I tweeted "MALORT NOG" and now I must make it. Today on HTD we attempt to make this devil nog and a few other variations on the classic Egg Nog.
My friends at Curiada recently listed some new rums like Coconut Cartel’s Añejo Rum, we used their coconut rum in this episode and it is GOOOOOOOOOD. Also if you are looking for one more last minute gift for the holidays Curiada now has Gift Cards! - bit.ly/gregnogbottles

Every year, whenever I say "Happy Holidays", I follow it up with, "Boom! Another casualty in the War on Christmas. MUAHAHAHAHA!" If you mix up the letters in "Malort Nog", you can spell: "Mr Loot Nag" "Glamor Ton" "TRM Lagoon" All of which are clever names you can use to smuggle this Yuletime weapon into Christmas gatherings. Then some kid will look in a mirror and be like, "Nilbog is Goblin, and TRM Lagoon is just MALORT NOG!"

This is the kind of content that made me fall in love with this channel. I know you haven't done a lot of 'workshop' episodes (love it, want to see more of them btw), but this is close to the old formula-Greg shows us how to make a drink, shows his funny and genuine personality, gets a little drunk, and is very fun. Adding the experimental/workshop element is kicking it up a notch. In fact, I feel like there was a desire for these types of episodes back in the 'golden era' about a year ago before the 'Greg endures pain' era. Glad to see that finally becoming a thing. Edit: Greg, buddy, I want you to take care of yourself. I know you can't be drunk all the time. But when you drink, it's just magic on camera. I honestly think it's because your happy and excited side comes out, which also makes you more positive. Sober Greg is great, but he's also very logical and kind of pessimistic. Buzzed/drunk Greg full of energy and chaos and a flair for the dramatic. Again, take care. Thanks for the great content, and merry Christmas.

A couple of dollops of the batter, a healthy shot of Greg’s butter washed rum and some hot water all mixed together has become my holiday must have. 1 dozen eggs, separated 2 lbs powdered sugar 1 cup (2 sticks) butter, softened 1 teaspoon cream of tartar 1 teaspoon cinnamon 1 teaspoon clove 1 teaspoon nutmegs 1 teaspoon allspice 1 teaspoon vanilla Add the softened butter and egg yolks and whip until it is fully incorporated and a liquid. Sift and fold in 1 lb of powdered sugar into egg yolk and butter mixture. Sift and fold in remaining powdered sugar. Stir in the cinnamon, cloves, nutmeg, vanilla, and allspice. Beat egg whites with cream of tartar in a mixer until you have a meringue-like texture with stiff peaks. Gently fold the egg whites into the egg yolk mixture.

Yeah, that's why it's named that! Swedish Immigrants to the Chicago area wanted to recreate the bäsks/besks from home, and this was what they could make with the resources in the US. And since we don't have the same tradition of bitter drinks with fatty foods, it didn't really catch on outside of that community, though it's now becoming more nationally known as a regional curiosity/signifier of the breadth of one's drinking experience.

The real secret winner alcohol + eggnog combo is champagnog. I kid you not - the bubbles in the champagne lighten the nog and make for an exceptionally pleasant drinking experience. As a fellow nog-lover, I encourage you to give it a try. Also, surprisingly good throat singing, Greg. Bravo.

So, this episode was basically a light from the heavens for my eggnog-loving fiance. The idea that he could just...make eggnog in single-serving portions, using his bar shaker, had never occurred to either of us, since we were used to seeing the recipes for big batches of aged eggnog made from carefully whipped egg whites and meticulously frothed yolks with sugar, and all that business. It also produced something that I enjoyed quite a bit, and as someone who's definitely not much of an eggnog fan, that was a surprise. It made for a much lighter, silkier drink than the things I'm used to (as in, the abomination in a carton), and is now yet another in the long list of creamy, sweet drinks I enjoy. Our first experiment was essentially an old fashioned-nog, since we have rye and angostura in abundance, and it was delightful.

Waterloo Antique Gin. I would LOVE to hear your opinion of it, but more relevantly I think it has a very "eggnoggy" smell to it already, and I like to describe it as "tasting like Christmas". I've mixed some in store bought eggnog and it's been VERY good.

Malört is the swedish word for Wyrmwood, if that helps! While the Drink was first made in Chicago, it was made by a Swedish Immigrant ^_^ Hence the name, there's so many interesting drinks from the US, that have that really neat, Immigrant history to it, where they tried to make something from home, and then it was changed over time or just with what they had available to fit more in with the customers in the US. ^_^
