Every now and then you run across a knife that tells of it's life. This Camillus Barlow pocket knife had a life well spent. There is a story behind this knife and the person who used it. Clearly it was used and sharpened every day and helped with a lot of work.

Great knife. I love Barlows. A knife like that has been touched by a lot of people. But more so, those knives have touched people. It was someone’s work knife. In someone’s pockets every day. I have several of those worn out knives. That blade thang is likely fine as the steel is harder than the spring. The spring is actually dished out . Great video.

Yeah. I bought an Imperial Florida jack knife from a woman on Swedish ebay. Turns out she was working at a farm in i think Idaho or something back in the early 80's. When she was young. And the farmer she worked for gave her that knife when she was going back to Sweden again. Niw i think she is dead. She told me she had terminal cancer. ... About a year ago .. That knife is a keeper

Somewhere around five years ago I did a quick run to the store and when I got back all of my tools were gone. I vomited in the kitchen sink the moment I realized that my eyes were telling me the truth. I was heartbroken to have my $50,000ish (give or take a few K) worth of very hard to find antique tools stolen. A lot of people would consider them safe queens, but those tools were made to work and I put 'em to work. They performed beautifully. Here's the ridiculous part - Sometime in the early 1970's we were driving through Death Valley and my mom pulled over so we could stretch our legs. We parked next to a tractor trailer and I ran over to see if I was at least as tall as one of the tractor's wheels standing on the tips of my toes yet and I wasn't even close. One of my big sisters laughed at me and I started to cry. The driver of the truck walked over to me, picked up this perfectly smooth black rock that was flat with rounded edges and almost the exact size of a quarter placed on top of it. He looked at it with amazement and said that it was the finest worry stone he'd ever seen and there is a reason why I stopped to cry over it. He showed me how to rub it between the thumb and forefinger and said sometimes it'll take a few minutes, but that stone will always take my worries away if I let it. I've had stone for coming close to 50 years now. When I realized that I was robbed I was horrified to think that quarter sized piece of worthless black rock was gone forever. I found it on the floor a few minutes later because there isn't a thief on the planet that would lift a finger to steal a worthless rock. Sorry for writing a novel here, but I felt like it was a story worth telling.

Thanks for sharing your story. It must have been heart-wrenching to have such a valuable collection of tools stolen. Glad you found the worry stone, though! Thank you for watching and commenting!

I agree and like my grandpa and dad's generation they made a knife last 40 yrs and didn't get another till blades were gone or broke and I think that's neat

Also it's amazing how our dads generation all they needed was a simple 2 blade barlow like that cammilus and made it last for probly 30 40 yrs and actually used and sharpened it.

I don't think it's bad that some people can't use their hands like others. I'm one of them. I call to have most things repaired if it is really complicated. I do have a Masters degree, retired from the military after 20 years, and retired as a police officer after 20 years. People like me made it possible for people like you to make a living. People like me kept you safe to do it. Just food for thought.

Great video. 😊 We need to use our stuff and make memories with it. I feel the same about well used but not abused old guitars.
