Not only that but these are 14 year olds pushed to the breaking point time and time again, it makes sense that there would be a few times where they lost it over something small.
The Gods: “do you know what this is?” Percy: “uhhhh, that’s Bessie my pet sea cow?” The Gods: “This is the Ophiotaurus, it is capable of razing Olympus. And you named it Bessie?” Percy: *shrugs* “Doesn’t look like a Charlie or a Nick now does it?”
@@kadeisstuck8802 no i googled it she's 13 in season 1 and she turns 14 in season 2. i think they're 16 by the end of the show at that rate but they start out at 13
@@snowfire321 He started out the series by basing Percy on his oldest son, who was the same age at the time. So he really did have a good reference for that age...
Lol i remember when i was visiting the us for the first time reading this book, same age as the characters and rread this very scene on the car ride to the dam.💀I literally told my family we shouldn’t go to the Grand Canyon class bridge bc of this book lol
Favorite instance is in HOO when someone makes a metaphor about a leaking dam and percy grins like he's lost his mind and goes "We've got a dam hole," and everyone stares at him like "wut," and then he remembers that nobody who would get the joke is there.
Once we had visited a dam, (sadly not hoover dam in specific, god dam it) and i ABSOLUTELY wouldn't stop making these dam jokes to my brother who hadn't read the series 😂😂 he was so dam annoyed with me
Fr, like poor kid was the first to die in the series and Percy is 13. Like, did Rick just ignore that Percy should probably be grieving the loss of his friend while being at least a little disturbed.
@@JasTheSassPretty sure this _is_ their way of grieving. There's lots of people who respond to trauma by forcing smiles and making jokes, Percy is definitely one of those
@@wolfishpotato6978 Yeah, but you’d think that the other two wouldn’t have the same response. I get it’s a children’s book and all, but Nico was the only one who had much of a reaction.
I wrote Dam on my hand, went out in public, and at least 3 random people approached me and asked if it was a Percy Jackson reference. I love this fandom
Honestly the way the author actually realistically represented how unhinged and random kids can be, even in stressful situations, is part of why the series is so great 😂
@@TrueOracle True, I don't have a problem with it, but I know how overprotective/sheltering parents can be (partly because mine were veryyyy sheltering)
They brought the joke back in HoO and percy laughed at his joke and everyone looked at him as no one else in in those books is prominently in that quests and it was a funny call back i think it was in HoH if anyone is wondering
Literally love this chapter!! My friend and I were reading Percy Jackson and we were almost racing each other. I asked if she got to the dam chapter. Her face was priceless! She told me she didn't want to hear me cuss. I told her that she can't put the book down until she understands what I just said. 😂
This is the most 13/14 year old behavior And honestly I'm very glad Riordan knows how a early teen would act like. That is so far my favorite part with the group joking around.
2 things that made this scene all the more wild: 1. Zoë being absolutely out of the loop about what theyre laughing about 2. This is literally the chapter after Bianca died.
Every interaction Percy has with every God is great too, specially with Ares. Like he treats them soo chill, like, hey, they are gods. Every prophecy is good too. P.S. thank the gods someone is giving some recognition to Percy Jackson 😊.
Its so accurate tho. Its a buncha 13 year olds and the serious grumpy old lady (Zoe) just accidently said a swear. Of course they lose all control for a solid half a chapter. 😂😂
