@RyanHallYall - I read an article that said all clouds (except the lowest ones) rapidly dissipate in the lead up to totality, as the rapid drop in temperature causes higher clouds to retreat This was actually a recent discovery, and I’m wondering if you had a chance to read about it & factor that into a forecast somehow?

Drove from Marietta Ohio to McMinnville Tennessee for the 2017 eclipse. My wife and I had a picnic in a CEMETERY instead of going into town. Got a cloudless sky and it was one of the top 5 moments of my life. Skip the festivals and find a CEMETERY. Free parking, attendance and no crowds. We had a nice picnic and it was quieter, could hear the roar of the town at totality but we got to stretch our legs and have a nice picnic with hundreds/thousands of silent observers.

In north Louisiana, when I was in the first grade, around 1963, the entire class cried until it was over. Afterwards, all of the parents that could be called/reached showed up to pick us up. one big cloud for 15 minutes around totality "killed" my oberservation of the 1999 eclipse in Southern Germany, so I am painfully aware of the issue of clouds. Even for the 2017 I had a cloud move in within minutes of totality. Luckily it was just a wispy thin cloud, and seeing the red-glowing hydrogen in the chromosphere was all worth the travel. I live in the Southwestern Appalachian's of North Carolina and was present with all the locals and the tourists in Downtown Franklin. It was the very first time in my entire lifetime of seeing a Total Eclipse. My mother, who grew up in Maine, along the Canadian border, would tell me what it was like. So dark, that the chickens would go to roost and the cows would head towards the barn to be milked. They would use pinholes in paper back the to view the Eclipse. I have no idea when this Eclipse occured as she was born in April of 1921. But it fun to listen to her reminisce.

Went to TN to experience "The Great American Eclipse" in 2017. Was in the path of totality. Dark as night with full moon! Felt temps drop, crickets and katydids singing! Truly an amazing experience! The last minute to totality was incredible. Light dropped fast like in the movie theater when the house lights dim as the film is about to start. And then totality. Then as totality ends the diamond ring. Absolutely beautiful. And then it started getting brighter but the color was still very cold. Like it was a huge streetlight starting in the sky getting brighter. Everything was very blue-ish. We were blessed to have nearly perfectly cloud free day. So if you can get in the path of totality, go for it! It is absolutely worth it! I experienced the one in 1979 (Oregon) and it was overcast. Even though I was not in the path of totality, it still got dark enough to need headlights when driving and the streetlights came on. Just imagine a few hundred years ago when folks would be working in the field and it got dark during the day. No wonder they got down and prayed because surely they thought something really bad was about to happen.

This year I am blessed again to be in the path of the eclipse totality in Dayton Ohio. I will not have to travel further than my front lawn to see it. This will likely be the last one I experience because I am in my 60s now, So I will really cherish this experience one last time.

I live in the Houston area, while I was planning a trip to Waco, Mexia or Killeen, however reading and hearing about and poor traffic conditions from the 2017 event and all of the warnings from TXDOT concerning highways and roads in the “totality” zone, I’ll stick to my backyard, besides Houston will see some 95% totality, that's good enough for me. Even the FAA is warning about severe flight delays at airports in “The Zone” due to expected clogged road conditions.

Because anything can happen buddy. You've seen how much effort it takes to do huge concerts or political events, so the same has to be done with solar eclipses like these. AS LONG AS EVERYONE'S RESPECTFUL TO EACHOTHER, then no other incident will occur. Personally, I've told dad that we may have to travel someplace else if it just so happens to be cloudy in the place we'll be staying in the hotel and such.

There was a "big deal" eclipse in Florida in 1970, and i remember all the hoopla about it, and it was actually so far away from me I wasn't even _near_ totality. Idk if those silly teachers thought we were going to drive a couple of hundred miles just to watch it get dark for 3 minutes, but if they did, they didn't know my father.... I was about 60 miles from the totality zone in the 2017 one. It got a little dark for a couple of minutes. The shadows on the ground got weird. I'm old now. I don't drive any more. But I can watch it online like I did 7 years ago....
