The secret chipping technique everyone must know...
A few weeks ago you probably saw a short game lesson where I worked with arguably the best short game coach in the world, Pete Cowen.
I wasn't able to share everything with you in that golf video so today I'd like to reveal some of the key insights Pete Cowen shared on how to develop a chipping technique that seems to guarantee strike every single time.
It's impossible to strike it perfect every time with a driver swing but for your chip shots and pitch shots around the green it 100% is.
You just need a repeatable chipping technique. In this lesson I'm going to expand on some of the principles I've shared in the past to include some of the little secrets that only someone with Pete Cowen's experience working with the best players on the PGA Tour would know.
You won't believe how simple this is. The best players in the world make the short game look easy because they choose a chipping technique that makes it easy.
My hope is that whatever level your short game is right now this golf lesson will elevate it to something that will make make you smile and will be the envy of your playing partners.

ABOUT DANNY
-----------------------
Thanks for stopping by. I created this website as a resource just for you to support you on your golfing journey as I know how tricky learning this game can be…to say the least!
I personally found learning the game too long and difficult in the early days. I read all the books, watched all the videos but my game was not improving. Then after studying various forms of neuro science, motor learning, psychology and personal development in less than two years I went from struggling golfer to the final stage of the Open Championship.
On RU-vid and my personal website (www.dannymaude.com) I will bring you the most up to date training, training that is getting tangible results for my clients right now. I don’t know where you are in your golfing journey, you could be just starting out or maybe your body isn’t as flexible as it once was or you’ve got ambitions to slash your handicap. Wherever you are I’ve created a place here you can learn, share your ideas, ask questions and get all the support you need to enjoy this great game.
Be prepared though. If its a quick fix you are after Im not your man. Here I will give you step-by-step advice that you can take straight to the practice ground and apply to the course but it will require you to get stuck in, screw up…a lot, practice some more and then watch those scores tumble
I’ve had the pleasure of coaching thousands of students all around the world and if you are up for the challenge and are ready to get in the game…LETS GO TO WORK!

You must have read my mind! With a crook knee I’ve being practising chipping and came to conclusion it’s a lot about the turn or pivot. Can’t wait to hobble outside to try this as I top 25% of chips in practice and on course. Coaches have to be firstly good communicators. You have got this in spades. Well done and thank you from all of us.

I feel fortunate this week for two very good reasons. I saw your video with Pete, and I have a range across the street out back to practice what he preached. My last shot last night was a chip in for eagle and a tie for the lead in the 6 man skins game we were playing. Get up and out of the way. Words to live by.

Beach Ball concept changed everything for me. I was blading and chunking many shots. I’ve watched many videos and tried all the tips and techniques. But even though my setup and many other things were right, I was overthinking, and I was anxious over the ball. Nothing was feeling natural. I was becoming mechanical and failing miserably. I needed a simple, rhythmic swing motion and swing thought -- and the thought of gently moving the beach ball gave me a simple fluid motion that WORKED. In a couple minutes I went from awful to hitting shots just like I wanted to. Brilliant and effective swing visualization leading to a natural fluid movement. Thank you.

I watched your Pete Cowan lesson and in the comments asked if you would rework the lesson for handicap golfers. You said you would… and this is brilliant. Even practising on a carpet at home, I now have every time just a gentle brush on the carpet at the low point(no ball!) instead of chunking. What I was missing before was firstly trying to HIT the ball instead of letting gravity do it’s job and secondly, the need to rise up at and just after impact - hence the frequent fat shots. Many thanks !

Eureka.! Despite my struggles, I persisted because your instructions are always good and have always worked for me. Once I applied pressure down, but down relative to my shoulders instead of towards the fixed point of the ball down on the ground, it worked. I could both apply pressure down and let my body/arm/club unit to fall while pivoting. It then took just a little experimentation to find the proper fluid motion. I am glad that I trusted you and stuck with it. Thanks again

Very much one of my fave backyard drills. You helped clarify the need “for getting out of the way”. Too often I try to get greedy and pull the club thru, rather than letting it fall and engage the bounce. This drill is a great tool to keep that from happening.

Another great video Danny. I came back in the game 6 months ago after a 30 years pause. So I still have a long way to go to get better. However on the chipping side I always have used the technique you showed as this is in line with the field hockey stroke you make (I have played on a high level). This morning I had an argument with one of the golf pros at our club and he told me I am doing it wrong. I told me that I need to have the arms in front of the body and push the club through. I told him that my chips using the arc movement in 90 % of the time have great flight, spin and control. I told him that I would use the bounce to have more flexibility in my chipping. Long story short. My pro said it is wrong what I am doing. Well I will stick with it as many profs are teaching this like yourself, Dan Grieves, Pete Cowen.... Must be something true in here... Cheers, Hendrik

it takes a rare kind of talent to be a great teacher. unfortunately there many fewer people out there with this talent than are teaching, lol. i am a big believer in in-person lessons (competent ones, anyway), but your RU-vid videos have without question improved my game, and indeed have even helped me assimilate some concepts that my in-person coach brought up but didn't explain in a way that allowed me to integrate into my swing holistically. honestly, i have not found anyone else out there on RU-vid who is better at you at articulating the mechanics of this dead-simple-yet-infinitely-complex sport. i mean, this is probably not an entirely fair comparison, but if you watch your Pete Cowen video and then this video, it's like you're able to better crystallize golf ideas than even he is!

Danny, thank you for allowing yourself to be the guinea pig in this instance. Watching someone with your skills and ability struggle to get this right is heartening to see. It shows how there is so much more to understand and learn about executing the correct technique of what looks at first glance to be a relatively simple type of shot. I have learned so much from this as the short pitch shot is my nemesis. This has given me a much clearer idea of what I am doing wrong and what needs to change. The proof will be in the pudding but as a far less skilled golfer I feel this has given me hope at least of solving what has been a real problem in my game for a very long time, and for this, I am indebted to you.

Thanks Danny for great follow up to your Pete Cowen lesson. Method to give us so much confidence in those scoring shots round the green. Though I'm also working on not leaving it short to start with!!! Cheers, and thanks again.

Since watching your session with Pete I have been grinding this out, and yes it does work. Once I got it down it was just a matter of trusting it especially when playing in a medal. I have more tap in putts chipping this way.

Danny, thankyou, you've done it again you legend. This just took my chipping to the next level. I practiced it for a few sessions then took it on course today. Iron play was dodgy today so I had loads of chances to chip. Out of 10 chips, 7 ended up close enough to tap in with the lobby and the other three were inside 8 foot.

First off love the videos, you have made me a better golfer tenfold and I couldn't thank you enough! One thing I've always struggled with in the short game is in thick grass and uneven surfaces, what is the best way to get out of these areas? Where you might have an uphill lie or downhill lie with a good amount of rough to get out of? I tend to fat it and rocket the ball to the other side of the green.

After practicing this technique at the range, I took this to the course as an experiment. I moved up to the white tees playing about 5300 yds. I played the entire round with this chipping motion with the 5 wood being the longest club I used off the ground. The longest EFFECTIVE backswing I could muster with this method produced about 75% of my normal distances club to club with incredible accuracy and very consistent gapping club to club. I had charted distances at the range and quickly discovered (with this chipping motion) my clubs had a 10 yd gap starting with the lob wedge at 40 yds and ending with the 5 wood at 150. I was able to easily work fades and draws using this method as well. Very nice technique! I would like to see you connect the dots between this method and a full swing. In other words, a progression in one video with let's say a 7 iron. Start with a close bump and run and work away from the green in increments until you are at your maximum distance with your 7 iron, demonstrating along the way the swing changes required as you transition from this chipping motion to a full "get all of it" 7 iron and then moving to fairway woods and the driver. I see many videos of how to perform this type of swing or that type of swing, but have yet to see one that connects the dots and how to transition from one swing to another and why. I appreciate what you do!

Very true people, I already tried the Pete Cowan technique and it works! You will notice a completely different ball flight with this technique. In fact someone the other day at my local P&P commented on my lovely arcing ball flight. As always, I thank them and then tell them about Danny, making sure they spell the last name right! Cheers Danny! 😁😁

Let it fall is not what i’m feeling. It feels more like a push with the right wrist. Hinge and unhinge the right wrist with pressure down is my feeling.
