I’m not worried about the lore. The gameplay concerns me. Funcom haven’t been winning with Conan

Agreed, artworks are graphics are incredible, especially the trailers. The small amount of gameplay we've seen looks very nice, though I've no doubt it's recorded at the best settings possible. I think they're showing more gameplay at Gamescom this year, so that should be a good barometer of what's to come

Yeah I quite like the idea, it opens up a lot of possibilities and stops the wires getting crossed when theorycrafting lore in the future

This is interesting. Being in an alternate universe gives the game's story room to breathe, and room to grow and develop. Perhaps even though player-driven narrative. It gives us a nice, big, faction and conflict-filled sandbox to play in.

Dune looks great, just worried about it being FunCom now. Feel like it'll have all the bad Conan has, bug fixes will not be a priority. In other news Soulmask is pretty fun so far.

Thanks for the preview. Even though I'm a big fan of the books, I do think it was a smart choice to provide an alternate universe so the players aren't just background characters. I do wish that the Fremen hadn't been wiped out, though. They are such interesting characters, and I would have loved to interact with them in the game.

Glad you enjoyed it! The Fremen being exterminated does seem like a big loss, though the Dune X account replied to some tweets today that seem to imply Paul is an unreliable narrator is only seeing part of what's happening in this alternative timeline, so it's possible they're in hiding, or their numbers are just significantly reduced. Hopefully we'll find out some more in the Dune Direct

Paul seems to think so, though some tweets today from the Dune X account seem to hint that Paul might be only seeing part of a vision, or generally be a somewhat unreliable narrator, so it's possible they might not be entirely gone

The voiceover at the start of the trailer is just the same as Conan’s opening game cinematic. So I believe this is the opening cinematic. If it’s a Conan exiles 2.0 Dune version, I’m sure it’ll be familiar.

The team definitely do have a similar style of trailer/opening cinematics for sure. Then again I think the Conan intro movie is quite good, if it ain't broke, don't fix it 😂

I've no problem with the game not following the books / films, it does not even have to be set around the same time period but there is a problem with whats being presented in the trailer. If Jessica had obeyed the Bene Gesserit and had a daughter that would have ended the conflict between Houses Atredies and Harkonnen as Jessica's daughter would have married Feyd Rautha and sealed the rift as reverend mother Gaius Helen Mohiam says in both book and film. Personally I think this does not make any sense if you just change the sex of Leto's and Jessica's child, if there was no child at all that could work as the conflict between the houses would have continued. If the dev's are going down an alternative story or lore path then it should at least make some kind of sense, this does not.

Would it not depend on when Dune: Awakening takes place? If Jessica's daughter is still an infant, there seems to be at least some time there where Houses Atredies and Harkonnen could still be at war before she's old enough to be married to Feyd Rautha, assuming the events of the game take place shortly after the Siege of Arrakeen I might be wrong, but that's how I see this placement of the timeline from what we know atm

@@Eradicati0nn If they are just simply swapping the sex of Jessica's child then her age is not relevent because as soon as she is born then the Bene Gesserit would have been at work in the background influencing both houses to bring an end to the conflict and the Siege of Arrakeen would never happen. The game would have to be set years before Jessica has a child but that does not follow the narrative of the trailer.

There may be more to it, the Dune twitter has said a few things since this trailer came out to imply that Paul might be seeing things incorrectly or be an unreliable narrator, but all we've really got atm is what's presented here. Hopefully it's something they'll explain more in the Dune Direct

i really dont care about mediocre sand wasteland sci-fi like Dune. The movie had almost no content, what I expect from a video game is even less.

I agree, my initial thought was "well where does the game take place in relation to Paul's story?" but seeing as it all seems to happen in an alternative universe, I think it's probably the best direction to take. I really hope they lean heavily into the faction/politics aspects too

So, the Golden Path isn’t required and humanity doesn’t face Kralizec? Also, the BG plan to breed the KH still exists…the daughter of Leto married to the na-baron Harkonnen produces the KH anyhow…just under the control of the BG. I don’t see how this is necessary. They could have set this before the Atreides show up…

It's hard to say for certain. I think "No Kwisatz Haderach" in the trailer probably refers to Paul being KH, not it's lack of an existence at all. My thought of why they went for an alternative timeline is so that future story developments of the game won't conflict with the lore of the source materials & movies. It's hard to really know how good the premise will be without knowing more, but on the surface, I think it could be a good approach

Loyal in respect of not creating story events that would contradict things that later happen in the books or the films. I guess those events still technically happen, but because DA appears to take in place in Paul's dream/vision, those events don't happen for the purpose of the game's story, which should stop in conflicting with the events that follow Paul's birth

@@Eradicati0nn Let's see, funcom didn't do a bad job with Conan lore. The gameplay and especially their incompetent management of development is what worries me more. Particularly now playing SoulMask that has on release of early access more solid gameplay, features and minimal bugs compared to Conan after over 6 years of work put in it.

@@aresgalamatis7022 Yeah for all the bugs and bad dev decisions, the lore for Conan has remained stellar IMO. I tried the demo of Soulmask and it really didn’t do anything for me, it felt very much like something I’d have played in 2014, I’m not sure how much it has improved since then

@@Eradicati0nn I haven't tried the demo, but after a week playing the early access on official, I really love the combat (very different from Conan) and the "thrall" management (which I wish we had in Conan). Building thus far for me is the weakest part; I don't see myself making anything close to the builds I have done in my Conan server.

The only story that matters in MMOs/survival games is the one the players create for themselves. With the exception of SWTOR and FFXIV (which are really single-player games with optional multiplayer), dev-driven MMO story is repetitive you-are-the-One dogshit.

Idk I think an MMO with a solid story can be good, but yeah they do tend to fall into the "you are the one" archetype. Even Runescape, my favourite MMO, falls into that same trap and has done consistently over many years
