Ordered immediately. I work from home and am part of a 24x7x365 organization. I can't be down and have been using hot spots on my phones when needed. But I live 1000 feet from a Verizon tower and this is gonna be GREAT. Thank you!
I have xFinity but do not use their router for my WiFi network. I have it pass through to a different router that I prefer and feeds through my whole house. Can I use this as a cellular back up for Internet still?
I have a question do you have any issues where your storm Wi-Fi interfere with your internet modem and cause you to look connection. I had to unplug mine because some of my devices will connect to the storm ready Wi-Fi and mess with my signal.
I was told by an in store xfinity rep that it's not really "unlimited," you have unlimited data within a 4-hour block of time starting from when the outage occurred. So, if you still have power, but your internet line gets damaged in a storm, you won't have unlimited data for days, it's just 4 hours total, per outage incident. So this product is useless for me. We had a bad ice storm and a tree fell on our cable line. we still have power, but have been without internet for going on a week now.
They don't tell you that your service is interrupted for 3 minutes before the Storm Ready connects. There is no continuous connection with no interruption. The speed is ridiculously slow. You're better off connecting to your phones hot spot during a down period. It's blazing fast compared to the 4mbps I was getting with the interrupted service.
It only lasts for 4 hours. What do we do after that 4 hours? Here in southeast michigan we lose power a lot and every time we lose power our internet goes out - last year it lasted 2-3 days sometimes. Will this device recharge itself after that 4 hours?
Get a solar-powered battery pack or a generator 4 hours is actually pretty decent for a battery backup running a modem, but they can't just magically re-charge themselves when there's no incoming power. Solar-powered battery packs usually charge via cable so they're always charged, then you can connect your storm ready device to it when your power goes out. It'll continuously re-charge it for a few extra hours. More importantly, you can re-charge it in just a couple hours during sunlight. If you're expecting more than 4 hours of power though, you need a generator and not a battery backup. I'm a network engineer for reference
Have one and been having problems with it every since I’ve had it. Had a problem with one and I’ve taking it back to get another one and the info from my old device is still on my account and they can’t get it off so I can connect the new device. So I’m stuck with a device I can’t even use. Anybody know how to fix this problem?
Anytime I have a power outage here (probably 2-3 times during the winter months) my phone and iPad stay online connected to cellular and those work without issue. I've personally never had a power outage and also lost cell service at the same time.
Depends on each cell site. Most have battery backup at a minimum, and a lot of them will have an automatic start diesel or propane generator on-site, which is tested weekly and receives fuel deliveries. Can't let cellular communications go completely down as emergency communications will be affected, and your network reliability takes a hit as well. T-Mobile, for example, doesn't install generators on all of their cell sites. Slower data speeds can be expected during a power outage, though, as the network will become very congested from everyone using it at once.
I can't even get it to connect, I went and got another one same problem You can't talk to a live person and the store couldn't help either. Just gave me another one.
No, but you can DIY your own solution if you really need a cellular backup connection. Fiber to the home networks will stay up during commercial power outages anyway as there is nothing that has to be powered out in the field, so you really only need a battery backup for your ONT and router in your home to stay online during a power failure.
What I used to do was I had a uninterrupted power supply I got from Amazon and it would just remain plugged into that the whole time and if the power ever went out it would start to draw the power from the UPS, instead of the wall outlet, you can get them for like under $40 or something like that
On any normal table that's near a window works. It's just like a cell phone - you'll have better reception near windows or in the open - and metal or thick walls can cause interference. I recommend using a comcast wifi boost pad 2nd gen with it to greatly enhance your Wi-Fi coverage though
Would not recommend it constantly cuts off all the time I have to restart and power cycle daily remove and read to app and even when I restart my gateway it doesn’t keep the WiFi on ever
Thanks, now that I understand it. Pretty impressive. We had a generac at our country home on the lake. We moved the larger genarac with no solar panels to our home, so with the storm router upnrorth now always has wi-fi. It’s a great idea. But Comcast prices are getting crazy Ty it was driving me crazy
This thing is a POS! I am an IT guy, networking guy! This thing has broken my wifi for the past 2 hours! It won’t activate all the way so now I have to hard reset my router and reconnect all my smart devices. Because none of them actually reconnect properly! Did you even try it or just BS for the Money!!!
