Yeah. Always annoys me beyond measure when people just introduce new animals and then complain about them not getting along. I would be annoyed, too if my girlfriend just brings a new guy to our flat😂😂😂

@@Sssssssslf awe. I’m sure they do!! Just sing and speak love into them 💕 It took a long time for my younger cat to even bond with me I always felt like the third wheel and the outcast and finally they share me. and I get them both lovingly. Remember they are you family and you kin.

We experienced something similar. Our oldest boy, Oreo, was 10 years old when we adopted two kittens from the same litter (Joshua and Caleb). It took a full year and a half for Oreo to fully accept them in every type of situation. Joshua and Caleb were best buds from the start, because they started off as wombmates. 😍 Last summer, when Joshua and Caleb were almost 2 years old, Joshua sneaked out of the house one morning when we were letting the dogs out, and we didn't notice until several hours later. He often would go curl up in some cabinet or nook or cranny in the house and sleep for hours, so we didn't realize he wasn't in the house, at first. It took a full week before he turned up in a neighbor's garage. When we brought him back home, the other two cats hissed at him like he was public enemy number one. They would not stop growling or hissing at him. I pet Joshua and then went over to Oreo and Caleb to pet them. Caleb went nuts and clawed and bit me... which he has NEVER done. So, I figured it was something about how Joshua smelled like the outdoors. We bathed Joshua to try to deal with the scent, and that helped a little bit, but the other two still growled whenever he came near. It took 2 full weeks before they were all friends again and back to normal. Now, we do kitty counts every time we leave the house and every time we bring the dogs outside. Especially since Joshua is still very curious now that the weather is warming up again. We don't trust him not to sneak back out. 🤦‍♀️

Keep at it. My 6 year old took 1.5yrs to get used to the new kitten. I did the slow introduction fed them in opposite ends and moved the bowls closer every day but the older cat would bite and swipe the kitten. Never left them unsupervised. Eventually she accepted the kitten and now they sleep and play together. I would lie if I said it wasn't stressful.

Adult cats often don't appreciate kittens in the household because they're at different energy levels. Kittens constantly wanna play play play and adult cats are often exhausted by this. To the commenter saying it took 1.5 years, that's probably because by then the kitten was more grown up.

I can't relate to the cats but I can relate to the older animal holding their ground lol my older dog hated my younger dog until the day that she died. 4 solid years of hatred. The day she had to be put down, he tried to give her a sniff and say goodbye and she growled at him 😭

Our older cat (Oreo- 10 years old at the time), did NOT like our kittens when we brought them home. We adopted two rescued kittens from the same litter and they have been best buds since the start. Oreo hissed and growled and seemed to never want them coming near him. Over the course of 1.5 years, he very slowly warmed up to them. Eventually, the hissing stopped. Then, one day, he tolerated them snuggling near him on the bed. While that was acceptable to him, they still weren't allowed to approach him while awake. Eventually, he stopped walking away or growling when they came near. The "kittens" are 2 years old now and our Oreo is best buds with one of them (Joshua). He even tries to play with him, although he has a very different play style and Joshua just doesn't understand what the heck he's trying to do. It's funny to watch them. The only problems we still experience is between the other kitten-turned-two-year-old cat (Caleb) and Oreo. They get along, for the most part. Oreo doesn't hate him. However, Caleb has been trying to take down the "giant" kitty (Oreo) since day one and is determined to be in charge... which Oreo just won't tolerate. So, in moments where that young trouble maker decides he's going to stalk the older kitty, we hear the occasional growl, hiss and crash as they duke it out for a few minutes. We intervene when Caleb gets too rough or too far out of line. He does the same thing to Joshua sometimes, too. He's just a brute, but a loveable one. All three of them are neutered, but Caleb still desires to take over the kitty kingdom. He wants to be in charge. 😂 Other than that, they are all buddies these days. We often joke about how it only took a year and a half for Oreo to fully accept them. But, that's cats for you! They have a customary quota of hisses and growls that must be met before they will even deign to allow another kitty within their territory. 😂

@@JBOD thank you! My son thought of Cookie’s name. She was his cat at his dad’s house first. I forgot how we came up with the name Sugar, probably has something to do with her being sweet. Little did we know, she was Beelzebub himself in kitten form lol.

Sorry for your loss!! 17 years sounds like forever but I know it feels like they were just babies a week ago. I bet you spoiled her, and I’m sure she had the best life! My youngest pair are 13 this summer. I’ve had them since they were three months old. I don’t want to imagine life without them. It’s almost like I’m just learning all of their quirks now. I lost my 18 year old male cat last April and it’s still unreal. I hesitate at the thought of getting another once my last cats are gone (I have three, and one is an unknown age, but he was full grown when he adopted us and we’ve had him for 12 years), but I think I’d do it if I saw a cat or kitten in need.

All cats are territorial unless you get them spayed/neutered it stops a lot of that behavior so they don’t take long to come around. At that point it comes down to personality.
