The SoC isn't the problem, it's the lack of RAM and Google's incompetence with bug fixing. Ever notice how performance stays much more consistent when you don't touch the power button, but the second you do it dramatically cripples it? A two-year-old bug that Google has failed to address. And 4 gigabytes of RAM is definitely not enough for Chromebooks, not ones with lower end SoC's and storage.
Hearing a lot about the Kompanio 838 chipset, seems very interesting one in terms of the performance core units and also involves a great efficiency in terms of the chromebooks.
If this new chip is really good, Acer needs to get the news out as soon as possible and as widely as possible. I would also like to see the 513 compared to the 713.
If you rely more on Android apps than Linux apps on your Chromebook, the ARM64 processor is a better choice. However, if you rely more on Linux apps than Android apps, an X86_64 processor is better. The issue is broad app compatibility, not core function, which works on both CPUs. Since third-party app developers are involved, I don't see this changing anytime soon.
Look at it go 😃 🏁 You mentioned briefly at 3:13 an animation bug with Chrome OS when you open programs in Overview mode. I noticed a similar bug with my dual monitor setup at home. When I want to bring a window into full screen, I would get a window animation showing it move left before working normally. Could there be a connection to Chrome 97?
I'm hyped! I've been daily-ing an MT8183 since November, (Lenovo chromebook ideapad flex 3 11.6" 2in1 11M836 Jacuzzi) it's a surprisingly capable system as under powered as it is. I Geekbenched the MT8183 at a hilarious 298 single core, 1404 multi core (Geekbench 5.4.3 Android AArch64) but it's a surprisingly capable CPU with a ridiculously long battery life. Slowman™ tier technology is comfy. The Kompanio 1380 looks really nice!
If they don't allow you to benchmark, that means they are slower than the competition. MTK was on top of their lungs when it came to the Dimensity 9xxx chips.
K1380 looks like a great improvement from previous ARM chips as a Mid-Range option. Although lacking as a "Primary PC" for heavy productivity work like having multiple Chrome tabs and Android apps open all at once. I'd like to see faster UFS 2.2 or SATA3 storage at this price point, eMMC is the worst deal breaker that lets down AMD and all their efforts that led them here. And Robby my man, where are the Geekbench and Cinebench R23 scores???
It’s a pre-production device, so they are currently not allowed to run and share the results of any synthetic benchmarks. They’ll do so once they have a proper review unit in the studio.
Transition to UFS is much needed for mid-range Chromebooks. This is not only for performance, but also for device lifespan as eMMC is known to slow down significantly over time.
@Jyv Ben : Not really, it is extremely common to have more than 30 tabs open for work, even if you are just a student. I am a researcher, 100 tabs is pretty much a "bare minimum". There are PDF documents, PWAs like Office, and translation sites that require multiple instances of same web pages to be open simultaneously as there are limitations for each tab, I am currently working with 250+ tabs.
4x Cortex A78 cores at 3.0 GHz, 6nm TSMC - I would expect latest Cortex A710 but still much better than Qualcomm 7c with old A76 @ 2.4 GHz - A78 has IPC between Zen 2 and Zen 3 so pretty decent IPC while using half transistors than x86
I'm thinking of getting the Duet 5 for watching RU-vid Videos. I hope I'm doing a good investment since I already have the Chromebook Duet and it always freezes on me 🤔
That's why I returned my HP X2 11. You need a better processor to watch higher quality RU-vid videos without buffering. I upgraded to the Acer Spin 713 and haven't had issues. Just wish there was a Duet or X2 equivalent with a good processor.
I'm thinking about getting the lenovo Duet or Flex 5 and don't know which one to buy. I wanna use them mainly for taking notes in classroom, maybe writing a test and watching films, which one should I get?
@@andrewjohnson1486 thank you, but Chromebooks, even the 2-in-1, are sticking a specific case of laptops. BTW, this one has 8, but what about the subpar reference in the comparison? My guess is he's comparing a 8GB vs 4GB RAM 'Chromebooks'
The spin 513 is so close to perfection because of those perfs measures Juste lack a fingerprint reader and maybe a more even bezel around the display (the bottom bezel is not great) Would love a chromeos tablet with that chip (or the kompanio 820) with a 3/2 display
@@cobaltblue5523 Yea double the RAM for sure would help the 8 tabs opening and closing. Kinda unfair comparison, but I'm sure a newer CPU would be better than an older CPU. LOL!!
If you're looking for a Chromebook and have questions feel free to message me I've done extensive research on these I have a few I would be happy to help but one of the main things on this Chromebook the performance seems decent I don't think the comparison is very valid You should have done something with like at least an 8 GB model of a Chromebook I know he's trying to compare the media tech processors but the ASUS only has 4 gigabytes of RAM there are many other Chromebooks that are quite similar I understand they're not media tech but it would have been a much better comparison for example comparing the last Acer 513 with the Snapdragon 7C or he could have done the HPX2 with the Snapdragon 7C comes with 8 GB of RAM It has a 2K display so you know be pushing the same amount of pixels and all that and then also we have the Lenovo duet 5 with the Snapdragon 7C Gen 2 chip and 8 gigabytes of RAM those that have been a much better comparison in terms of how you know the previous Acer performed and then he can review those over those other Chromebooks
please......these guys don't compare the products they should not to mention they are both biased one is a hp fanboy and the other is a google fanboy................they are only motivated by money......they do an ok review though.

dude you just compared 4GB ram with a device with 8GB ram of course the task switching will be faster also when you play games you compare GPU power and RAM speed and storage speed (most games are not CPU bound) - nice to have but its not the ARM proccesor that you are testing
Yeah multi tasking and comparing it with different ram levels is odd. However the game comparisons do show how much more snap the new chip has over the older one.
The _GPU is part of the SOC_ so that comparison is valid. I agree they should've compared w/ a lesser device with similar RAM, e.g. a Duet 5 (SD7C/G2), but maybe a _low end Mediatek_ device w/ _8GB RAM_ doesn't exist. Still impressive.
My thoughts exactly that has doubled the RAM so how is that a fair fight in any way At least yeah that the duet 5 the new one or even the HPX 2 those both have gigabytes of RAM they have you know different processors Snapdragon 7c gen 1 and Snapdragon 7c gen 2 so you should have compared at least those because guess what The 513 prior had a Snapdragon 7c processor so that would have been an excellent way to compare those two like oh this is the you know performance of the similar to that and and it has AQ bytes of RAM so what it made way more sense yeah because in terms of a immediate processor I don't think there's any with a gigabyte ram model for Chromebooks right now just 4 GB
So my spin 713 died and looking for a replacement, and things aren't so clear cut anymore. Would love an arm Chromebook for better android app support but like you mentioned with cod mobile, some apps are jist not whitelisted for chrome os and for the life of me I can't figure out why. The uncertainty makes me lean towards an android tablet as I don't need to use the device for work. The likes of the Xiaomi pad 5 is more powerful than any current arm Chromebook. it's cheap, and will DEFINITELY run all android games but the android tablet UI is a mess.. I love the Chromebook user experience but without Dev support having a high powered arm Chromebook doesn't have all the advantages one would assume.

Manufacturers need to start using real nvme SSD’s. That will be the biggest jump in performance. eMMC is slow and always has been. Acer C720 still competes speed wise with any chromebook out there in speed of booting and loading chrome windows and it is 8 years old.
I had a HP Chromebook 11 (the very first one) for 5 years until end of life support. Then I got bitten by the end of life update. Kind of put me off Chromebook's. these things are still working fine but they are only fit for landfill afterwards. Can you believe here in the UK some major retailers are selling Chromebook's (on offer) with only 6 months of support left in them ? Some people will end up being really upset when they find out its only good for landfill. Even some of the more expensive Chromebook's here in the UK only have 2 yeas of support ! Google need to get on top of this and the major retailers here should be more honest with shoppers. No way do I want to spend the equivalent of $1,700 on a top of the line Chromebook for only 2 to 3 years of support left in it.
Why chrome OS laptops can't compete with windows? I don't know but chrome os compete with the specs sheet of windows more people will buy chrome laptops and the ecosystem will grow much better. That's what most people want. But that doesn't happen yet.
Sooooo by the looks of it the next series from MediaTek will be M1esque in performance? As this feels like something that you would call upper midrange nowadays, but if I remember right MT will pump out another faster processor for chromebooks this year right?
@@Spyke_misc I'm still confused by mediatek giving them each different numbers. Mt8195, kompanio 13..whatever and that's the same unit. I mean come oooon.
@@Spyke_misc have you ever tried that screen though? I have it on the current 713 and it's just gorgeous. Sad that Acer couldn't make the same style of chassis, but a bit lighter (like the current 513 with the snapdragon 7C) ... anyway you can't have it all can you.
