I spotted this iconic ghost sign (an old, outdated sign or advertisement that still lingers untouched) in Butte, Montana USA. The antique advertisement on the side of a building advertised Wrigley's Spearmint Gum in the 1890s and early 1900s. It's the original, untouched paint and all. Shocking it has lasted over 120 years! It's so fascinating and eerie at the same time to see such living history in this small mining town in America's northern half! It's located in Butte's historic Uptown district.
If you look closely, you can see an old wristwatch advertisement that was covered up by the Spearmint Gum sign. This shows that this side of the building was a hot piece of real estate that luxury and high-end businesses sought to place their advertisement on.

ABOUT BUTTE MONTANA: Butte is a city located in southwestern Montana, United States. It is the county seat of Silver Bow County and has a rich history in mining and copper production. Often referred to as "The Richest Hill on Earth," Butte was once a thriving mining town during the late 19th and early 20th centuries, attracting thousands of settlers in pursuit of the abundant copper, silver, and other minerals in the area.
The city's growth was primarily driven by the Anaconda Copper Mining Company, which operated the famous Anaconda Mine. However, as the mining industry declined, Butte faced economic challenges and a significant decrease in population.
Today, Butte is a smaller city but retains its historical charm and character. Visitors can explore its mining heritage through various attractions, such as the World Museum of Mining and the Berkeley Pit, an enormous former open-pit copper mine now filled with toxic water. The city also boasts beautiful landscapes and outdoor recreational opportunities, including nearby hiking trails, fishing spots, and skiing areas.
Butte's architecture reflects its mining past, with many historic buildings still standing, giving the city a unique and vintage atmosphere. Despite its decline from its mining heyday, Butte remains a fascinating destination for history enthusiasts and those seeking to explore Montana's rugged beauty.
