I’ve held huge colony’s of the green ones and my fingers have been covered in slime plenty of times and I’ve never had any problems. I just wash my hands with soap when I’m done. I believe as long as you don’t get it in your mouth or eyes your fine.
I had a bad experience in June 2016, did a video about it. Scared the living sh*t out of me. Told my husband what to tell the paramedics if things should go sideways overnight. Still have a cough from that. 😳
This is incredibly rare to happen the only reason this gotten so popular is because of an idiot guy who boil his live rock with corals in it and inhale the toxins
There are some recorded deaths from palytoxin in the literature: Tubaro A, et al. Case definitions for human poisonings postulated to palytoxins exposure. Toxicon 2011;57:478-95.
I have just been testing the equipment of my various aquariums for magnetic field intensity, and was quite alarmed by the results, the worst offender was the protein skimmer giving off 105 µT (microteslars) and a small canister filter was giving off up to 60 µT. The field strength was still up to 25 µT at a distance of two feet from the skimmer. A functioning washing machine gave an up close reading of 2.65 µT which dropped to zero at 2 foot distance! Fields greater than 0.2 -0.4 µT, are considered very harmfull and have links to various cancers. I'm rather pleased my tanks are in an outbuilding and not in a living space! My question is why is aquarium equipment giving such high readings in comparrison to a washing machine on a spin cycle? With cancer affecting 1 in 3 and predicted to rise to 1 in 2 in a few years, perhaps we should be paying attention to the EMF's in our living spaces and perhaps consider the health of our fish and start demanding electrical equipment for aquaria to meet higher standards than they are at the present time? My Meterk Digital LCD EMF Meter Detector cost £13.25 on ebay.
done what you said few years ago took all my rock out and pressure wash them that night had bad fever felt hot and cold shivers and did not stop shaking never again lesson learnt sorry can not spell
Great video. It's TRUE you have to be careful with so many misleading items out there. I once bought a box of safety matches, lit one and stuffed it down the back of the sofa. In no time at all it was a blaze. So much for those safety matches. Never again.
I react mildly everytime i maintain my tank... i love my palys and zoas . i just dont eat them or rub them on fresh cuts or eyes. running carbon helped a ton.
could be the green button palys, the Kenya tree, would be my guess, I could just be sensitive to the saltwater. everytime I do water change or maintanence I get really stuffed up and congested.
I’ve had these a bunch of times and Always treated them with respect and care, so I’ve never had a problem, but I do think I’ve seen negative reaction in a fish that picked at it.
Prestige Reef they could be! It’s always hard to correlate exactly, but it was an out of the blue reaction for the fish and the coral looked damaged. I’d imagine the toxin evolved to protect them from marine organisms and not boiling though, so it seems likely that it would be a somewhat effective deterrent against nibbling sea creatures.
That's crazy I literally removed a colony of poly not zoa corals from rock by hand with tweezers literally plucked like 40 out with no protection. 😳 I did start to feel funny but was fine after a bit..washed my hands with soap then peroxide then alcohol and soap one more time Please don't do what I did stay safe.
Going to send this video to my mother, she just sent me another "coral will kill me" email after reading an article telling me I'm gonna die from my reef tank. lol
I'm still not sure if I shoukd put these into my aquarium.. I mean they're really pretty, but I'm afraid of the toxins, especially when working on the aquarium while being pregnant. Maybe I will put them in there when the children have become old enough..
How can I get rid of them? Can I use bleach? And if so how much and for how long ? . Sorry for so many questions but I’m getting my dads reef tank sense he doesn’t have time for it anymore and I’m worry of how to get rid of them
Wash hands before eating, drinking.. and smoking! I heard about a guy who fragged his zoas then rolled a roll up and smoked it.. he was in hospital soon after😂
