I have a little 22 ton splitter that I learned to do those "double barrels" with. I turn the round upside down so that the wedge is going into the bottom of it. Got the wedge stuck too many times trying to go from the top down. And my splitter doesn't have the extractor to be able to back a stuck wedge out. I have literally had to cut a round off the wedge with a chainsaw before, it was elm. LOL
@KNLFirewood
@KNLFirewood 5 месяцев назад
I’ve ALMOST had to do the same thing, I learned from Chris In The Woodyard, you can wrap a chain around the stuck piece and whatever part of your splitter that is static, then then back the wedge out. Works pretty slick!

Great demonstration of why I don't mess with those crotches. Just really not worth it and a guy doesn't end up with anything that could be sold. I know you'll burn it in your boiler, but what a pain in the butt. Axis for the win, but glad you didn't get hurt along the way.

I was considering an Axis, but I get a lot of tree service crotch logs in my area. What’s the biggest danger with these? I have a small horizontal splitter and I’ve had pieces shoot left and right, but never up. The blade kicks it to the sides. I’d think it would do the same on the Axis. Have you ever had a piece come at you? I wouldn’t want a broken jaw or ribs.
@KNLFirewood
@KNLFirewood 2 месяца назад
@@HybridWoodworks you certainly learn to read the wood and the machine. When I first got it I had a pc shoot off the table but not since. Couldn't tell you how many cords I've split with it...100's of full cords. I get tree service stuff too. A lot of it is tough splitting, but the Axis is the only way to split that stuff. Buy one. You won't regret it! Tell them I sent you! 🤣
