Well... It is still better than a non included feature that you can't unlock after the purchase... Imagine having some sensors on your car and you can unlock them if you feel like you'll like them when you have the money to unlock them. Still... 250 for an animation... That sucks...
Yeah, always tried making my own lounge mode on Tesla model S. On long drives, it's nice to get some shut eye whilst charging. Kia is awesome now. I wonder if that's Ashley Schaeffer's doing or not.
Huge is an understatement. I've seen it in person. It isn't two Hummers strapped together but I would not want to be a pedestrian in front of these things.
bought my daughter a 2018 KIA Forte in 2019 (her first car while in High School). The single worst purchase I've ever made - it hasn't been stolen or burst into flames [yet] but our insurance premiums in Illinois are more reflective of a luxury sedan than an economy vehicle. Someone please start up a second class action lawsuit to address both Hyundai/KIA negligence on behalf of ALL owners irregardless of theft, fire, etc. Owner insurance premiums totaling nearly twice the cost they should be isn't fair. They shouldn't be allowed to sell vehicles in the U.S. until this is addressed.
@@tocreatee5736 ya done goofed. First off, why is this a reply to a totally unrelated comment. Secondly, Kia and Hyundai DID get sued, all of this has been going on for years, and I own a 2023 Kia Soul that has lower insurance premium than most cars.
4:50 you want lounge mode for the 24 minutes you're stopped charging from 10% to 80%. or longer if you're at an electrify america spot and 3 of the 4 chargers are either broken or limited to dispensing 35 kw of juice.
Genuine question, if you have any in your area what do you think of the Shell Recharge chargers? I'm a software engineer on one of the Shell Recharge teams and we're doing a ton of work to try and improve charger uptime. There's still tons of work to do so my expectation is that the charger experience still isn't great, but my hopes are high :)
I mean.. Can you tell us what your charger uptime is like right now? I think you're fighting against 96%+ uptime on the superchargers. And even EA seems to be getting better. I'm personally definitely looking forward to having reliable, interconnected networks across the country providing options to drivers. Probably can't tell us, but wondering if and when there will be a switch to NACS. Also wondering if anyone will bite the bullet and create a unified app experience that can combine station information (charger status, open stalls, cars en route, etc) from multiple brands into one, to rival the SC network. Shell, I imagine, isn't planning extreme solo expansion and might well benefit from just such a thing.
I've seen one in The Netherlands and it just doesn't fit. Way too large and poor vision on cyclists. Also it guzzles power compared to my chonker ioniq 5. I really wish cars would shrink down again. It would help both efficiency and safety
Cars with DLC is absolute nonsense, especially when the hardware for the feature(s) is IN the car already. If they want to sell a version that has the hardware removed, and costs like $30K less, then sure.. but to nickel and dime people for basic-ass features on a car that already costs more money than most people will imagine having at a given time.. should be a crime.
It should be illegal to sell cars this unnecessarily big and heavy. Thank you for being the first person on RU-vid to acknowledge that cd is a COEFFICIENT, as there are plenty of idiots that think a Tesla model X is more aerodynamic than an mazda MX5 just because it's cd is lower
They have to sell a lot of the profitable cars (SUVs) before they can design the less profitable ones. The electric sedans currently available in North America consist of the Ioniq 6, Polestar 2, BMW i4, BMW i5, and Mercedes EQE
Or a nice stationwagon. I don't want a landyacht, and I don't need 24 seats. But it would be really nice if I could fit a sheet of 4x8 OSB with the rear (60/40) seats folded down. And to be able to fit in a regular EU-sized parking space without having to be a 40kg thin contortionist to get in or out, yeah that would be really great too.
My KIA cars engine stalled after the dealership did an engine consumption test. The crank shaft broke and now they won’t honor their warranty even though my car is still under warranty. I drove the car only 30 miles after the oil consumption test and the engine blew up. I’m so disappointed in KIA they don’t care
Would be better as a car. I find it crazy these SUVs have less interior room than my Forte. "Being an EV, it had to do something that wouldn't work after a night of freezing rain" Also microtransactions? Really? And I was a fan of Kia until that moment.
When the battery technology advances. Until then look at a Hyundai Kona EV 2023 (not 2024) if you are looking for a compact EV with a nice range and very fun engine.
I have an everest 7 seater SUV and its fantastic, can just use a roof box etc if taking heaps of people or can Use it as a stationwagon style for room.
Americans imagine themselves needing ground clearance for their rugged lifestyles, going to and fro the strip mall. And sliding doors are practical, which is emasculating or something.
@@concinnus lmao, well said. No idea why Americans are so obsessed with these big cars when they either drive alone or with 3 people max. Maybe it's an ego thing, like "look mine's bigger!"
Damn, the _"Surround View Monitor w/ 3D View"_ isn't available until the _"Land AWD"_ model. Base is $54k and the Land AWD $70k. Damn. That means you can't get the bench for the back seat and have to use captain chairs.
I don't understand how those handles are going to work in winter. How am I supposed to get into the car to get my scraper when the handles can't come out?
Any vehicle this size and height is inheritantly dangerous and anti-social. Terrible viability, max potential damage, tearing up the tarmac as much as 20 normal cars on the same road (not an exaggeration), can't be seen over by cyclists, just unnecessary. US, the public, should make it socially negative to drive massive lumps like this as the oblivious people that buy them just do not realise the negativity they are spreading to their environment when they drive around other humans
@@blepala Flush door handles are always balls, but at least on the "small" Teslas you can give the handle a bit of whack to break it free. On the big Teslas (S/X) they work just as atrocious in the cold as these will.
@@Killerpixel11Just run the defrost from the app before you leave. It hits them and defrosts. My '21 model 3 has been no issue living in ohio, the car can schedule what time you leave and pre-do it
A car that has microtransactions and door handles that can malfunction, all for $80k. What's not to love about it? Also, I wonder how likely it is that all of that interior plastic will get recycled...
Kia employee here! EV9 is a really hot seller at my dealership we had a pre production model from Korea and it genuinely impressed me. Kia is really coming a long way from where they were
@@cokeiceeeeebidirectional charging is all I'm waiting for before jumping in on an ev. I want to be able to power my house in an emergency and maybe run a cooler in the back. Even better if I can sell electricity back to the grid when I don't need it.
Got ours a few weeks back. Put 1100km on it helping family and friends move about. It is super quiet and surprisingly agile despite the obvious size of the thing. Previously we had a Tesla and the difference in quality is immediately obvious. Recommended!
I have a question for you. I am a windsurfer, and I am the lookout for an EV that can transport my gear without having to strap it to the top. So if I fold both the second and third row of seats down and move the front passenger seat as far forward as possible, about how long is the space? 7 feet? More?
@@gatesurferI'm just guessing here. The back half of the car (up to the pillar) is a little less than half the length of the car. So maybe just a bit over 7 feet. Perhaps if you moved the seat up and got the load a bit diagonal, you might get 8. But 7 seems like a good working floor number.
@@prashank Physics hasn't. Engineering has. We have FEM and CFD now. Material science has improved. Coatings science has improved. This hasn't got anything to do with physics.
Drag coefficient formula must be multiplied by the area of the front of the car to get the actual force. It's a bit misleading and the mercedes would have a much lower drag force.
It's refreshing to see Kia innovating with the ev9. Impressed with the thoughtfulness in the design, not to mention the interior quality and tech features.
That's not a car, that's a SUV. I always laugh at people saying we need to "do our part for the environment", who then get into their 2.5-3 metric ton SUVs and carry *nothing*.
Does the rear brake light turn on when you're in single pedal mode? A lot of cars don't do this since regulators don't require it, but I'm not trying to get rear ended in poor visibility conditions
In the US there is no legislation for it, but EU has pretty strict rules that say that after a certain deceleration rate threshold, brake lights need to come on. If we take Hyundai Ioniq 5 (that is on the same platform) there is a chance that it might not come on in US under certain circumstances unless they changed something in the meantime. Technology Connections made a video about that some time ago.
Getting an IONIQ 6 pretty soon, thanks to you guys, and man I only wish I could have it in this beautiful metallic blue. but everyone knows, red goes faster anyways.
Ooof, imagine getting that inferior piece of junk. Maybe you should step inside a K, backwards-N dealership before you buy it. Because you're gonna regret that the minute you need any sort of service or warranty.
@:02 - Uh what?? You didn't know that a car company that made the Telluride, and a number of other "car of the year" winners over the past decade is capable of this level of thought and care?? Seriously, still getting this level of "oh kia doesn't make crap??" from youtube people who claim to be car reviewers is frankly silly.
Car tech is such trash. Cars don't need alot; go, stop, heat, mileage, and sound. Computers and screens make cars worse, you just added drive tracking that sells data to insurance without your consent or even knowledge, screens are bad, you're driving not doomscrolling and you know the ui is going to be bad, unresponsive, and have a ton of bloat, like no I don't want to use google or apple maps, I'd rather use a 10 years out of date map that Ford licensed off Garmin and wants a subscription for... O.o your seats are motorized, waste much? How damn often are you moving your seats that you can't pull a lever? The only good thing about tech and cars is the backup camera, if you can't backup without one you shouldn't be driving but they are convenient. EV's and Hybrids were a good thing for the first few years, before they became full of data tracking, subscriptions, screens and microtransactions.
What's funny to me is how some of the things that were criticized in past Tesla reviews are excused or glossed over in this video 🤔. Makes me wonder if this is an ad or they just really don't like Tesla because of it's musky CEO 😅.
No, this car is a very average looking car that costs as much as a luxury mark, costs as much to run as a luxury mark and is unaffordable to the average consumer, uses materials that are the byproduct of forced child African labor, work badly in cold weather, dont work in power outages/grid failure, battery servicing costs as much as a brand new non-EV car, yet linus and crew think this is a cool thing! says it all i think about linus and crew!
As soon as you said microtransaction i clicked off. I WILL not allow them to convert the car market. Look at what has happened to mobile gaming, PC gaming and everything post purchase monetisation has touched. Instant no regardless of how good it is.
I find it very funny that these days with computer help they can't get a drag coefficientsy below 0.2 but back before the computer was a tool for car designers they often got down to 0.19 and below Computer's where suppose to make it possible to go lower then the old days not the other way around
When I saw the door handles I thought what would happen if your battery totally died to where you could not unlock it and you had something important in it. If you are not home or near a charger then it could be an issue. Of course I at most need cruise control. This is for others but alas not me. Oh well. Good review though.
I have the.. like simular huyndai car... swiched it from a XC90... and.. well.. it does have some drawbacks. The abs is much worse. Its kind of strange how much worse it is. So is the traction controll. The seats is less comfortable.. and the suspension is also... kind of.. a bit worse. My old xc90 was getting realy old.. and well the huyndai was 25k less. Cant argue with that. Still.. i woulf say.. there is some aditonall value in the volvo.. maybe not 25k.. but possibly 10
@@yangashi He said "usd" not "used". I am assuming you give that lifespan just because they are EVs? If that's the case, you are pretty clueless, many first gen Model Ss and Leafs are still operational, even on original battery packs and those are slowly approaching 12-14 years already. Nevermind improved and dedicated EV batteries found in these cars that will last even longer.
No, it's not "impressive" that they made it boxy. Cars used to have sloped, low front ends for a damned reason - decades of research into making impacts with pedestrians more survivable for the pedestrian ... and companies like this have gone and thrown all that research and development out of the window in favour of flat, high front ends combined with generally taller vehicles that almost guarantee they'll kill you if they hit you due to how high the vehicle will now impact your body. It also massively impedes your ability as the driver to see what's close in front of you for no good reason at all. This latest design trend needs to die, and sooner rather than later. Even the European market has been infected with this dumb American ethos that "bigger, boxier is better" - no, no it isn't. And it doesn't even make sense for electric vehicles because you're just adding more weight and drag for absolutely no good reason whatsoever to something that should be as small and lightweight as possible to get the most efficiency and battery life/range out of the vehicle as possible.
And the dumbest thing of all about vehicles like this and the whole SUV model is that the car is so massive for absolutely zero gain at all. You can't carry more people than an average sized car, and you don't even get any more boot space than an average sized car. There used to be a solution for this - a car with the same number of seats and a MUCH bigger trunk space on top .. it was called the Station Wagon. A modern, electric version of that ( _without_ the dumb flat front-end) would be the absolute perfect car for parents on the school run, people needing a bigger trunk to move things around, the person going camping that needs to store their tents and stuff. But nah, let's all buy oversized SUVs that are way too big, offer zero benefits in return for their size and majorly risk rolling over in an accident.
Those micro transactions on cars is gonna kill a lot of brands especially for something so simple as headlights. that's just plan greedy. Imagine a subscription for a/c and power seats. smh
whilst i do not agree with microtransactions at all for any reason. this is purely cosmetic, its not the actual headlight itself, just some flair on the side, who cares.
Honestly, there is such a niche you guys got here with how you review cars. 👏 almost deserving of a channel.... tech minds and automotive reviewing. Yes. More. Thank you.
It's fun to watch, that's why. Buy 2nd hand cars, I've been driving my $800 Ford Fiesta for 6 years now. Also you can get a house or an apartment in cheaper countries :)
Question: Will the handles manage to slide out if you leave the car out in a freezing snowing winter night or will they freeze thus preventing you to enter the car? And you should test this with every car that uses some stupid electronic crap for the doors instead of a normal mechanism.
