It seems like every time you start grooming Honey, Mildred and Jesse come up to wait their turn! Mildred is always so patient. Such a sweetheart! That was quite the dramatic birthing with Curtis being breech. Took him a good while to get those front leg tendons stretched out to be able to stand. TRIPLETS! What a haul for Fiji. She was so good and I’m sure she appreciated your midwifery skills, you definitely saved Curtis. Would be hard for me to leave them that first night! Great job Cog Hill Farm! Beautiful babies! 😻

Mildred was a lot smaller back then. She was so patient with baby goat jumping all over her. I'm sure she will be a great aunt to the new babies as well.

I learned from a very old cattle and goat person that when they can’t breath because of mucus …let centrifugal force to pull mucus out….take back legs …and…swing in circle whirl around….im 80 so this is a very old method….i saved many a calf and a few baby sheep that way

Swinging works for newborn kittens, too. I had to do it a couple times years ago when I had a cattery ( persians).

There are so many great channels with a List, for putting together a ''Birthing Kit''. Websites also for Lists. > Sage and Stone Homestead > Blue Cactus dairy goats > Weed'em and Weep..... etc. Everything you need....just in case something like this happens again. The bulbs are used all the time. Less stressful.

Wow one exciting day at Cog hill.. weed n and weep she uses a bulb extactor to get the musus out. Like you use on babies. And she gives the Mom molasses water. They are adorable..

Mildred always reminds me of the cow that represented Borden's Dairy--her name was ELSIE. She had long eyelashes, a necklace of flowers, and earrings. Mildred seems as gentle and charismatic as Elsie!

Those three babies are the most precious little ones of the day. Fifi says she's an old pro at this. Just wonderful surprise for the morning, well when we are seeing the video. Good morning Jason and Brooke. What an amazing experience. My stepdad had one of those bulbs that you use on babies to suck mucus out when the baby has a cold. He told me that often when a animal is breach that they have a bowl movement and the baby can inhale it. He said "you always have to be ready for anything." Jason and Brooke you did a wonderful job handling the situation. I'm so glad you were there when the birthing started. Glad to see all babies nursing. It's going to be exciting watching them grow up on the farm. Thank you for sharing. Much love from our family to your family 💞

Do you guys use Nutri-drench on momma and the kids after birthing? We use it after every birth. It give the babies and momma a extra boost of vitamins for energy. We also dip the kids umbilical cords in iodine to kill bacteria and help dry it out and heal quicker. Her kids are adorable! Good job momma!

That is amazing. Hope all the baby goats are doing okay. It took me 45 minutes of CPR to save a kitten that was born in my cellar years ago. My mom had left after a few minutes of me trying to save him, because she thought he was dead. But He lived! I would not give up! She called a few hours later, I told her he was doing great. she came back to see him, and could not believe it! Then a vet made a mistake on 2 separate occasions with a medication he could not have, and she gave it to him twice. $10 k later of trying to save him in a few different emergency hospitals and I think the woman that syringed fed him, fed him wrong or too fast and he died, right when I got there. Needless to say I am still upset about it. that happened in 2007! Sorry for the mini-book!

Fifi will be a great mama. The babies are so cute. Breach births can be hard on the baby vet hanging it upside down and swinging it back and forth can clear out the mucus and a piece of hay into a nostril can make the baby sneeze clearing the airway and getting baby more active. You all did great!!

When a baby animal or human for that matter is breach, the umbilical cord is severed before the baby comes out causing it to take it's first breath. This results in breathing in lungs full of amniotic fluid. Just holding a lamb or kid upside down does not expel all the mucous, you need to swing it by the back legs thus forcing the fluid out. Putting a piece of straw up the nose will cause the baby to sneeze a lot of what is left out. A farm that I watch in the UK has a goat called Winnie who was pregnant with six kids, Unfortunately one was still born but she still has five babies and they are all still with momma, she is feeding four of them and the other one has an overbite and is unable to latch on to the nipple, but is taking a bottle very nicely. Love you guys.
