This owner is a friend and my heart goes out to him on the loss of his wife. This is a spectacular survivor 70 Chevelle SS 396. I’m glad to be a friend.
May the woman who helped preserve this car and its memories rest in peace and may her husband and loved ones find peace. So sad and yet for this family, I'm sure it only makes the car and its memories more cherished. Excellent job documenting this car. Your videos are top notch and I look at them as a video class on the history of these great machines. Not everyone knows everything about these cars so keep teaching us like you have always done. Very much appreciated!
I know a gentleman named Ron D. that bought his 69’ 396 hugger orange Chevelle from working the family farm till age 16. I’ve owned my 71’ 454 hugger orange Chevelle since 89’. I believe once you have the best vehicle for you, you’ll never sell it.👍
What a shame the owners wife is not alive to witness your tribute to their chevelle, May she Rest In Peace and the drunk driver be held accountable. Beautiful car sir.
@Abraham Shekelbergstien Can you prove that with a link? The article plainly says; "To the memory of a loving wife and mother tragically lost in a car accident to a drunk driver in July 2018."
My father owned a '70 Chevelle SS (second owner) originally purchased from Scuncio Chevrolet in RI (454/450) same blue/white color with black bucket-seat interior and console. I remember sitting in the back seat (around age 7-8 with no seat belt on) when my father swapped seats with my mother one time on the side of the road. He said, "okay, just put it in first and release the clutch slowly", she said, "it's not moving", he said, "that's because the tires are spinning!" He always said that he regretted ever selling THAT car. He should have kept it. I still remember that event to this day - at age 54.
The real magic here is called a garage. A garage is the best thing to ever happen to any car. A garage is also the best extended warranty money can buy 2nd to preventative maintenance .
Now this is a car and owner who has my respect. It’s easy to store a car but as you said to enjoy a classic while keeping it in this kind of shape is outstanding.
amazing car it almost brought tears to my eyes at this gentleman lost his wife to a drunk driver I hope his wife rest in peace and God bless you sir that lost your wife I feel for you I pray for you my heart aches for you enjoy that amazing car you have that thing is so beautiful Don't Let It Go for less than a million dollars
These owners got to be extraordinary people...Patrick is right-to be driving this car for more than 130 K and keeping it in this such wonderful condition requires a lot of attention to service and taking care.Big thank you.
wow! did the exact same thing. Bourht the 70 SS June 74, dated and married in 76, served 21 yrs active in navy submarine force and still married to same gal. Raised 2 kids in that car, still have it all these yrs. wife drove it when i was at sea for 6 months, sitting in our garage now.
Patrick, It is a pure pleasure for me to watch your videos. These 70 SS Chevelles pull at my heart strings. Much like this particular situation, my father purchased a 1970 SS Chevelle new in 1970. I was 2 years old at the time and it was our family car driven daily (it was in fact our only car much through the 1970's). We had a family of four; mom and dad and my brother. I unfortunately was hit by a drunk driver in June 1983 while driving the vehicle on a Friday night with two buddies; I was 16 at the time. The car was t-boned and damaged significantly. We were OK, but in those days, the value of these things were nothing like we are seeing today. As a result, dad parted it out; engine/trans/hood, deck lid, etc. He was an auto tech and saving for our college expenses. The car was purchased new at Feld Chevrolet in Bridgeton, Mo. and was a KC plant car. Silver, black stripes, auto on the column, no air, L34, cowl induction, 3.34 posi rear end. My father is still alive and let him know about your videos. I will own a 70 SS Chevelle one day. It is part of my heritage. Sorry to hear about mother, wife, and loved one that was part of this car's history and the family! God rest her soul!
When I was a kid in the early 80s around 80-84 my friends mom drove a 70 454 ss chevelle, it was green metalic if I'm not mistaken with a white interior. We called it the rocket cause she could lift the front wheels. A few years ago we talked with her about it, she said she paid around 2k for it and at that time was alot of money for them. Nobody wanted them because of the fuel mileage. Around 1984 she bought another car and my father was going to buy it from her for 1000k a few days before the deal the car was stolen from her garage. Just thought I'd share.
Most people would never know how great of a cruiser this car is. 138,000 enjoyable miles and very well cared for since new. The high horse solid lifter cars need constant maintenance and really have one thing in mind,WOT! This truly is a family cruiser and very nice example. Excellent Video as always Patrick👍
Its nice to live in a dry climate. I bought a 70 Chevelle with SS stripes in Sept 1970, kept it 14 years in Michigan winters. It stayed real solid as it was Ziebarted the day I took delivery. In 1984 when I sold it, nobody wanted a 14 year old car. I finally sold it for $300, keeping the wheels and rings. Got them sand blasted and repainted, and sold them to a Camaro guy for $375. Wish I still had the car!
i was watching this video and then my heart sunk as I read your comment while you were speaking. God bless that woman in heaven. Appreciate your love of these great and awesome Chevy's. One of the best models bowtie ever built. Model had it all.
I had a 1970 SS 454 LS6...Basket case when I bought it. Started a frame off restoration, got married, kids, house, bills....yep, had to sell it before it was done. I was born in 1970 and would love to get another one in the near future.
Stay in touch my friend. The vast majority of my career centers around 70 Chevelles so I’ll definitely run across something you might be interested in.
@@patrickglennnicholsmusclec1674 Thank you so much. I'm gonna dig out my pics I have. I'm hoping I kept a copy of build sheet too. The original was in rough shape, but I put it back together the best I could and then had copies made. I know I have the cowl tag pic somewhere too.
My 70 Chevelle was same color 454 ,pearl white bucket seats ,Cowell induction, power windows ,air conditioning and hood pins ,good I wish I still had it ,I was told it's in the Chicago suburbs now
Patric your in my area. I know where this car is but will not list it. I show my vette at car shows and this gentleman does show it as a all original car. RIP his wife
I used to own a green 70 Chevelle. Bought from my uncle in 1980 but got rid of it in late 1982 after an accident. Wish I had kept it. If GM had any foresight they would it back to complement their sports car line-up along the Camaro and Corvette.
Brother in law's brother bought one in 1976. Green, black vinyl top, 4 speed. Car ran good. $575 drove it away. I bought a running 67 SS Chevelle. $450 in 1979.
Crazy. This video popped into my recommend and I know this car and family because I live only a mile down the very same road. I drive past every day. Man RU-vid is amazing sometimes. I too have a 70 Chevelle that my great grandfather bought new in Chicago. It isn’t as original now though. I pull it out of the garage on weekends and some week days. Anyways Sometimes he parks this car in the front lawn. Very beautiful indeed.
My college roommate got a freshly restored one of these 30 years ago- same engine and exterior color combo. Same Muncie shifter /trans & bench seat I think too. Only difference is the interior color. He still has it too! He’s amazed at how much it has appreciated in value over the years.
Great video...I just acquired a 1970 Buick GS from an eighty year old couple who’ve owned it since 1972, the gentleman drove it daily till 1996 , the vehicle has been garaged and not used since, the car has 105k and is in very similar condition of this car. Love the survivor cars!
Awesome car. I know they enjoyed it . Those lugs drove me crazy when I worked at an auto repair facility in the early 80's. My Trans Am also had them on the Pontiac Rally II wheels. What usually happened to them is that shops using the air guns to remove them would cause the covers to loosen. Then moisture would get between the cover and the steel nut and rust would make them swell. A poor design by GM that looked good but didn't hold up. We had to chisel many a cover off and then replace with a solid one piece chrome lug. No dealership or auto shop was going to take the time to remove these lugs by hand.
AMAZING VIDEO PATRICK.. THANK YOU FOR FINDING THESE CARS.. IT WOULD BE NEAT TO INTERVIEW THE OWNERS OF THESE ONE OWNER CARS WITH THE VIDEO IF THEY AGREED TO IT.. AWESOME THE GUY KEPT IT THROUGH THE YEARS AND RIP TO GIS WIFE
Greeting from Melbourne- Australia. Terribly sad the lady lost her life . Excellent video again Patrick- You Sir possess a wealth of Knowledge that we your subscribers throughly enjoy.
Hey Patrick Nichols you know I'm 55 years old I told everybody at the age when I was 14 and loved old cars that cars are going to be worth a fortune and they all laughed I used to find and had probably well over a hundred cars you got my job that I always wanted barn finds meeting people and talking love you videos congrats and PS you have a wicked wicked voice love your videos and your job keep it up John from Winnipeg Canada winterpeg
Very very nice. Another big factor is this is Tennessee - not here in the northeast where we plaster the roads with deicing agents in the winter. Agree that the owner was smart to not have the hood repaired. That original paint looks amazing.
Tho i was born in '71...I can still see these cars everywhere when i was a kid. Nobody then realized what their legacy would become. A friend of mine in high school got a nice '70 396 for $700. Yeah, it was totaled but was nice for about a month.
My first car was a 71 Chevelle with a 307 in it and I drove the piss out of it! They really are great cars. I can only imagine driving a 396 engine car! Whew! A real beauty, if you ever sell take it to a big auction house.
I wish the streets were full of these cars to this day, modern cars are just straight up boring to drive and boring to look at. Cars like these have soul.
Definitely, but they wer better then as to there wasnt as .any people on the earth and driving most cities nowadays r just conjested with traffic .Back in the day open rd to open them up .
Really enjoyed this review. This car is a twin to mine with 2 exceptions: 1) mine did not come with stripes and 2) mine has power steering. That is one beautiful survivor.
Reminds me of the couple from Orange Ca. Original owners called Jungle Rat, cause owner worked at Lion Country Safari, wife used to race it at Orange County Raceway. 70 SS Chevelle, still owns it also.
Like finding your videos on Chevelle finds. We still have our 70 SS, original drive train, engine, etc. Has about 60K miles now. We purchased Jan 26, 1972 used with around 10K miles on it. So had for 47 years. Red with black stripes L34, G80, G94, M21, A51, D88, F41, J50, U14, ZL2, Z25 and D34 for just a few listings plus. Have original build sheet and sales info from dealer. Lots of fun in our youth but few years ago had a frame off repaint. Now just car shows and even made a 1st in an AACA event. Keep finding them, fun to see the ones people kept for so many years!
I have a child from a 66 396 SS 4sp back in 1971. I don't have the car or the girl, but I still have the child around from time to time. Her middle name is Chevelle.
I Had a '72 Chevelle that I got rid of after I came back home from Army basic training back in 1994. I wish I had it back, I wish I could find it. I only hope that somebody has fixed it up, and it's at car shows these days. I wouldn't mind if it was on the drag strip just so long as it's not rusting away somewhere. If I had kept it I would have owned it for 29 years. Maybe I'll own another one someday.
American Capitalist looking for my dads 77 transam, pretty much the story of the car is almost like corvette summer. I have title for it any everything, documentation of him and his high school friends restoring it on some old film. Hope I can get it to him before he passes. I don’t even know if it’s even in this world but I can only hope. He told me he can still hear the sound of it to this day and would be able to identify it just on that.
lol, i have a friend, a woman, who bought a 1972 chevy Nova, SS, new, she has put over 200,000 miles, on it, orignal motor, transmission, automatic, its had one paint job, still runs, and is garage kept
I sold my 66 SS with a factory 402 CI, Dayna 12 bolt, M21 close ratio, and a low ratio steering box that I owned for over 23 years to buy a Camper on a 69 CST wood bed beauty. Bad move although that was the beginning of our camping family. We were always gone on weekends and went to Yosemite for 28 days. We would have stayed longer although a big storm was coming in .
Patrick, I highly recommend the owner buy new tires, last spring my wife and I took her father's 70 with 38k original miles and tires bought in late 80s that look excellent condition, had one come apart with no warning and thank God we were going only about 40mph and no damages to the car, and just a little early I had it up around 80mph for a little exercise and if that tire would have came apart then, it would have done irreversible damage. I took the car back home and put it in the garage and told my wife it's not going anywhere till it has 4 brand new skins. Long live the survivors 💪
the vintage tires make it a great piece, if it was me I would find another set of factory wheels and have them set aside if I want to drive it, put the vintage tires on it if you go to a show ect.
Your in my neck of the woods in West TN. That is a gorgeous Chevelle! It has an awesome story, but it broke my heart to see what happened to the wife. That is terrible. Love seeing my dream cars in all your videos bud. Keep em' comin!
I had a Black with White stripes and as I find out on this vid they made them in Texas also, I did know the Kansas City plant did, mine was that way too, kinda sloppy paint on striping, actually I had white paint splatter on the rear part of the top. The car had damage on the right front fender repaired but missing the fender molding which I noticed later. My Salesman and I drove to Lake Providence La. to pick it up around 250 miles one way. After all of the problems, I remember it as the most Beautiful Car I ever owned!!!
Love seeing cars like this that have been driven and the owner taking great care of them.My aunt had one like this which was cranberry red just like yours with a 396 and automatic,it was just a car to her back in the early to mid 80s,things have changed for sure.
My friend's dad down the street used to drive a 65 SS impala. It was white w/blue interior. No dents,No rust. It sat in their garage mostly. I remember it said 327 on the side,so it must've been a 327 car. He sold it back in the late 80's. I bet he wishes he didn't do that now. I had a 64 Grand Prix. 389 motor. I wish I didn't sell that car. It was in excellent shape. I sold it back in the early 90's.
That is so awesome it gave me shivers to think back and how many memories that couple and there family had with this icon of muscle cars ,my parents drove mopar and we wer raised with them driving a 72 special edition charger that we loved .Myself I fell in love with the chevelles as I was growing up and a bowtie guy forever .Awesome post thx for sharing .Sir I'm so sry for your loss of your wife ,may she rest in peace until you get to be with her again .
What a beautiful find Patrick I want it. I personally think this is one of you best finds yet. What that car worth. I miss my 70 Chevrolet. Again very nice original find !!!
Gearhead 6971 very beautiful unrestored one of a kind priceless car one lucky person I restored a 70 Chevrolet ground up not stock 572 620 HP I put 5 miles on it and parked it I had close to 45.000 in it not including a year every night working on it I have the no matching engine and trans LS5 454.
Dude that was simply amazing..you literally brought me back to the day..you do the best job with the camera I have ever seen..most enjoyable dude..God bless !!
watching the video thinking where is his wife. than i read the description. so sorry for your loss. its a shame its a rarity now for people to stay together for 50 plus years. and its becoming more common to hear drunk drivers kill again , and its always the good ones taken .. breaks my heart
I'd love the Chevy chevelle my Ann had a 1969 chevelle canary yellow she passed a away three years ago it was a great Chevy but i'v a 1992 Pontiac firebird. ,love the GM.
That's a beautiful Chevelle, nice job showing it. You sure know Chevelles. Very impressive! P.S. $100 bucks a piece for those lugs, are you kidding ? I think I have a few of those somewhere in the garage. Thanks for another great vid.
Patrick this is just flat awesome bro!! I have a 1971 Nova all original. Except a repaint a few years ago. A few aftermarket bolt ons. I have the protecto plate, original owners Manuel. Also have original spare tire and wheel!! Never been on the ground!!
OMG my dream car. I've wanted a fathom blue/white stripe '70 chevelle all my life! Hope I find one this nice someday! If I were to change one thing I'd do buckets instead of a bench but if a bench seat car is all I can find then I'll take it!
