This Comedy Proved Jim Carrey Was A Dramatic Actor

Jim Carrey is most known for his hilarious movies and larger than life characters. Movies like Dumb and Dumber, The Mask, and Ace Ventura put Jim Carrey on the map for most of the world. But his turn in Liar Liar, proved that Jim Carrey was capable of both off the wall slapstick comedy, and a much more dramatic tone. Liar Liar paved the way for Jim Carrey to land roles in films like The Truman Show and Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind. Without Liar Liar, the world may have never seen Jim Carrey's full range as an actor.

Eternal Sunshine is one of the great masterpieces of cinema and the fact that it was Carrey was at the center of it along with the likes of Winslet's manic pixie girl, Gondry's wild whimsical directing, and Charlie Kaufman's masterful script is proof that he's truly capable of above and beyond tragicomedic acting. I cant imagine Joel as anyone else despite the depressed energy he had because it felt like Carrey brought a very human side to the character in a way only he could do. Also, let's not forget another outing he had where his performance was masterful: MAN ON THE MOON
@bricelory9534

Eternal Sunshine remains in the top slot for my favorite movie, and largely because Carrey brought Joel to life so well. He had exactly the dry humor and hint of self-aware melodrama that the role needed and that resonates perfectly with the character and people in similar positions.

The greatest actors are the ones who can be the roll and never consider being anyone else. Ever since I first saw him on "In Living Color" I knew he was an amazing actor. He didn't need to poke fun of anyone but himself to be funny. It's rare to see a comedian exclusively laugh at themselves in a world were stand up completely controlled comedy. To me, he wasn't just a physical comedian. He embodied the character he was playing. So when I saw him in Cable Guy, in that last scene, needing a friend. I knew it wasn't just the message, it was Jim's acting. Even now, in what could be his last role of his career as Dr. Robotnic. He made me do a double take in the last scene of Sonic the Hedgehog 2. I lagitametly thought they got Mike Pollock to do the voice coming out of the egg mech. But it was Jim doing the role justice. He has allways been the best entertainer I have ever witnessed and he did so by not judging his roles. So many "actors" refuse roles that Jim jumps at the chance to try. Out of embarrassment, because of there "image". I say they just aren't able to handle the acting prowess needed to take on the role.

The thing sbout Jim that works so well, is that he's very conveniently good looking. But not so good looking that it's unnatural. So that makes him personable. Similarly to Phil Hartman.

It's like Adam Sandler in Click for me. He might've done a dramatic role prior but that's where I was like oh shit he can actually act.

Adam sandler sucks. Just because he does “dramatic movies” doesn’t mean he’s good in them

I'm pretty sure I popped a rib bone laughing so hard during this movie. But more on point, I loved him in "The Majestic", which was truly a dramatic role (no comedy). I thought he was excellent in that movie.

This being a RU-vid which caters to the English speaking audience, it is World wide and I wish to showcase one actor from India playing in Tamil movies named "S J Suryah" He has mentioned in many interviews that he has been inspired by Jim Carrey and you can witness the effect of Jim Carrey in his wonderful performances. Try his movies like Monster(2019), Nenjam Marappathillai(2021) and Mark Antony(2023) You can see how Jim Carrey's spiritual discipline performance
