Golden retrievers are notorious for separation anxiety and destroying things while their people are gone. He's more happy to see you home than worried about any repercussions
Dogs also don't associate punishment too long after the bad behavior punishment for the behavior, but what they were just doing. In this case, the dog would think punishment is for being excited the owner got home, not the destruction. It's why you need to reward a dog that returns after having run off, since the praise reinforces them returning, while a punishment tells the dog returning is bad.
no they don't. they made the mess maybe hours ago and forgot it. they don't know the mess was theirs. don't shame your dogs, this is on the owner ( i know dogs do unexpected stuff, but it's still on the owner)
As a veterinarian, an animal trainer, you saying bad boy and waving your finger at him hours after the initial incident isn’t going to do anything. You need to correct him immediately while the action is happening the dog doesn’t even remember he did it. So now he’s just getting punished for being excited that he missed you.
If that is true, then explain to me why, when my Yorkie would get into the dirty laundry basket and take pieces out and strew them around the apartment, she would be nowhere to be seen when I would come home from work. AND, moreover, when I would walk her to the clothes, she would not look at them. I would point at them and say, "did you do that", and she would literally look in the opposite direction. She knew. Oh yes, she knew.
They feel threatened because they’re alone? What?!?! The dog became destructive because it was bored. It had too much energy and needed an activity; he found his own outlet to release his energy.
@@nataliefoster8871even if she had another dog with him, there's absolutely no guarantee that the house wouldn't end up getting destroyed, but in a much worse way. Double trouble is very real.. I had 2 dogs together once and the amount of exercise and training didn't matter, they'd still destroy things, so they ended up in crates whenever I left the house. I currently have one dog that I also crate as a precaution even though he's never chewed or destroyed things that he wasn't allowed to and plan on getting him some company in a year or 2 and hopefully I'll be able to leave him out, but whilst I'm renting, the crate is here to stay.
@@janedoe6181 Most commonly dogs do this as part of anxiety and stress, not play. When dogs are bored they will simply play with their toys like normal when they are alone or go to sleep. However when they are anxious they will start panicking and chewing on everything they can find as a stress reliever.
Yeah, that dog is going to do whatever it wants for its whole life. At least raise your voice a little bit lady, your dog thinks you’re playing with it.
He looks like he’s still a puppy. He should be in crate or be supervised while she’s at work. Puppies are troublemakers and shouldn’t be left alone unsupervised, just like children.
You can't entirely blame the owner for not being a dog training guru, like of course he's gonna make a mess in that situation, but it seems like she had gone to work, I assume he's new to the household and she wouldn't have the time to plan for doggy daycare, a sitter, or a crate. Just a busy woman who wanted a puppy and wasn't familiar with their sort of behavior, it's just early days, you can't entirely blame the woman for not being a pet owner veteran
@@YouAreAmerican1776that isnt satisfactory excuse for not doing any research. You dont need to be a "dog training guru" to look up what is basic information for having a dog.
@@donavancampbell6658exactly people are saying it’s cruel but how the f you supposed to afford a dog if you don’t work sounds like a great idea stopping working and just looking after a dog untill it needs to go to the vets and you can’t afford it or can’t afford health insurance even high quality dog food is pricey and I’m talking about pure mixed meat no terrible kibble
@@donavancampbell6658 Ok and that doesnt mean crap..buy your dog chew variety of toys, leave tv on, install a camera so you can speak to them and they'll learn youre around. Use common sense. Thats being a good pet owner 🙄
@@Aloysius_OHare Hitler made art too (jk) Just saying maybe it’s best to keep the “aww who’s the best boys” till when he does something admirable to not teach him the wrong lesson
@@YouAreAmerican1776 You're comparing a dog who hasn't killed a single human being to a human who participated in a war and had other people participate in a war of other humans dying. What is the problem? Its a dog. If you want to morph your own dog to your HUMAN standards then you do that. I can admire a dog being a dog.
@@4-Methylaminorex That’s dog bias, dogs have personalities like we do, and just like us some prefer being a bag of dookie on purpose, this puppy doesn’t follow that case, it just doesn’t know any better, but a dog with good intentions yet bad actions does not make a good dog either
You might get mad about the messes your doggo makes now, but … there *will* come a day when you’d be okay having your whole house in total disarray, if only it meant you could have your beloved dog with you again. 🥺💖🐕
Exactly. My breed, Great Pyrenees, barks at everything and nothing... which is annoying... Until the day the house is silent.🥺 Then, after a while, I find a new rescue or adoptee and the barking happily resumes. That's been my life for 34 years.😅
@@abelis644 I feel the same. My little chihuahua (a rescue), we got her in August 2020 when she was 4 & she will always make herself known whenever someone visits, but we all love her regardless. It’ll feel very strange not to see the little bump hidden under the blankets, whenever that fateful day comes & goes. No question about it, I’d have to get another little fur-baby to make the process easier. 🐕💔🐾
And at first leaving him for a few minutes, then a bit longer, then longer etc. A puppy doesn't know that you're coming back, they need to be taught properly and without anxiety.
That definitely helps and he needs a burn off exercise in the morning. At the very least a good game of fetch outside if possible. And she needs to slowly train him to be alone & confident.
More likely the pup just has too much energy and he found a way to burn it off that we don’t appreciate. The young pup doesn’t know any better. Seeing only one video, it’s impossible to know if the pup has separation anxiety.
Haha, that was the reaction of my Romanian rescue ex-street dog every time she pooped on the living room floor for the first fortnight we had her (always right after she'd been for a walk!). 💩
That's a badly trained dog who clearly needs more exercise, all blame is at the owner. Notice her vocal tone didn't change at all, dogs respond better to tone when something is positive or negative, using one tone for both confuses the dog. Also for a dog to behave like this it's bored, either the dog was left alone for a long period of time without appropriate toys for it to play with, or she simply doesn't play/walk the dog enough.
A couple things…first being, it’s a puppy, bro lol secondly, I know I read about dogs when I got my husky back in 2012 that when a dog does something like this, destroy the house or use then bathroom inside, if you don’t catch them in the act or right afterwards, then they wont understand why you’re mad. So flipping out on them when it’s been awhile since they did whatever they did, will do nobody any good.
Man how can you get mad at what he has done? I mean that face and reaction says it all. My Girls (Bluetick & Treewalker Coonhounds) can completely destroy my house and the only one getting admonished would be me for leaving them home alone.
That woman is terrible at sounding authoritative. That dog does NOT understand that she's angry, because she doesn't SOUND angry or stern in the slightest.
In all fairness, it is easier to assume things. We don’t know the full context of the situation. Puppies can sometimes get into mischief even if left alone for a short period of time, and it doesn't necessarily mean the owner is neglectful. Additionally, it's important to remember that training a puppy is a process, and occasional accidents are part of that learning curve. Judging someone based on a brief video without knowing all the details is not entirely fair
Wrong, idiot. The poor dog has excess energy to spend. The solution isn't to lock them into a tiny space and give them claustrophobia (yes, they *CAN* get that). It's to exercise their dog and give them an item they are allowed to gnaw at when they feel anxious or worried. Just because they don't always speak doesn't mean they're ok.
If it's not excess energy it's separation anxiety, I don't know how old the dog is but if it's young then it hasn't been taught that his mom will come back. Then it's a different training that's even easier to train. Don't jump on the crate torture the first thing you do.
I mean…it seems on her to train him better or get him something so he’s not home alone and bored all day. Besides, it does seem like it’s just paper towels mostly. Not a big deal to clean up 🤷♀️
@@okd521 Yeah, at first I thought it was like furniture/cushions or something but it kind of seemed like everything was still in tact and he just got a hold of a roll of paper towels and saw it as a toy? I could be wrong but lol not serious enough to rewatch it 50 times XD That being said, I still would say this might be more of the owner's fault. My family had a dog that had a lot of anxiety and could be a bit destructive when we first got her, but we trained her and took her for more walks and let her stay outside a lot so she could get her energy out and it didn't last too long. The dog does look pretty young though, maybe just needs more training.
@@audreyxatomic I grew up on a farm and even though I've lived in the city for 50 years I couldn't imagine having a cat or a dog stuck in a house all day long. That's just me.
If you have a dog, sooner or later, you're going to say those four little magic words... *"What did you DOOOO?"* 🤣 So, get over it. Dogs are worth every shredded couch, every stained area rug, and every stolen Thanksgiving Day resting turkey! Yup! Happened to us... two years in a row! But, you can't help but love 'em! 🥰 Hugs to Phillip! 🥰
Dogs don’t really appreciate being left alone for 12 hours at a time. He is just expressing his frustration at you for being a bad dog owner…So tired of seeing dogs in a bad environment. He deserves way better. 😢
