revenue comes in from the channel. In this case, we had about $250 for a battery setup, not $800, hence AGM was our best bet. I would have loved to have lithium but there just wasn’t money laying around for it.
