It has to do with the current world order. The US has been on top of that world order economically and militarily. Yes, every country has a right to defend itself. There is a reason why the US is considered the world police and invests so much in its military capabilities worldwide. The US is on top, meaning greater political and economic power. It has a vested interest in keeping things the way things are. Ensuring peace not only controls the world order, it allows for economic development and trade that the US can guide and profit from. Its not only the US, but the other wealthy nations. It also relates to the ideology that is followed in the world. China does not follow a Democratic government. It does not venerate individual rights and freedoms that Democracies as institutions are built to do. I would agree that there is argument against the US Democratic institution as well. However, the guiding principals are still in force, where they seem illusory at best in China. The guiding leader of the world matters. While it is beneficial to those in power, it directs the development of other nations around the world as they mimic and adopt best practices in governing - currently Democratic practices. I believe Taiwan follows the same political dogma as the US - Democratic and Capitalist. The US retains its moral authority not through strength alone, but through the support and cultivation of individual rights in other free (Individual rights, Democratic) nations. I admire the ingenuity and adaptation that China has managed in the recent decades. I don't admire their tyranny of government. Taiwan is about more than Taiwan. It likely unlocks the Pacific Ocean for China, which means military and trade power. It is also a battle of ideals on the world stage.
@@combtop As a well informed American I can say you are either extremely naive or a paid troll. We preach democracy but we really only practice tokenism. We have preselected candidates and weed out all those who don't follow the mold. Taiwan is no democracy now nor has it ever been one. Just because you go through the circus of holding election doesn't mean you have any say on what policy takes place. A simple google search and quick read into the state department clearly states in the One China Policy that Taiwan is a part of China, and its up to them to decide with their cross straight relations.
@@combtop do you really think that having only two options placed by corporations to choose from is called democracy? why is so difficult to understand that Chinese citizens don't care about who is in power as long they see how their lives improve every year in contrast to Americans that every day is getting worse. look how Chinese cities look like, how are they connected, and how much services they receive from the government and then compare to Americans and think again about your concept of democracy

If chinese navy ships and aircraft carriers were to patrol the shores of California every week or so, I’m sure the US would become equally armed with missiles.
But those bases have been there for a long time. With the missile tests surrounding Taiwan when Nancy Pelosi visited, those were not aimed at nor for surrounding missile bases, so they aren't for protection like you imply they are.
Yes, preventing china from achieving their national security goals and from feeling safe. It would be the same if China put missiles, spy equipment, missile shields and had massive military bases in Canada, Mexico, Cuba, etc. USA would cry and destroy those countries long ago. Oh wait they already did that when Soviets just mentioned the idea back in the cuban missile crisis.
why do you think? duuuhhh US been messing around the world. poking every countries problems.... keep feeding wars here and there...u want more reasons?
You may not know about the military, but China is the world leader in missile interception. In addition, this is a question you should ask the United States why it dares to pull its military forces out of the distance of the Pacific Ocean to station in front of the Chinese base camp.😅😅
And Nato, an alliance against Russia, has encircled Russia nowadays and dares to say, that Russia wasn't provoked and that Nato isn't an threat. Nato isn't an threat, as long as u r an Nato member yourself.
Maybe Russia shouldn't have invaded half of its neighbors. You don't join a defensive alliance for nol reason and Russia has given plenty of reasons: Wars of aggression, civilian massacres, shooting down civilian airliners, bombings of civilians, supplying chemical weapons to dictators. The list is endless. Of course everybody wants to join a defensive alliance against a dictator like Putin who will happily have tens of thousands of civilians murdered for no real reason.@@Dead4ev1
That makes no sense. If that is the case, the U.S. would have already attacked China back when it had a way larger weaponry advantage with that logic, but that never happened. You are manipulating the situation to make it something it isn't. The recent test launches surrounding Taiwan also proves that this is not why China is building launch sites. Duh! Nice try though.
Why have several generals of the rocket force been sacked and disappeared ? A report that none of their hypersonic rockets had hit any targets obviously had nothing to do with those disappearances. Why didn't the WSJ cover that ?
Imagine if China started establishing military bases in Latin America and Caribbean region. How would the US feel? Same thing, vice versa. China's need to beef up it's defences is sort of understandable.
It depends which side you want to live in. I think US is generally a democratic country with high standards of living which needs to protect its achievements. Chinese are the bad guys who openly want to attack Taiwan, which is another country trying to become democratic state. Where would you choose to live under?
@@chrisjohnson2065water in China has different physical properties if you didn't already know. It's still drinkable but can be manipulated with certain compounds to make it much more exothermic than water in the West and thus usable as rocket propellant. Something to do with the differences in gravity and air density in China vs. the United States. This was discussed in last month's Nature Journal.
I love how they tried to victimize themselves. That's a map of China territory and we can still see a U.S base nearby. Instead of Chinese being defensive, he said it's "targeting" Taiwan, Korea and Japan while having multiple U.S bases nearby. Those bases are closer to China's Western borders than it is to the American's Western shore.
@@camt8804 If China folded and allow Japan to redeploy the 4.3 million Japanese soldiers in China to the Pacific, the US might not have those bases in East Asia.
Like how they don't care that their rocket boosters fall anywhere in a designated province, filled with toxic red fuel? So advanced having boosters fall on your populace each launch.
Why is it an issue for China to set up a defence strategy? You have military base surrounding their country, are they not allowed to defend themselves?
Do not try to understang yankee logic... They openly told China any attempt at innovation is a threat to US national security. They expect China to only produce socks shirts aND all the low end products
Does "defending" mean arbitrarily drawing non-recognized lines on map, based on made up historical pretense, and aggressively enforcing them with military forces?
If the country is bad and aggressive like China, then probably they should not. Are you ok with killers recently released from prison to allow to have automatic weapons?
If a Chinese observer ascends the tallest tower in Shanghai and gazes from north to south, they will see American military bases spanning from Japan to Australia, constituting a surveillance belt directed towards Chinese territory. It is rational for them to enhance their defense and counterattack capabilities. Furthermore, they should initiate negotiations with Caribbean nations to establish Chinese bases in countries such as Cuba and Guatemala, reciprocating the American approach. The world has no owner, and the USA is not the world's police, although they think so.
The use of military has always been about enforcing ones economic desires. What your initiative will establish, is Chinas economic influence in said areas. Replacing one nuclear superpower as an economic overlord with another is quite counterproductive. It is like paying 100€ so the neighbour won't get 50€, while the institution who owns you both just gained 100€. The world will always have one major ruling country, unless another Cold War is put to place. That would be counterproductive as well, because more and more resources would be put to military economy, rather than for the good of humanity. People, including you and me are property and that won't change no matter who is holding the leash, the Yanks, Chinese or Russians...all the same and none of them are YOUR friends with YOUR best interests in mind.
when a country that had 1000++ nukes, overseas military base, nuke an ocean, mass global surveilence, critique a country that do the same with what their did.
To be real, it's really not about Taiwan but how the US wants to contain China. Taiwan just happens to occupy a highly strategic spot for that purpose.
@user-ng5uj4ou4e Taiwan is a sovereign nation, while California is a US state... Military aid of Taiwan has been reactionary to Chinese threats to invade the country by force.

I think because China has said it plans to 'reunify' Taiwan, through diplomacy 'if possible' but that they will use military means if necessary. Taiwan, based on their most recent election, doesn't want to reunify with China diplomatically anytime soon. China has spent the last 10 years building up its military at an accelerated rate, has told the PLA to be ready to invade Taiwan by 2027 if intelligence agencies are to be believed, using cyber warfare to steal secrets to benefit both private businesses as well as the government, and regularly harasses countries and their ships throughout the South China Sea and has done this for 2 decades or more, with it intensifying in recent years. In that context, surely it's not hard to figure out why any country that may possibly be in conflict with China may have concerns about these developments?

Maybe. But given that they have made significant and undeniable strides in their space program, it's fair to assume that the range is somewhat accurate, if not greater than what is reported.

from what i understand the thing about water in the rocket tanks seems more to be a translational issue than actual water being in tanks. its like a metaphor about corruption in the rocket froces. it makes no sense for there to be water in tanks when the rockets are powered by solid fuel.
I remember when Xi jinping said if anyone dare attack china, they'll 'toupoxueliu'. And your western media translate that literally, saying china is ready to hit American in the head and make American bleed. Well it's not wrong, but just weird. It's like if every time an American president said 'may god bless America' Chinese media put out a headline saying 'in order to beat china, American government are seeking divine intervention', technically it's true, but just a bit stupid.
The phrase "Fill water" is a mistranslation. "Filled water" is a common Chinese phrase used to denote that a high quality item has been replaced with a lower quality item (Such as an expensive broth being replaced with tap water). Despite what Bloomberg states, the Chinese missiles were not actually "Filled with Water", but rather, the expensive rocket fuel used in the missiles were replaced with subpar fuel.
In other words, "Filled water" is supposed to be translated to "diluted". Usually this saying is used when you drink some of the hard liquor and then "fill it with water" afterwards to make it appear as nothing is missing but in actual fact, its being diluted.
as a singapore chinese and a descendant of the dragon ,china is just building a sharp swords for its protection of its citizens and not for invasion and wars what usa is doing

The most obvious question that anyone can ask about the Chinese army and navy is this: how can we be so sure they are defensive? The answer is also quiet obvious. They are defensive because they are 'land based missiles' and their navy, while huge, cannot operate that far away. The answer is obvious if you look at what China actually does. When they weaponised islands in the South China Sea, its defensive, because they instal missiles on these islands to signal to other countries that they have a fixed point military installation that can 'cover' the sea in this region. The islands cannot suddenly grow flippers and sail its way down to Australia and harass them. To be 'offensive' (or in American military language, 'force projection'), China needs to install these military installation on mobile platforms and drive these platforms up to the coast of its targets. This means China needs aircraft carriers and battle fleets to sail all the way across the world. Why are the rockets defensive? Because they are stationed in China and have an effective range meansured from the Chinese mainland. It is similar to a porcupine's spikes. Hard to handle, but only painful to those who tries to touch it. To properly threaten other countries, China needs to build logistics to feed, arm, and cloth its army while its army marches into another nation. In the RUS v UKR war, the two sides are taking turns hitting each other's oil storage, ammunition storage, and other logistic like trucks and trains. China cannot march its army to India (cause of the mountains), it cannot march its army to South Korea as it will be discovered when entering north Korea, it cannot march its army to Japan or Taiwan, cause of the sea, and its friendly to Russia, kazakhstan, etc. This is obviously trying to counter American bases. Its telling Americans station around the Pacific that they might be there to containe China's growth, and may have a trigger on a war, but there is also a barrel against their heads and the trigger in reverse are being held by the PLA.
However I belive is enough room for cooperation between these two Superpowers... It depends on political wisdom... In this respect I remember Henry Kissinger! Back then China was far behind in all fields of activitities... Not any more... Afterall we are living in the same Little village called Earth! Right!?
I don't think that have such arsenals could be seen as a threat because this world has no guarantee especially when living with countries like western countries who have nothing but triggering and maintaining conflicts.
