When Sabine Wren gets stabbed through the gut with a lightsaber in the Ahsoka series, it raised a lot of questions about why she didn't die?
"Do lightsabers even work anymore?"
"Did Qui Gon die for nothing?"
In this video we go in depth on the logistics of getting stabbed by a lightsaber and why you shouldn't be able to survive this without some life altering consequences. Now stop reading the description and watch the video so you can tell me what you think when you're done!

@privatezeron It is established that hatred and anger, if one is dark side force user, can keep them alive. Vader and Maul are great examples. In legends there was also Darth Sion who was just too angry to die, and died only after finding inner peace (He is legends, yes, but this property is still canon). Qui-gon has none of it, death makes sense, Reeva and Grand Inquisitor... maybe, they use dark side, and we know Reeva has a lot of hate, just not sure if they had enough power for it, all in all their force was pretty weak... but it is possible. Sabrine and Finn? No, like... just no. And Kylo would have probably been dead were Rey not learned from Jedi knight Jedi academy and unlocked the force heal.

@@user-fw8ry1tq4y Honestly a sith being extremely emotional- Or heck we'll say force users in general if we count anakin [He wasn't trained by the sith...Yet] Seems to mean they'll probably survive if they cling onto that emotion. Vader just lost his wife, was just betrayed in his eyes, and left for dead. His emotions are burning hot angry. And even then, he was put back together by palpatine later. Maul created a genuine hateful bond of Kenobi, an obsession with kenobi. Ashamed and defeated in the moment by Kenobi. And even then he only clung onto survival and fell into madness. Most other surviving incidents involve limbs being lopped off, and generally those incidents include the person having to be saved, because their now missing a limb. Luke was arguably made of iron more then his father was, Because Luke clung onto for dear life afterwords and was still conscious, while anakin basically just went down. Here, a mandalorian who played at being a jedi got stabbed by, my assumption here, a fallen jedi(?) she basically just met is. Less impressive. Especially since we saw the lightsaber wiggle a bit in her. Honestly? The better show writing could have been wearing some mando bits on her, to both seed the fact that she hasn't abandoned her culture entirely, if only for practical reasons. Or for having some Beskar between her and a lightsaber blow for this exact reason. Heck you can have it be a small amount so it 'slowed the saber down' and 'prevented your entire kidney from pulling a qui-gon'.

I think the most egregious part about Sabine's stabbing is that the lightsaber pivots while it's inside her, which means that the end of the blade coming out of her back would have sliced a few inches up through her liver and right lung. She should in no way have survived that.

Light saber wounds are not fencing wounds Disney. It's so easy to cut everything like a butter. Once you stab something, how could the user resist the temptation to ignore swinging it more and just pulled it out.
@cyber_xiii3786
@cyber_xiii3786 4 месяца назад
The biggest problem I have with lightsaber stabbings is that moving a lightsaber through flesh should be the same as moving a spoon through water. Any little movement would slice more and more. I’m sure the most trained fighters could make a clean stab in and out without little wobbles doing more damage, but it seems EVERY instance of lightsaber stabs works like any other sword/blade where the saber is embedded in the spot it stabbed through rather than going in and cutting sideways as it’s inside due to the person falling over or something similar. The sabers should be going through bodies like a hot knife through already warm butter, not a sword getting stuck inside its victim.
@SharkMako
@SharkMako 3 месяца назад
Seems like lightsabers do give some form of resistance when it comes in contact with something for whatever reason and honestly I like it like that, it doesn't have to make sense nor conform to our logic of what would feasibly happen because it looks cool. Think Yoda's awesome clone kill when going back to the Jedi temple really the lightsaber should've gone right through the clone but looked cooler not doing that. Basically looks cool and it'd look a little silly if it cut everything like butter think of those skits where someone drops a lightsaber and it falls through the floor or something similar.
@artcory6224
@artcory6224 Месяц назад
I think that sabers have some reaction on matter, for example ,when someone breaks iron door, with lightsaber, you can see, that it doesn't go absolutely easy, person still gives some pressure on saber to cut through , of course, body is much simpler to cut , but at least a tiny reaction will be, and I think that is the reason why lightsaber users perform stronger hits at enemy, when cutting them

Qui-Gon should only be the exception because of how long he survived. He managed to live out the entire duel, but anyone else from the Clone Wars and Revenge of the Sith died in seconds instead of minutes. Qui-Gon should represent the extreme end of how long someone can survive a stab. Edit: To all of you saying "Maul lived", I think he should be one of the only if not the only exception. What's always been weird to me about a LOT of lightsaber stab wounds is the person doing the stabbing doesn't wrench the thing in any other direction other than directly OUT. Like, I understand seeing that full frontal would make Star Wars rated-R but like, logically speaking that's what they'd do to make sure their opponent is finished off, especially now that lightsaber stab wounds apparently aren't guaranteed to be fatal.

I read somewhere that Disney exchanged cut off limbs for dramatic stomach stabs, and I think it’s very accurate. There are an infinite number of possibilities for how to hurt someone with a lightsaber without killing them, but that wouldn’t be suspenseful enough. Honestly, when was the last time someone had their hand cut off? It’s a Star Wars staple!

One of the rebels got decapitated in Episode nine. The last time we see him, his head was thrown onto a table.
@xaayer
@xaayer 8 месяцев назад
This is 100% correct. Here is something I wrote up to respond to a different person's comment (who said that the old movies didn't have much lightsaber action/deaths) in a different video about the live-action pre- and post- Disney.: - Episode 1: The Jedi mainly fought droids so if you count those droids, then a lot but if not, I don't know how you forgot about Maul (who came back via Dark Side dedication) and Qui Gon Jinn. - Episode 2: Again, they were mainly fighting droids, but yes Jango did die this way, as did a BUNCH of Geonosians as well as the two insects Zam used and the Ackley beast in the arena (they technically count as they were alive). And who could forget that Anakin literally massacred a whole village of Tusken Raiders? We see him kill three, but when he talks to Padme, it is clear that he killed way, way more. - Episode 3: Dooku, Kit Fisto, Agen Kolar, Saesee Tiin, Commander Gree, and a number of other clones, younglings (off-screen but heavily implied), and more droids. Also, Anakin pulled an Anakin and massacred the Separatist leaders, too. That's what happens when you fight a war against droids, the main casualties are droids. - Episode 4: Obi Wan. It's the start of the franchise, give it a break. Moreover, the lightsaber was supposed to be a mystical weapon that was to be used sparingly. It was only in four scenes: showing Luke his father's saber, Obi Wan saving Luke in Mos Eisley, Obi Wan beginning Luke's training, and Obi Wan fighting Vader. 4 scenes: one ends in bloodshed and the other ends in death. - Episode 5: Wampa alone. There is only one lightsaber in Star Wars at this point and it's in the hands of an inexperienced late-aged padawaan in the middle of a war. Of course, there won't be many deaths. He isn't instantly perfect with it. He isn't Rey. - Episode 6: We see 12 on screen deaths from Luke's saber on Jabba's barge with many more implied as he fights his way to the droids and his sister. Then, we see him kill a scout trooper on Endor with it. From there, Luke is with Vader and the Emperor where he wins the duel against his father but refuses to kill his father. That's a lot of deaths. Keep in mind the context of the movies, too. The prequels saw the Jedi primarily fighting droids, not organics (except for the geonosians in Ep 2), so we ignore those deaths usually because we don't see droids as sentient (even though it is demonstrated that many are). But if you do count droid deaths, Episode 1 starts off with 19 deaths to a lightsaber within the first 10 minutes. The whole PT is set at the height of Jedi power, so we see a lot of Lightsaber action and a lot of deaths at the blade of the lightsaber or as a result (i.e. reflected blaster bolts + counting Mace since otherwise Mace had Palps on the ropes) In the OT, there are no Jedi and the lightsaber is a relic and scarce. Its use isn't to be flashy as in the PT but to be important and show that the problem being faced is one only the lightsaber can handle. For most of the OT, the lightsaber is primarily used in combat in Ep 6. In Ep 4, the saber sees combat twice and both times it draws blood: one removed limb and one death - This set a precedent for the saber that Disney seems to now ignore. Ep 5 we see a removed Wampa limb and Luke's hand gets lopped off. We also assume the Wampa death. In Ep 6, we see the Lightsaber returning to full form as Luke is a new Jedi Knight finishing his training and he kills. A lot. He also cuts off his father's hand. Limb and death. In the PT we've already gone over the deaths, but what about the second hallmark: dismemberment? Maul is cut in half, Jango loses his head, Dooku loses both hands and then his head, Commander Gree and his companion lose their heads, Mace loses his arm, Anakin loses his hand... then his other arm and both legs. It's beautiful chaos as it shows the destructive capability of the weapon. And that's not even touching the 3D Clone Wars and Rebels series which saw a number of dismemberments, specifically beheadings. What do we have in the Disney Trilogy? - Ep7 has Han die by being stabbed in the gut like Qui Gon and he dies. We have Finn stab a stormtrooper in the gut and he dies. Any dismemberment? No, just superficial cuts on Kylo and Finn at the end of the movie. - Ep8 Snoke is killed by being cut in half, so at least there's that. Other than that, we have that shitty fight scene where most of the guards are stabbed in some way. One gets his neck slashed which would have been perfect for a beheading, but no. Head stays on the body and everyone else dies from being stabbed in the torso except for the last who is stabbed in the head through his faceless helmet. Rey gets a papercut but other than that, she is unscathed. - Ep9 No idea. I skipped 8 after the leaked gifs from overseas came out and showed what a travesty it was so I never watched 9 nor do I intend to. For me, 6 was the final movie. But watching a few clips of Ep9, looks like Kylo gets stabbed in the gut along with a number of royal guards. Are you sensing a trend? Disney doesn't understand the lightsaber. It either slashes someone and leaves a burning mark or that person is stabbed in some way, usually in the gut. Gut stab isn't bad, it's best used when the person being stabbed is important and needs to say something. Think about the prominent gut stabs in Star Wars history and what they have in common. Aside from the victims all being close to Obi Wan, the method of death adds impact to the moment - sort of a punctuation; and they all have something to say, a final word before they perish. Satine dies in Obi Wan's arms, Qui Gon dies giving Obi Wan final instruction, Maul dies finally at rest seeing eye to eye with Kenobi but still struggling for retribution. Disney got it right with Han (in that scene, not with his character as a whole), but past that it has become almost a meme. There's a reason there are a myriad of videos calling out Disney for not taking the lightsaber seriously anymore. So when you say "Barely anyone actually died to lightsabers pre Disney. On hand: Jango and Dooku. Three Jedi masters by Palpatine, old Ben Kenobi. That’s pretty much it for the original films." You are being quite disingenuous and are missing the point of the criticism leveled at Disney. My friend, who is a lifelong star wars fan and even enjoys Disney Star Wars, even says he wishes they would do something more adult because the shows all feel too PG and the lightsabers feel more like clubs than actual dangerous swords of superheated plasma.

Heck, why not a glancing hit off the beskar (generally considered at least highly resistant to lightsabers) that skids off at an angle and shallowly digs into an unintended spot that isn't protected by the beskar? Or perhaps heat conducting through from continued contact burning the person behind the plates? Neither outcome is likely to outright kill, but the maiming is certainly getting someone out of the fight soon enough.

If they want to bring a character back or keep them alive, you need a damn good reason to. Darth Maul was sliced in half and brought back, but very few people cared because it made sense for his character, as the Sith made it clear that anger could give them a LOT of power throughout the series. For a Jedi or light side character to survive, they need just as good/lore-accurate of a reason to survive, otherwise it’s just boring.
@merlith4650
@merlith4650 4 месяца назад
Not to mention the amount of hoops and restrictions lore-wise Maul had to jump through to pull that off: - only got sliced at the hips, missing his centre mass - using training and knowledge specifically handed down from the Sith lineage (Maul stating to Darth Sidious he used his training to stay alive) - going through a process that rendered him insane, leaving him living like a wild animal for years. - only managed to have his mind and conscience restored back to normal through a complex ritual done by Mother Talzin herself

i feel like what they could do with a jedi/light side character to survive a lethal blow is to have the power of insane calmness/meditation to keep themselves alive, but as a set back, they lose their emotions/empathy and pain, and will have phycological issues until extensive therapy (which won't cure them %100). that way, there are stakes to never try it again, as them attempting it again will result in uncurbable emotional unresponsiveness/psychological issues.

Shit was chopped up, droids, hands (multiple hands), heads and bodies were sliced and diced. Impalement was death and a slice was near guaranteed fatality. I think the worst part in the case of Rey v Kylo is that it takes away the impact of her mistake. She didn't want to kill Kylo, she wanted to save him, and by killing him out of anger she failed in that goal, briefly giving her an actual character flaw. Then the force feels bad for her I guess and gives her the ability to reverse her mistake instead of learning from it.
@philippeamon7271
@philippeamon7271 5 месяцев назад
The edit suggests it was Leia, who felt bad for her. But it's still reminiscent of Obi-Wan tripping on his shoelace and falling into a pit, before the fight with Maul. As a reminder. Then when he's in the other pit, he's like, "yeah, okay, that's why I was "clumsy".... okay Force, I'm ready to Yeet outta here, give me the prompt!" and Anakin destroys the Control Ship and insect face dies, and then, Obi-Wan gets the prompt. If the confrontation with Vader and the Emperor really happened the way Luke says it did (he didn't bring droids, because he knew he didn't want there to be evidence of what would happen), then surely, that too, must have been the Mortis Gods taking pity on him, and deciding to protect his self-important feelings, so he could keep pretending that his dad was an awesome, super friendly child murderer.

Dont get me wrong, i really like CW. But it has some flaws. Bringing Maul back for the sake of attracting attention with an iconic but dead character wasnt needed. Even if we assume a light sabre is so hot that on contact with flesh, there’s a constant film of steam isolating to so it won’t rapidly heat up tissue beyond the wound, which is definitely a real phenomenon. There’s also the issue of how do you remove the sabre exactly back out the same wound, while the victim is falling over. Seems like one wrong move you could chop the torso open in half. The least they could do is have the sabre user immediately turn off the sabre so they can’t cause more damage trying to remove it.

@@solarissv777 Well, that's the point where i would disagree. While one would assume that a Lightsaber should instantly burn your organs, there are scenes in the movies or animated series like "Clone Wars" where someone holds a Lightsaber right next to the other person's face without this person having his face burned away immediately. In my opinion, those weapons are in fact very hot but very precise at the same time and the heat or burn radius could therefore be very limited. It would also depend on how long someone or something is directly exposed to the "blade". For example sticking the blade into a thick metal door to melt it like in the movies takes some time and stabbing someone for a few seconds could cause far less damage in terms of severe burnings. On the other hand i think, if you really would want to look at it from a realistic and scientific point you also had to consider the type of material and heat transfer. I am sure in reality you couldn't even hold such a weapon because of the extreme heat radiation but that's just my guess on it. Where i do agree is the point that wounds caused by a weapon like this should cause more damage then what was shown and at least have temporary consequences for the person who got stabbed.

"An elegant weapon from a more civilised age" I believe is the quote Obi Wan said and I think was intentional as many many times we have seen analysed and showcased not just in the films by George Lucas but also everyone else who can see for themselves and understand the way Anakin and Obi Wan fight with Lightsabers is elegant and precise. The way Luke fights is unrefined and full of 'hate' or anger just like Darth Vader and the Emperor urges him to give in to it which he resists. Seeing Rey fight like that in episode 7 makes sense as she had no training or practice (the fighting style and rough nature of it, not the fact she beat Kylo Ren lol) and I'm sure training with Luke we would see by episode 9 she would still have kept some of that raw power and 'balance' in both precision and power. Lightsabers feel very lazy now but not lazy in the right way. They should be seen as a very powerful 1 hit kill weapon so you can be very very very patient to get the right attack in as opposed to a few good hits. They feel like shovels the way people prod and poke with them and the weight behind them in the newer movies feels so off.
@guts60

If the stab wounds only cauterized themselves with the blade’s heat, it would totally be survivable if stabbed in a spot that isn’t fatal otherwise… however, lightsabers can cut through thick durasteel slabs like butter, relatively. You can bet your arse that a stab will not just cauterize the wound, but cook your insides and fry your immediately nearby organs almost instantly. Looking at where the saber stabs usually are in Star Wars, I can safely say that one of their lungs, stomach, and heart are cooked to a nice well-done. Lungs is less important, a person can survive and live a full and normal with only one lung (especially if you get it so young that your other lung grows to compensate), but you can safely bet that their major arteries, their stomach, their heart, their intestines, one of their kidneys (also survivable actually), and their liver (if hit on the correct side) are all burnt to a crisp and made fatal.

Instead of stabbing Sabine, they should have done what Dooku did to Kenobi. In Attack of the Clones, Dooku simply delivered a glancing blow to Kenobi and poked his leg, both were enough to put him out of commission for the fight, hell Dooku barely touched Kenobi yet the slightest hit flung his arm and leg back and he was down. I could MAYBE see surviving a lightsaber stab wound if it was like, the blade was sent out and immediately retracted. Because if it missed organs, maybe it could cauterize as it went and disappear immediately. But when they hold the blade inside of them? Like every second its in there, its baking them. Honestly we should see their flesh igniting and burning to ash around the blade like the metal door melting around Qui-gon's light saber. There is no universe where the body could survive that. Your organs start shutting down if your core temperature gets above 104 degrees. I think the residual heat of the lightsaber sitting inside of someone would cause total organ failure, even if they managed to miss the organs with the strike itself, given the blade is left in there for 5 seconds while they look into each others eyes

There’s no bouncy movement, but there’s no heavy and forceful strikes. It feels like they’re treating the sabers as if they’re fragile. In Ahsoka, I feel the narrative impact of Sabine's lightsaber wound would have carried more impact if it wasn't through the gut but instead a strike that took off her legs at the mid-thigh. That way it could run parallel to Anakin's injuries that furthered his transformation into Vader and given Ahsoka an actual reason to meet Anakin in the World between Worlds. Imagine, the guilt of her own Padawan losing her legs would push her to the breaking point, in which Anakin steps in to give her that final lesson she needs to learn. It's narrative impact is palpable, it has deep seeded repercussions on the characters involved, and it makes for good character development that can further enhance the story. Considering how much further artificial prosthetics are in Star Wars than real life it wouldn't have drastically altered the flow of narrative too much either, but would still have had greater impact.

The problem is that people compares Vader stabbing Galen to Sabine being stabbed. The difference is Galen took months to recover in the novelization. Sabine should have taken weeks if not months to even be talking again. The novelization explains this so really it's different: “This is the Empirical, master, Lord Vader’s top-secret mobile laboratory. We’ve been here for six standard months.” PROXY looked up from the terminal. “Lord Vader has updated all of my protocols. Before I kill you, I am to do everything possible to help you vanish. Should I ready the Rogue Shadow for launch?” The apprentice tried to think. He flexed his hands, marveling at his amazing return to health. It seemed almost too good to be true. A disconcerting thought occurred to him. He hastily tugged off first his right glove, then the left. He was reassured to see only skin beneath-no synthetic materials or artificial joints. His knuckles moved the same as always; his fingernails were neat and even. The only odd detail was that his scars were gone. He rubbed his right hand down his chest to his stomach, remembering the terrible wound his Master had inflicted. He thought of the damage raw vacuum did to human lungs. Bacta tanks performed miracles, but they weren’t that good. “Master?” He looked up at PROXY and blinked. “What? Oh. I didn’t realize the ship was here, too.” “Yes, master. How else would we get away?” The droid stepped back from the terminal. Indicating it with a hand, he said, “I’ve accessed the main ship’s computer and begun carrying out Lord Vader’s orders.” The apprentice nodded, distracted by a thought that had just struck him. He had been on the Empirical for six months, PROXY had said, but the Rogue Shadow was here, ready for him. That might not be the only thing to survive the near catastrophe of the Emperor’s intervention.

I feel like what "worked" about Chewie's "death" was perspective. The magical phrase of Star Wars "What I told you was true, from a certain point of view." It allows us to make assumptions and be amazed when we discover we were wrong. If they want to do lightsaber fakeout deaths they should do it in a way that leaves the fate unknown to both character and audience so suspense is maintained. Imagine setting up a duel between Sabine and The Dark Apprentice, where we see the initial activation of opposing lightsabers, then we intersplice the action with Ashoka's racing to join her padawan, but at the climax of the fight, we see Sabine take light injury followed by another, still fighting she attempts to push her opponent back but fails to connect with the force. The Dark Apprentice charges at her, and as the music fades we shift to only Ashoka's POV to see the outcome. Sabine is on the floor a lightsaber stab just off to the side of her stomach her attacker left her there to die, certain the stab would instantly end her even if she didn't stab her in the heart or other organs. Sabine, unmoving, is examined by Ashoka upon seeing the wound she notices that Sabine stuffed the wound and held on not with rage but with the hope her master would come save her. Living long enough to be taken to a medical droid and healed. It's not perfect seeing as she still gets stabbed, but the inexperienced attacker made mistakes and arrogantly believed in their ability and left. It plays on our belief that a stab wound would instantly kill no matter where or how they are stabed, this way a death like Quigon is validated by the skill of Maul and his acceptance of fate to let go and trust Obiwan to succeed in defeating his enemy. If they did their fakeouts like this then Anakin not instantly killing the youngling due to internal doubt or other reasons lets her live on and hate enough to survive. Changing the perspective from: we see Sabine get stabbed, to we don't know her fate until Ashoka arrives and pieces together what happened, I feel gives a bigger impact while doing less.

Even Stormtrooper bolts to the gut are instantly lethal in the original and prequel trilogy against most armor. That's what they should use as the basis for lethality: if you don't have armor and get hit somewhere important, you're gone. And even Beskar is not a substitute for cover and evasiveness. Boba and Jango didn't get shot much even though they could tank some pretty good hits, so they need to avoid this invincible one man army thing Din Djarin and Paz Vizsla keep doing. The Armorer did her best to avoid getting shot in the first place by attacking from behind and being evasive as best she could. Don't even get me started on helmets. Any time I see a Mandalorian fight without a helmet I yell at the screen "always wear your helmet... just shoot him in the face..." Just do the "inside the suit" thing they did for Iron Man if you want to show their expression or sate the actor's ego.

Worth mentioning; while helmets do protect against shrapnel, there was a lot of time in medevil history where you wouldn’t want the helmet on/visor down. Namely in situations where awareness is really important. Wearing a helmet deprives someone of so much information, both sound and visually, that it can put someone in a really bad situation. It’s often why Din is getting shot so often; he just isn’t able to respond to the world around him due to it all being muffled. There’s a reason we generally don’t cover the face that often in modern war gear. Maintaining awareness is far more important than minimal protection, except in the circumstances where protection is really important. A SWAT team only has to worry about clearing a building; so they are probably much more heavily armoured they are dispatched to deal with a single problem, they don’t have to worry about hiking 3-5 miles on patrol. So to me it’s more weird that Mandos put their helmets on so often; and actually Din getting shot to shit makes a lot of sense, because everyone else has a better sense of awareness. Ironically, in replying I’ve learnt something new. All a helmet has to do is deal with heat effectively, blaster bolts just don’t seem as forceful. Just; most armour doesn’t seem capable of stopping a bolt anyway.
@jtnachos16

Just going to point out: Neither Fett had proper Beskar armor. They had either plasteel or durasteel armor (IDR which off the top of my head. One of the boba fett books where he is a kid and helping Jango maintain his armor after a mission has Jango mentioning not relying on his armor to save him and also specifically explaining that he doesn't scrub his armor clean or polish it because he WANTS the armor to not be shiny and draw attention). Which is nowhere near as capable of dealing with blaster bolts as what actual Beskar is. Din Djarin, going off of even pre-disney lore, could quite literally throw hands with a lightsaber armed opponent, and so long as he caught every attack on a plate, he'd have nothing to fear from the lightsaber itself. He'd still likely get bruised up or possibly even broken limbs from the impacts, but it wouldn't cut through. This is why, if you look at, for example, KOTOR mandalorian armor, it is much more covering overall and also tends to have some protection for soft spots like the throat and underarms. Kotor also has an overabundance of personal energy shielding, precisely because lightsabers and other such implements were a lot more common to encounter, as well as open conflict being generally more frequent in that time frame. Din Djarin surviving stuff is just fine. His suit is full beskar. The armorer's was not. Din is also in a different TYPE of suit from what the Fetts, the Armorer, or the vast majority of mandalorians wear. His suit has better coverage, thicker plates, and is generally just more of a heavy assault suit. It's like comparing someone in full interceptor body armor against somebody with just a soft-body vest. Mandalorian tends to make up for Din's durability by way of having OTHERS around him that he cares for be more at risk. I also agree with the 'no helmets off during combat' thing. They don't even have to show internal shots, just set up some choreography to show off BODY LANGUAGE. You don't need to see their face when their bodies tell the tale, let alone when you also have vocalizations, even things like non-word grunts, able to show off the same things. Taking helmets off is especially stupid in star wars context because mandalorian helmets, unlike the cheap stormtrooper ones, DO NOT restrict field of view.

The most accurate portrayal of a lighsaber stab would be if the target was literally detonated after a brief moment. The water in the blood of the human body would boil near-instantly, then the steam would be burned off from the sheer energy, igniting the Oxygen and Hydrogen. Rising steam and temprature from the newly inserted sun would cause any blood not burned away to boil, rapidly building pressure over the entire body, causing internal organs to collapse, and surface blood vessels to explode, launching scalding hot blood and steam like a Hollywood special effect, killing everyone within a 10 foot radius from 3rd to 4th degree burns. But Star Wars isn't rated R, so death works fine as well

"Armor" has always been a little baffling to me in Star Wars. Scenes where it was shown to have saved someone can be probably counted on one hand. Most of the time people survive because the blaster shot went nowhere in the same post code. The rebels arguably had the right idea by not wearing much armor to save costs, it's not like it would've saved them anyways when Stormtroopers come boarding your ship. Funnily enough people are instead much better at shooting Jedi because they actually have to spend a lot of time blocking. Then we got Beskar which can apparently just tank most things? Where's the middle ground?

I didn't know she was even a main character, I've never heard of her, but I just knew that a stomach shot meant nothing, and couldn't figure out why the Sith lady wouldn't have like, decapitated her. Personally I'd like to know how she regrew the 3-5 vital organs that got obliterated (the Obi-Wan Criticizes series did an awesome job as usual making fun of this) - but "I'm a tough Mandalorian" seems to be enough. LIke at this point if I was a Jedi/Sith and I wanted someone dead, I wouldn't leave the scene until I'd watch every atom of their body vaporized with a thermal detonator, and even then I'd throw a second one at the vapor just to be sure.

I agree with this. However I propose a different point of view, for Vader specifically. We KNOW Vader ain't sloppy. If he wants you dead then you are dead. So what if Vader, after humiliating her in that duel, intentionally delivered a non-fatal stab? To make her life a traumatized hell that he killed her not once but TWICE. That she now also has to live with the fact that her life is so worthless to him that she isn't worth killing with HIS lightsaber but it isn't even worth killing her with HER OWN lightsaber. He took her life from her TWICE and she will NEVER EVER be able to get justice or revenge on him because she is too weak and worthless. Like that is a pretty dark and evil thing to do to someone. Killing is easy, making someone live with it... that's darker.

I liked that Maul came back, and even if he really was just too angry to die it used that point well as his character ark was basically getting revenge on Kenobi and Sidios but he’s a cool character overall; it kinda made sense when Rey stabbed Ben and then healed him (EVEN THOUGH FORCE HEALING WAS INVENTED LIKE 20 MINUTES PRIOR) but that was for plot development between the two characters that eventually lead back to the end of the movie which is fine for the plot I guess, not to mention that he is the grandson of a very powerful force user who got all of his limbs chopped off and was still insanely powerful; and I guess one could argue that the grand inquisitor was very powerful and was once a temple guard and was probably helped by the two most powerful force wielders of the time; but the third sister is really where it makes no sense; I think they were going for another maul story, but it was just done poorly in general, but at least she can wield the force; the same can’t be said for Sabine who just gets back up the next day like nothing happened (unless is plays a bigger role in the show later on; I think they were trying to replicate the skywalker habit of losing a hand as part of training and character development or something)

Meanwhile qui-gon was stabbed in the middle area so it most likely would have snapped his spine as well as him laying there for a long while. It's only when Disney does something like this that it's bad because 65% of this fanbase holds an eternal grudge against Disney for the sequels. I get Disney has ruined lightsabers but they certainly justified it here. Sabine was stabbed in an organ that can still function even when heavily damaged and rushed to a medical facility immediately, along with it set during the time of the new republic which means medical technology would have gone pretty far since the clone wars so I can absolutely see how she survived.

He was able to survive being shanked in the back by a saber and tossed around like a rag doll but did not survive the vacuum of space he was yeeted into. It should also be noted that once he was stabbed he wasnt lile sabine and able to fend off his attacker he was on the ground in pain amd incapable of figting back.

100% agreed. Even in the older games like the Jedi Knight series and Kotor, the lightsaber was this milestone weapon you strived to get for like half the game or something and once you had it there was this sense of power like a sudden level up...and if you didn't have it yet and encountered enemies that did (dark jedi/sith) you would sweat and panic because of how much damage their lightsabers would do to you (Even the mechanics made it feel like going up against such enemies was not impossible but it was going to be tough). ...So yeah, a lot of the recent media just makes it feel a lot more "meh" in my opinion. Like it's still powerful but it has much less impact than it used to.

Yeah I know they say it’s for balance, but screw balance, look if you want balance, then make enemies stay at a distance, make blaster reflect more difficult and blaster fire more potent. However dismembered limbs should be an instant set back, and any stabs should be fatal. In fairness I feel like for the most part fallen order gets it right, other than against the big lightsaber users. Going up against a lightsaber weirder should be scary whatever you have. If they have blasters enemies should be trying to stay at a distance. Light sabers should be balanced by having to close the gap. I personally can understand however how from a lore perspective enemies who have never seen one in use might underestimate the effectiveness when mixed with a jedis skill set. Take Han as that example, someone who would never have seen a Jedi, might stand still. It’s where you need your ai to be smarter. When they see their team being decimated they should be running away, heading behind blast doors, etc. traditional archers would run at the sight of a cavalry charge.

Some of the examples can be argued with, the Grand Inquisitor has like 2 stomachs or something, while Sabine got immediate medical care and was stabbed in a less vital area i think. But for Kylo and Reva its stupid. There are also just so many better ways they could have portrayed some of these scenes, especially the Sabine scene. Like, if they needed her to take an L and get injured, they could just let her hand get chopped off (or another limb) or she gets slashed across the back like Finn does at the end of the Force Awakens.

The scene where Qui-Gon is using his lightsaber to melt through a bulkhead established how powerful lightsabers are. They don't just cut through stuff, but can melt whatever superalloy they use on spaceships on contact. This means that if you get stabbed through the torso, your internal organs will probably get cooked/fried in an instant. There's no way to survive that even with sci-fi super bio-technology. What's worse is if you take into consideration that the human body is 70+ % water, all that water will instantly turn into steam, causing it to explosively expand. So instead of getting a cauterized hole where the energy blade entered, the victim would turn into chunky salsa as the rapidly escaping steam bursts their body apart

Force heal is actually a thing in the original canon. How ray knew it could be done with 0 training is beyond me. Goes for most of her abilities. Ashoka would know that and probably healed sabine. Probably Disney trying to push some kind of recycled 'chosen one' plot where the main character is especially gifted so they don't have to show her training and can jump right into the guts of her story. It's like they forgot the reason we liked Luke and Anakin where simple- we obsevered their entire character grow. We watched both of them train and grow in strength from basically nothing. Both of them made huge sacrifices and struggled a lot(Luke less than his father). Rey just shows up with a deep knowladge of the force and stumbles upon Anakins lightsaber with ease. Then she basically awakens and becomes omnipotent. It's a stupid gimmick used to pump out heros cheap, quick, and mad easy.

I think the video games not letting you immediately slice everything in half is understandable, because being able to one hit kill everything would ruin the challenge of games like Jedi fallen order and survivor. And to Jedi Survivor's credit they did add some dismemberment in the game.
@Patman494
@Patman494 7 месяцев назад
You can play Survivor with a perk called Purity that basically makes the lightsaber (and blasters) one-shot. Guess what? It's not very fun. Plus, I've seen mods with full dismemberment - they're way over the top for my taste. Pretty much every trooper getting chopped right in half, or chopped diagonally across their chest. Sure, it's more "real," but it looks ridiculous. Survivor has a good balance with just enough dismemberment to keep it impactful.

You have an amusing complaint that I never thought about much - it does indeed reduce the iconic lethality of lightsabres to a cheap plot device. If you drunk molten metal, I think the effects would be similar - there's no way to survive such extreme heat in the vicinity of major organs. Shock, swelling, blood vessel damage, etc - it'd absolutely be fatal, it isn't just a piece of metal like a knife or bullet.

Imagine Qui Gon Gin’s purgatory of being forced to watch characters survive the same exact wound that he died to. I think having characters survive a lightsaber through the gut is the same as having resurrection (which to be fair Star Wars has too like with Palpatine). It just takes the weight out of seeing your favorite characters dying. Think about the deaths of Qui Gon and Satine and how the music played up their deaths and made it all the more impactful for us the audience. Now take away all that weight and all that suspense and let the characters survive.

If he had healed himself and trained Anakin, he would not have become Vader and would not have fulfilled his destiny

The lightsaber should be unequivocally deadly: one strike, you're toast. It may be a more elegant weapon, but on the battlefield, it should not only be death-dealing, but inflict a morale cost for those who look upon it. It is an instrument of justice in the right hands, but also the source of fear and respect.

Going by the power output we see Qui-gon's blade do in episode one with the door, a lightsaber would either VAPORIZE OR EXPLODE YOU if stabbed and held like that. it could cause your hydrogen and oxygen atoms to BURN LIKE A FLAME as they incinerate your body in a chain reacton, or boil your insides fast enough to Pop you

Exactly. It generally doesn't because it would be far too grizzly for the screen, but realistically a stab wound from a loghtsaber would destroy so much of your internal organs you'd die unless you almost immediately got put on full life support. A slash that cuts someone in 2, then it would be doing damage a couple inches around the slash, maybe with force bullshittery you could survive. And stab in the torso? Actually just straight dead, your remaining guts and sloshing around in the cooked soup of the rest of your guts.

Something I thought could happen in Ahsoka that would have made the ending of the first episode a lot more dramatic is cutting of one of Sabine's hands or really hurting her leg or something. We've seen bionic hands, so it wouldn't be totally fatal, and yet it would have way more impact because it would stay there... forever. A part of her would have been taken. She would have a constant reminder of her failure. She wpuld be tied to the apprentice for the rest of the series. Because almost noone actually believed Sabine died from a stab. But if she was really badly hurt... that would have been way more tense

Even tho I think Sabine survived due to getting medical help really fast, i do agree 100% with this statement.
