can you compare navi and turing for video editing, transcoding and streaming? online someone says navi has bad x264 performances but it's hard to find benchmarks or good comparisons.
Glad to finally see a review on this card. I picked it up last month because it looked nice and more importantly, fit in my itx build. I was also impressed by it's performance. :)
How is it going for you tho? And do you only using it for gaming or editing too? I was planning to buy this card for my PC that will be used for 3D/2D rendering and Video Editing.
@@Akiwaaa_ still going strong. I can't speak to it's editing capability as I don't really do any editing. I think it depends on the programs you use. I know Radeon is better at asynchronous computing, while some programs prefer the Cuda cores from Nvidia.
@@Ryutai7 I don't understand about the Asynchronous, but I think you're right about some software prefer Cuda. Well, I asked that cause I right now I'm building PC for 3D rendering, 3D modelling, and Video editing, and I heard some 3D Software start to utilize the GPU for the render not CPU anymore and sadly that some of the software is NVIDIA only because of the Cuda. But, I really like team red tho, cause the value is better, I hope in the future some other software will utilize AMD cards more, so I don't regret buying this card. Edit: Thank you for the fast replied tho, I don't expect you to replied that fast since it's an old comment.
@@basil5863 I can't say for sure, but it's a very compact card for being a twin fan. And unlike the trending thicc cards, this one is the traditional 2 slot thickness. Unless your case mandates a specialized itx card, I'd wager it'd fit. You case manufacturer should have published details on card size allowance that you can check against the dimensions of the card.
Powercolor gets it, give us a capable cooler in a simple and compact package, no gamer bling or excessively bulky coolers needed. If I could buy an RX 5700 XT, I'd buy this one every day!
I have the Powercolor Red Dragon RX 580 and have been surprised with it considering the price. At the time it was one of least expensive of the OC'd 580's. I am glad you made this as I have been thinking about upgrading to a 5700 XT but I use a micro ATX case and have been concerned with how the larger cards would fit. Not to much the length but the thickness and my 580 sits roughly 15mm's above my PSU.
Got this card like 4 weeks ago, and I must say pretty nice! I took it over the Saphire Pulse, because the pricing in my area was a bit worse at this point and I like the minemalistic design, which perfectly fits in my build. I also like that it doesn't go above the Edge of the MOBO, cause that gives the build the more sleek look. Nice card. Mine even clocks up to about 2000mhz average for what reason ever, but is still damn silent for a such a little card.
Nice review, good to see it keep up. Is there any chance you can also take a look at Powercolor's no branding 5700XT ? It's a bit smaller than the Red Dragon and has a bit more ITX compatibility. You can find it on Newegg under "AXRX 5700 XT 8GBD6-3DH"
Good call, I didn't know that even existed. The heatsink is smaller than Red Dragon's, the fans are different too and it has no dual BIOS. But it's still better than reference and probably the smallest non-reference 5700XT, so it might be interesting to SFF crowd.
I have the non-red dragon model. Its very, very loud and has TjMax temps of 110-112 degrees. But hey, I got it for $295 so I can't complain. It competes with the 2070 super at nearly half the price.
Hi, love your channel. Have a small suggestion. When you testing the noise level at various RPMs put a wave form of the sound somewhere on the screen so we can visually see the difference between the noise level and how it looks with respect to ambient.
im using 3600X + 5700XT Red Dragon playing @1080P 60Hz 27" and im very happy with this combo. with some fan profile changes, my card never hits 80C, playing AC Odyssey, Star Wars, Borderlands 3, The Other Worlds.
4:31 considering these tests were done in an open test bench wouldn't the temps be even higher in a case - especially in one of those fancy ones with the front blocked and the glass side panel?
@@mesicek7 Like I said, the reference wasn't designed to explode. People are still using blower-equipped Rx 480s and older. How many years were you planning on using this thing? 10?
I use the same GPU in a Inwin 301 (a case with a blocked front, and glass panel) and it's fine. I have pretty terrible case fans, yet even so it doesn't get close to overheating, I really recommend it
Info for Louqe Ghost S1 Users: The PowerColor 5700 XT Red Dragon does fit the Ghost S1 BUT! 1. With regular PCIE cables you need a small top hat because the card ist too tall. 2. You build your own 90 degree PCIE extention cables to use it without a top hat 3. OR you buy those. I found them in two stores (moddiy & kareonkables). They should fit as well but I haven't tested it yet. 4. You cut a piece out of the middle aluminum plate and use the 180 degree PCIE adapters as suggested in the top comment here. I've seen someone doing it on reddit. But to be honest I wouldn't cut into my ghost. In comparison to the refrence card the Red Dragon is waaaaaaay more quiet and cooler as well. With a bit of fan curve adjustment and undervolting you'll achieve a junction temperature around 80 Celsius. If you want to use a 5700XT (e.g. if you plan on building a hackintosh) I can recommend the PowerColor Red Dragon highly! Oh and you have to loosen the screws of the PCIE riser cable to make space. Otherwise you can't put it into the PCIE slot.
Looking forward to your velka build. I'm planning the same 3600, velka5, red dragon build. Appreciate if you can give a brief comment on the dragon vs pulse.
@@optimumtech lol i think ive seen about 10 pulse reviews. Buildzoid reckons the dragon's vrm is a step up from the pulse. So as long as the cooling is sufficient (that's where you come in) , dragon it is. BTW you are quickly becoming the go to youtuber for sff. Well done!
i love the look of this card, simple and doesn't scream "GAMER" like all other partner card design. Just curious, in term of thickness is it comparable to Sapphire Pulse?
I was looking at this card because I was building a computer in the NCASE M1. I ended up going with a different 5700 XT that was Powercolor's model right under this one because it's not as tall. You have to use a slim PCI-e adapter to fit the red dragon in the M1. Maybe I should have bought the adapter and the red dragon, but I didn't realize that was an option at the time, so I just opted for their base model, non-reference card instead. Temperatures are fine, especially after undervolting.
Powecolor has been stepping up their game recently. Just a few years ago I wouldn't even mention the name to friends who are planning to buy AMD cards. Now, it might just be one of the first recommendations from me, even considering buying one myself.
@@novakk86 good for you mate. It's just that here in my country, powercolor didn't have a good reputation among retailers and I've only started seeing it being recommended during the early 2017's because of how they've improved their quality.
Finally someone reviews this card they also have one that's cheaper $400 same as cheaper base model with different fans and cooler which exhaust out the case.
I find your production value really, really high, however, one thing bugs me about your graphs: when you superimpose one chart over the other, to present a new value, there is a slight misalignment between both images that makes the horizontal scan noticeable. I wonder how come this happens?
hi, how do you think the base "PowerColor Radeon™ RX 5700 XT" compares to this? from what I see it is $10 cheaper, the fans are smaller with 9 blades instead of 11, and the heatsink fins run front to back instead of up and down, and it's 10mm shorter (230mm vs 240mm)
i appreciate the compact size of this card but the height might indeed be a limiting factor for me. i can't wait for an AIB manufacturer to relocate the power connectors to a different location or different orientation.
Nice review thx. - And your scene lighting is great. How long before your neighbours work out what you do and start turning up for build assists though? :-)
I hastily picked up a Sapphire 5700 XT Pulse and it's too fat for the Louqe Ghost S1 or Nuvolo Steck cases I have. This Powercolor Red Dragon fits perfectly in both cases. Another issue I discovered is neither case has a Gen4 compatible riser, Windows 10 would crash constantly until I found a setting in the Gigabyte Aorus X570's motherboard bios to set the PCIe from Gen4 to Gen3 which eliminated the crashes. Will have to wait for the next batch of Louqe's MkIII which is supposed to include Gen4 riser cables.
I am very excited to hear that the Red Dragon fits into the Ghsot S1! My Velka 5 ships tomorrow and I really wanted to get this card but I didn't think it'd fit. Did you need to use low-profile PCIe connectors, by chance?
@@lapin-rouge I'll have to make a correction, the Red Dragon won't fit either it is too tall like the Sapphire 5700 XT Pulse. Best to stick with a reference card. I'm currently using the now unavailable Radeon VII (might be able to find one on EBay). Sorry for giving out misleading information.
Delete my ptrevious statement, the Red Dragon 5700 XT does fit in the Louqe Ghost S1, but due to the height of the card, the 8 pin and 6 pin power connectors causes the top cover to not sit flush with the case. Will require a top hat to give some clearance. I have 2 tophats, the small and large models. The small was part of the 1st gen batch and it's a piece of crap. The screws won't hold it together and it easily falls apart. The tall tophat is a 3rd gen model and is much better designed and works as it's supposed to. Availability is scarce for them, waiting to see what the next gen brings to see if it's worth upgrading to that case.
@@Phanbot01 Fantastic! I'm going to try and grab some low-profile power connectors or make some and see if I can get it to fit in the Velka 5. Thank you very much for letting me know!
Please do a video on modding reference RX 5700 for a value proposition. Flash 5700XT bios & replace reference blower with an Arctic Acceloro or Raijintek Morpheus.
im torn between the red dragon and the gaming OC 5700 non XT, gaming OC is better thermally (looks INMO), kind of better for my case seeing that it is narrower, but the red dragon has 8+6 pins instead of only a 8 pin and has dual bios, i'm planning on using powerplay tables or biosflash to a 5700XT so im worried the 8 pin wont be enough
Hi, thanks for the video ! Do you think it would be possible to make a comparison review between this card and the 2070 super mini? considering price, performance, noise, temps and power usage ; I settled on the latter for my futur sub 8L SFF build but this makes me wonder ! Thanks again !
The Zotac 2070S Mini (the only one available so far) is smaller, with smaller fans, so it will most likely be louder. The power draw should be similar, maybe a slight win for 2070S, but that depends on their clocks and voltage. You would want to undervolt them a little, anyway, for better thermals. 2070S is 5-10% faster, depending on the game. It's also around $100 more expensive, so it's not really worth it unless you absolutely need the smaller card...but then you might as well get the ITX versions of 2070. On the other hand, the Red Dragon is a tall card, so check if you can fit it at all...
Bought this card as a bit of gamble as there wasn’t any reviews on it on RU-vid aside from anecdotal. And it’s way quieter than my sapphire 580 8gb I’m upgrading from and price was cheaper than gaming x
having a 132mm height it will have difficult time fitting into small cases. with the addition of power cable it reaches 140mm . it wont fit in my air 240
Nice review. Not too long and straight to the point. I also did a review of that card on reddit (since I couldn't find much info on that specific model). Glad to see my results are pretty much within margin of error compared to yours. Didn't know about your channel until someone in the reddit thread I made pointed out you had also made a review of that card. For those interested (not as in depth as this review though) : www.reddit.com/r/Amd/comments/dmr5vt/powercolor_red_dragon_radeon_rx_5700_xt_review/
Dude THANKK. Apparently it's official: Powercolor isn't even planning to send these to reviewers xD (it's on sale, no need for any extra marketing, blah blah), see Hardware Unboxed's latest Asus TUF vid.
Got one of these in my Ghost S1, performs great, though I had to modify the connectors to fit the top panel on. Only thing is I can't get 0db mode to work, which bugs me, it just sits at an annoying low RPM.
I can’t say for sure on these Navi GPUs, but with Polaris a custom fan curve cancels out the Zero RPM on/off switch. Double check that. Also, in global settings I believe there is another option that relates to fan speed..could be wrong. I’m not at my PC at the moment
In some of the absolute smallest cases, people have been scrapping the cable side connector all together, plugging the pins in directly and then bending them. Recently helped a guy do this, we just used two layers of heat shrink and slid a bit of rubber cut from a very large rubber band between the two rows of pins. Everything fits nicely and looks very neat.
Take the stickers off of the fans as mine have disappeared without a trace lol. Its a decent, quiet card. AMD drivers are still a bit of a mess though but there are improvements.
I installed my gpu on the motherboard and connected it w/ the power supply. For some reason, the whole pc works except the gpu. The cpu got warm but the fans didn't work. How do I fix this?
@@0FFICERPROBLEM yeah that seems like the case. I think it will perform surprisingly good given that it isn't overclocked but has similar amount of cooling
I'm surprised at how small that card is. Comparing it to my 5700XT Nitro+ on an ITX build, that is a massive GPU, pretty much the biggest component in my computer lol.
