I was gonna say! Because the hilt itself has a D-Ring, so you don’t need the vertical clip to hang the whole saber. But with the two pieces they give you, you can wear the hilt while it’s separated just like Kanan does!
Kanan was one of the only characters I liked from Star Wars Rebels. Glad to see his legacy lightsaber is finally out for 1 and does its 2 piece thing like in the show
During the Empire’s reign, it was treasonous to publicly wear a lightsaber, and only the MOST elite and rich (and most trusted by Palpatine) in the galaxy would even be granted permission to simply own or display a lightsaber in their home. After Order 66, Kanan had to modify his lightsaber, so he could keep it on him at all times, but not be a functioning lightsaber when separated. If imagine that the hilt acted like a small carrying compartment or handheld flashlight/fusion cutter, and the emitter likely served as some sort of handheld radar dish for comms. That way, if any Imperials widened up to him wearing those pieces of tech on his belt, Kanan could show them that they were simply little tools that he kept with him. It’s the equivalent of people in our world carrying a small, retractable, electric fly swatter, and a portable charging brick for our cell phones, but then being able to make a taser that’s powerful enough to kill someone. You wouldn’t normally assume that a Cellphone Brick and an electric fly swatter could be combined to be used lethally, so why bother checking?
I’m still working my way through The Clone Wars and haven’t started Rebels yet. Can someone tell my why he keeps his lightsaber in 2 pieces? Or is it just cuz it looks sweet?
