- www.tcgplayer.... There hasn't been a deck like this since Nexus of Fate arrived in Standard. Bant Scapeshift is obnoxiously over-powering and broken. Consistent and annoying. I'm calling it now. Incoming ban! With 4 of the top 8 Standard decks from Grand Prix Denver being Bant Scapeshift, a ban is almost a sure thing.

Wrong they also lose out on the grow from ashes. Also this deck wouldn't be anything if people were expecting it. There are plenty of hate cards for cards like field of the dead. Alpine mountain and ashiok kill this deck.

This deck is actually more powerful and oppressive than these people think. They don't realize that Teferi +1 then using scapeshift at the end of your opponent's turn is how the deck really functions. With Teferi stopping all interaction at that point it's just GG. This guy is just really REALLY bad at piloting the deck. He had this combo many times and had the opponent dead, he just doesn't know how to utilize the deck. With all that said, I don't think any thing will be banned. Scapeshift will rotate soonish and if this deck continues to perform well the meta will shift to counter. However the biggest problem is that what would normally be two of your best answers to the deck, counterspells and aggro, Teferi stuffs them hard. So, it's really debatable if it needs a ban or not. It's not the combo itself that is oppressive, it's the tools around the combo that make it oppressive, that being mostly Teferi.

7 is the lucky number. 5 different lands and two field of the dead equals 10 2/2 zombies as early as turn 4 with the right draw.

As others have said, Scapeshift is what makes this deck busted and it's rotating in a couple months so we won't see any bans. It's gonna be a sucky Standard season.

I don't think WOTC cares about rotation time. If a deck is checking all the tabs for a bannable card, there is no doubt they'll put some attention to it.

Guys, it's fine. The deck rotates in September and loses grow from the ashes, elvish rejuvenator, and scapeshift. Scapeshift is viable in standard for the first time since morningtide and we only get it for a month. Chill.

I'd tend to agree overall. It's vulnerable to unmoored ego, which can be sideboarded in the #1 esper midrange deck. However, it's power level is absurd.

I think that's why they are trying to get brawl and pauper up and running so quickly. Your cards will rotate just like paper but I'm sure you'll be able to use them in the other formats available

They are adding a "Historic" format, which is similar to Modern. It will be Ixalan block and onward, similar to how Modern is 8th Edition and onward.

Those cards are mostly bad. Bc they play teferi to try and stop you from countering. And they don’t need scapeshift to win. And you are spending your board wipes to stop their zombies but then all they have to do is play a land which they have a lot more of then your board wipes and they get 1-4 zombies for that land. You run out of resources before they do. That’s why this deck wins.

The problem is land destruction decks aren't viable, so that won't happen. ONLY a tier 1 deck can answer other top decks. So if none of the land destruction decks can combat the other tier 1 decks, they won't be relevant enough to deter scapeshift decks. The only thing we'll see more are Field of Ruin, which can be played in most decks.

Teferi is the biggest problem with these decks. It generates tempo while shutting off interaction with a deck that's already pretty hard to interact with. The particular valid issue with this deck's win con is that he relies on land which is the hardest permanent type to interact with in standard unless you're Golgari. It's also versatile. You turn off the lands, you're still eating a giant Krasis or two. The ramp game is really strong right now, so having a combo deck that can double as ramp is particularly good.

Just fought someone that's using your deck. I demolished them with a calvacade deck. They got 17 zombies out by the end, but my chanda spitfire and light up the stage finished them off quickly. This is a pretty scary combo, though.

It's a tier 1 deck, but the reason it seems unbeatable is because no one was teching their decks against it. Unmoored ego, deputy of detention, alpine moon, ashiok render, golden demise w/go wide strategies. All of those are pretty good silver bullets. With my esper deck I just use T3feri in combination with deputy of detention and unmoored ego to end them.

Simple answer to the ban is T3 if you ban t3 standard becomes fun again and people can play magic again... if you played t3 properly you would have won much sooner and none of the matches would have been close... thanks for the great content as always...

The deck isn't broken as there are way too many ways to beat it. The game is getting faster and faster and taking 5 turns to threaten the board isn't that competitive unless its a new meta. Chandra Elementals eliminates its win condition entirely. Omni Flood should be on infinite turns before its threatened.. Agro decks beat it consistently. A match vs a Mono Red going second with no turn 1 play isn't exactly a decent representation of how it fares vs Agro.

I believe that would be possible if you managed to take the charge counters away from it, with a card like Vampire Hexmage, but in Standard

You would need something to remove the counter from like soul diviner(War of the Spark) and then activate blast zone

I don't mean to rain on this parade, but I've beaten this deck so many times now that I didn't even need this video to know the cards in it. When it works, it does work, but one turn kills or rush decks pretty much always counter it. I have a combo that wins on turn 5 if nothing is removed from the board.

Settle the wreckage after they Scapeshift into a cleansing nova leaves opponent with no land. Have done this several times. It's quite funny when they rage quit.:)

@Stefan Eisler Their deck works purely on fetching more land. Once they cast scapeshift once they will lose to 1-2 board wipes. Their whole win conditions is lands. Either destroy zombie generating lands or just let them fetch all of the lands in their deck.

I only think heavy control builds can counter this. Yes specific cards can reign fields of the dead in, but what do you do when you don't hit your blood sun, alpine moon, or unmoored ego before scapeshift hits? You have to have answers to the zombies or prevent resolution. You have to build around the deck, or build to prevent most plays. Unfortunate, but if you aren't building around field of the dead, you will lose to it.

Nah but they might have to ban Field, it's a powerful deck that will just keep getting more ramp with every set. Sure, it loses Shift and Grow with rotation, but with Teferi +1ing ramp out it won't be a big deal. Could even run Golos to make sure you get those Fields if you need, but the deck doesn't even have to run him.

I have 2 reasons why it won’t eat bans. 1 scapeshift is out in 3 months 2 if they ban fields hogaak is fully out of modern after losing both his token gens

DrVinylScratch 1.) You are absolutely correct. And the deck really isn't as oppressive as people make it sound. 2.) Standard bans do not affect modern in any way as the card would still be modern legal. Also Hogaak in modern doesn't run Field.

Hey I have a good addition to this deck that has worked pretty good for me in longer games (this deck got me to platinum for my first time ever). Replace the white enchantment with mass dominate. Since you tend to get 8 mana pretty quick if they get a fast start on you then you can nab their best 2 creatures and/or plainswalkers and that usually turns the tide against faster decks.

Definitely sideboard Unmoored Ego specifically for this deck. Can take out all those field of the dead, maybe throw in some field of ruin to destroy any on the field, assassin's trophy can take it out too, along with some expensive land destruction in m20. Honestly, there's enough answers that WOTC might not ban anything.

Due to rotation, probably Field of the Dead if there's something else that is out there for such combo. But most likely no ban at all. Unless... can they emergency ban like you mentioned? Then, of course they'd ban Scapeshift.

Hey joey!!! If you get a chance please try my original deck idea. It is not standard, but start with 4x gravecrawler 4x noxious ghoul 4x carrion feeder 3x graveborn muse 3x grave titan 2x endless ranks of the dead 1x army of the dead 3x heartless summoning Fill out the rest however you want. You'll want dark rituals and even bubbling muck if you can, and like exsanguinate. Sacrifice grave crawler to carrion feeder while noxious ghoul is on the board. Rinse and repeat..... nothing survives the -x,-x and you get massive feeders.

You can sac all the way down to your dead lands get back all your cards when they hit the field it will trigger all at the same time and you'd make way more zombies

Lots of people play Cry of the Carnarium but the zombie tokens will keep coming out and you can't hold them off forever. Also, Ashiok, Dream Render can shut down scapeshift

I have to respectfully disagree with the "toxic" comment. The deck is very good but it is far from broken. I agree it doesnt help that standard has very little ways to interact with the deck. IMO this deck is one of the best in standard right now but it is far from broken. but hey love the videos keep up the great work!!

Tbh as soon as scapeshift rotates out this deck will lose a lot of gas, getting one or two zombies a turn won’t really be a problem for green decks to overrun or control decks to deal with. The main problem is Teferi allowing Scapeshift to be cast at the end of the opponents turn and stopping them from Cleansing. It’s really not Field of the Dead that’s oppressive, it’s Scapeshift combined with Teferi. If you can’t suddenly summon up a hoard of zombies your opponent has no say in countering yeah it’s oppressive but without that it’s just like dealing with any other deck. If Field of Dead is really the problem we’ll be seeing a lot more cards like Field of Ruin and Assassin Trophy and the like that can deal with FotD if need be but don’t have to target just lands and not be dead draws in matchups not against FotD. I think the fact that it’s called Bant Scapeshift and not Bant Field of the Dead says a lot.

This deck is amazing tbh. Only ran into it a few times though. Also I run Field of the Dead elementals using Yarok/Risen Reef the Fields are honestly unfair as it isn't a legendary land. I'm close to changing it over to elemental control for that reason. Adding in a few black to get yarok on the field just makes risen reef and fields go insane.

I just played this deck on a budget with 2 Scapeshift and 2 Krasis and Gates and and tapped dual lands and it still went 10-0 in Singleton and I made so many errors too!!! I like the green creature from M20 that can return your graveyard to your hand here so you have more Scapeshift land fodder

I don't have the cards to make this version so I go to the Risen Reef elemental gang to make FOD jump off. It gets pretty disgusting rather quickly as your puking out elementals and lands and zombies.

unmoored ego, field of ruin, and assassins trophy can all hit field of the dead. other cards can help deal with it even if they dont remove the land like the three listed. no ban needed the meta is just going to shift.

it really doesn't matter what card they do ban because they are about to leave standard. With that being said the most logical card to be banned would be one that that's still going to be there after certain cards do leave like field of the dead.

Decks can adapt to it. Massacre girl kills it, time wipe, blood moon, etcetera. Best of one would be an issue but you can sideboard for traditional.

scapeshift is also kinda broken with omnath? 7+ draws and 7+ counters. evolution sage? proliferate 7+times. scapeshift in general is good for thinning you deck, and landfall. And it is banned this september. its not like they are adding these in a set together.

Nothing they can do about it? I mean, there are various answers in standard. LSV put a deputy of detention is his sideboard for a reason. As well as field of ruin, counterspells, unmoored ego, playing simic nexus, etc. Deck is good for sure, but there are plenty of answers.

I played against a version of this that used Golos, Omniscience, Drawn from Dreams, and Mastermind's Acquisition to get Samut from the Sideboard and give haste to all of those tokens from Field of the Dead.

So many people saying it wont get banned cause of rotation. I'm not sure Wizards will allow, we can all agree, "broken" deck like this to continue even that long. Because of this I plan to take a break from ranked for a few months cause there is no way I'm spending wildcards to fight it and I'm sure there is a large majority of players doing the same thing. That's not good for the game.

Ive started to use "Amulet of safekeeping" just because of these decks alot and aggro red, its a really underrated card, since black does not have any enchantments nowdays that gives tokens -1 -1, like the old days which is wierd.

Would be bad to blow your whole load then your opponent has some answer and you get screwed. But really the only thing you need to worry about would be Settle or Teferi +1ing some kind of board wipe.

Probably nothing gets banned since enough cards are rotating out in a couple months. Obviously Scapeshift which is what lets you drop FotD x4, some of the search, but also the crappy (but unique) M19 dual lands. Ixalan lands too, but i'm sure they'll have reprints or tweaked versions (more dual scry lands) in the next set. So a decent chunk is being rotated out, and you can't underestimate losing several of the unique lands for a gimmick deck like this. Tommik stops Scapeshift too.

Field of the Dead is the obvious problem. Scapeshift saw little to no play at competitive level before FotD came out, many tried to break that card without much success. FotD works even without Scapeshift, any type of ramping will make the mechanic completely unbearable for the opponent.

Game two, you should have just cast scapeshift at the end of the opponents turn and lethaled him on your turn. When you scapeshift at the end of their turn you sac all lands except field and fetch 2 other fields and other lands, boom win.

its quite a niche enchantment. Someone else suggested land destruction, but thats also quite niche. you can make a deck which counters that one, but probably doesnt beat anything else

I built a golgari land destruction deck a while ago that I’m confident would have a good match up against this, maybe with a bit of tweaking but I’d be confident of taking the win.
