I've been looking at one of these for processing brass but I haven't pulled the trigger yet. It seems like a pretty cool piece of gear to have. Great video as always keepem coming brother!!!
I can't imagine life without lee products. Customer service is great. some of the products are best in class, most are great and a couple require just a little tlc but they are all priced excellent.
I would get at least two, one dedicated to depriming (the dirty press) and one to use for bullet sizing, primer pocket swaging and possibly brass resizing, then get a nice single stage press for bullet seating. If you do a rotary wet tumble with SS pins after deprime, there shouldn't be anything beside lube and gunpowder to get your other presses dirty. That should give you all the benefits of single stage reloading with speed close to a progressive press if you load large enough batches, without the negative of primer residue finding its way into your resizing and bullet seating stages.
I've already got a 550C and Rock Chucker for loading on but this is huge for prep and bullet sizing. That sounds like a great set up if I didn't have those already.
Yes you do! It comes with 3 shell holders that I would have had to purchase(9mm/40sw, 223, and 308/45acp), so there's some added savings in there. You can use the same quick change bench plate set up. The newer bottle design is the same as the powder measures so there's some redundancy there if you need parts or extras. Super handy and you can do every single part of the reloading process with it. JRB loaded 1000 rounds of 223 from start to finish. Very handy and has more uses than are advertised for it.
Cheers for the video, very useful. Also, I believe the 'NT' in 'Federal FC NT' stands for 'Non Toxic'. I too have found those primer pockets a bit of a pain.
if you have access to a 3D printer, make the little thingie off thingieverse to slide down in top of the collator, make the holes smaller and REALLY helps with 9mm going down case feeder the right way, works good👍
Most issues you run into with the APP are related to setup. Once you get used to aligning stuff, it's pretty solid. We use this to decap, size, and flare. Then charge with digital powder dropper and seat/crimp on a turret. All in all, there's no other way to produce rounds that quickly with that consistency in powder charge.
Yessir! Once you get it dialed in it will just keep running. It is definitely the fastest single stage method for prep, swaging, sizing, expanding, bullet sizing, and everything else it was made to do. If I single stage load cartridge I'll get them prepped and primed so all I have to do is drop powder and seat bullets when I'm ready to go👍🇺🇲
Morning! Haven't used it for bullets, yet. Can I use my existing Lee sizer or do I have to get the breech lock/APP set up? Almost done with the 5 gallons of 9mm! Had to get creative with the drawers because I lost the last bit of table top room available when I have the APP mounted. The bench plate is really nice so I can pull it off and have my normal work space back.
@@DummyRound I use the lee die sizer in my APP for a few sizes. Mostly I use the NOE sizer dies. I started before Lee had there lil minis they make now. But I like them. I just posted a video last night on how I sized before either one!
Here's a tip if you're having issues with the crab claws on the case shuttle not opening and closing properly. The rectangle slot on the front side of the shuttle, just to the right of the spring mount, Cut a thin strip of THIN cardboard like from a pack matches or THIN flap from a box top. make the strip wide enuff to fit snug, fold it to length of the height of the slot. Make 2-4 folds as needed to make it fit snug but not too tight. Slide it in from the top, bend the single layer tail over to keep it from falling down in the slot, and cut it short enuff to not catch on the spring. A little trial n error, and you will be amazed at how better the crab claws work. If you take the shuttle off and work it in your hands, you'll see what this shim does.
I have one of the first LEE APP presses the shipped. It works really great. The swage is amazing. I have a electric bullet/brass feeder tak about fast. I have many videos onmy channel with tips and tricks as well. I deprimel pistol brass - 223 - 300 BO have done 30-06 but 30-06 have to feed them by hand.
I definitely watched a few of your videos while doing some research. I'll eventually be doing bullets and sizing more brass once I finish this last bit of 9mm.
@@DummyRound It works great for sizing cast bullets even ZInc bullets - if it is hard to size cast bullets spray them with some lanolin-alcohol will size like butter
This is one of the main things keeping me from doing a lot of loading. I don't have the time to sit for hours and hours reaming a bunch of primer pockets and then cleaning up all the freakin mess. I have looked at these before but everybody seems to just use a reamer the old fashioned way or setup on a drill or prep station so I figured they were no good. This looks like a HUGE time saver. I'm looking at it now. Do I need to also order the swage kit for it or does it come with that? Also I see I need the big red case holder separately and then multi tube feeder adapter. I see two adapters available. is it the one with the extra black plastic piece with it or just the adapter tubes and a couple of screws? Anything else I need or you would suggest? Thank you sir!
It's a huge time saver and I'm kicking myself for not getting one earlier. You'll have to get each piece separately. But, it does come with shell holders for 9mm/40sw, 223/300blk, and 308/45acp so you won't need to purchase any other holders unless you're doing something other than those cases. Deluxe APP Press 90933 Case Feed Collator 90667 Universal Case Feeder 90242 Swage Kit 90237 *Roller Handle-optional(I still need one)91629 *Bench Plate-optional(if you want it removable or to switch to another Lee press)90251 *4 pk Extra Bushings-optional(not necessary if you're only swaging, but useful for your sizing dies) 90095 Midsouth has free shipping over $99 right now and MidwayUSA always has free shipping over $50 for Lee products. That should get you started but let me know if you have any other questions
@@DummyRound Thank you sir. That's exactly the stuff I had in my cart except for the bushings. I added those to it and went ahead and added the deprime kit too. There goes $300😆😆
If you cast your own bullets and powder coat them, the savings is astronomical. It was better when primers were cheap but there is still a buttload of money to be saved. No good if you aren't into another hobby thoug because it does take time but i'll take reloading over dancing with the has been stars any day.
I have been finding a few primers that seem to be "glued" into the brass. All the pieces are Norma 9 MM brass. I broke one pin trying to push out the primer. Range pickup.
The ones that seemed glued in have came from several different head stamps, but I do remember Norma specifically having undersized flash holes, and those were especially hard to size because of that. Lee die punched right through them with no problem.
@@jamespboykin I've heard those are nice. The only time I break a Lee pin is when there's a stainless steel pin stuck in the case from wet tumbling that is somehow impossible to see until I've ruined my decapper. Twice now those have gotten me. I just skip tumbling with the pins now and get the same clean brass without.
I didn't have any issues with that in 9mm from the 5 gallons I ran, but I could imagine it being a problem since the shell holders are so thin. I tried a few 223 cases and gave up after sticking the first 2 🤣
I have no idea but I've seen it from 2 different cartridges and like 20 headstamps between those. This brass was also out of the mud and pretty nasty, so maybe there was some sort of corrosion or something happening?
Generally, no straight wall pistol cases need lube with modern dies. But, if I know I'm going to be tumbling them before loading, I'll sometimes size separately with lube and have them set aside cleaned for whenever I'm going to load👍🇺🇸
@DummyRound. My brass gets stuck in the holder as the Lee die pulls up too hard and the brass begins to tear at the case bottom. Some cases will pull out of the holder and I need to take apart the die to remove.
I've had that happen on rifle cases and gave up after a few stuck. Have you tried with lube? What kind? It will help, a lot, but shouldn't be required. Also, the thin crappy shell holders seem to he hit or miss as to how much material they're actually holding onto.
@@DummyRound On 223 I use lube and it works okay. I haven't tried lube on the 9mm yet, but I will. I think that will solve it. If I use a regular shell holder it's better but still has some issues and I lose the fast processing part.
@@DummyRound Since you were sizing 9mm and they seemed to be coming out spec (fitting into your gauge), I assumed you were also using the setup to debulge the 9mm cases which got me interested. And, you aren't using the Mak die as others do. I contacted LEE to see about the setup. Here is what LEE said, "We do not have a solution for the 9mm bulge!" So, now I'm confused. What are you using on the APP to swage the cases into spec?
i been using this for 2 yrs now, especially for decapping my mil crimp 556. HINT: purchase a mighty armory decapper- no pins will break 1005 garuntee, even punches through boxer . also, if u CALL LEE and take a PICTURE of ur base model, they will send you an upgraded DELUX model for 50 % off!
Depriming and swaging 556 is no issue, but sizing can be problematic as the x press shell holders don't have a lot of meat on the case head. But deprime and swage is cake since it doesn't have to pull back up🇺🇲👍
@DummyRound great to hear, my sizing/decapping all happens on a RCBS with the inline auto ejector. After it's cleaned, it's fed to the 550c. My real slow spot is bulk processing of once fired brass. Gets old quick between trimming and swaging.
My pile of once fired should last me a life time once I actually process it the first time and rotate through it accordingly. I just really hate brass prep 😆 so I've just been doing smaller batches(500-1k) at a time as needed
