@@bnjmndrf1055I mean,,, it is called “retold”. and all it is SUPPOSED to be is a remake. The original game has been out since 2002 and STILL has a lot of diehard fans. If they went around and fucked with everything people simply wouldn’t be interested. Not to mention the base game is gonna be like 25 or 30 bucks or something. So they’re not charging AAA prices either. Because AGAIN. all it’s supposed to be is a remake
@@connorgallagher3247I think you’re confusing remake with remaster. Remakes can have updated game mechanics while remaster is mainly just graphics. You can argue this is a lazy remake. No harm in that.
@@Nehpets94While they are minor changes, I would argue that being able to recast god powers, Auto villager production, being able to build multiple titans, village centers which can be built anywhere and more AS well as the other various changes so far to the Greeks, Egyptians and Norse. Make it a worthy remake while still staying true to the original game enough that they’re keeping long time fans happy.
I'm losing my mind watching all your videos. All the little changes to the game compared to my childhood, new unit models, being able to recast god powers, auto villager production, did I see a gold mine regen at 21:30? it's absolutely blowing my mind to see this stuff.
That casting UI is so much better. Much more intutative than the original. I would love to watch you learn and grow with AOM. Gonna be a treat watching you cast and play my favourite RTS.
@@sebastianschrader838 User Interface. It's a technical term for any buttons or tools you interact with to get stuff doing things. In AOM it is the resources display, creation of unit buttons, unit control buttons, menues, and the minimap.
back in 2002, casting wasn't really a thing. I remember downloading rec for the WCG tournament and wasn't able to play it, as it was played in the korean version, that was incompatible with my german version.
Thanks for covering AOM! It has been my fav game for a decade now! You should play the campaigns of the OG, they are pretty fun and go through some cool Mythology so you can learn while playing a fun game!
I don't know who in the studio thought that the Beta designation should bounce around the screen like the DVD logo in idle mode, but they must be some serious psychopaths.
I believe its so that it cant be hidden easily/at all, i'm not really sure why though, i guess so that people can not make it seem like its a footage of the final product?
@@TheArchon24 I have no issue about the footage being watermarked. But put it in a box on the side or in the corner of the screen. Hell, make the box a very eye catching colour to make sure it does not get lost among other stuff. But the way it bounces around is the most distracting, annoying way they could have gone about it.
@@turankhan2381 and why he didn't thunder son of Osiris thou? Something has changed from vanilla? Cause Zeus was a heavy counter of ra. He couldn't boom and fast heroic was such a bad gamble against 10 hoplitea that can destroys your tc in 40 secs
Something I'm noticing right now is that player's aren't yet taking advantage of the huge amounts of extra Favor you get in Retold. Both players were sitting on a lot of extra Favor and some extra Myth units probably would've gone a long way to helping one side win out over the other.
What's with the rain of arrows from off screen? Happened a few times, such as 11:44. I don't remember that being a god power. If I'm not mistaken, military units in AOM only have 1 'class', so chariot archers are only archers, not cavalry.
Damn a 15% discount on the already cheap Egyptian Slingers is really good, if Set makes them cheaper still in Retold, it could make them really cost effective and if you take the gods that buff archers, it's even better!
Nothing to do with the quality of your cast, but I can't understand why the spectator UI has to fill so much of the screen. Why does it have to be in the centre? It seems to be poorly thought out.
Half of me being happy that one of my childhood favourite game got "retold", both watching or playing it sounds fun. Half of me being sad that AOE4 seems got ditched by Relic and Microsoft, I haven't played season 7 after getting Conqueror within the first week, thought we may have a big big patch of changes for season 8, and they gave us this poopoo patch, also that great insult from Redbull, sounds it is dying to me.
I wish Bronze would actually, you know, turn them bronze like in the original. One of the only disappointments for me (along with the oddly GRAY water everywhere; the Aegean should be effervescent in how blue it is)
@@dodang_9147 It's still a very useful God Power. Most early skirmishes tend to consist of your free Myth Unit and a group of soldiers. Being able to just eliminate your opponent's free Myth unit is a pretty big deal for early-game.
@@GARGANTUANMASKEDFISH Compare his god power to all other gods powers. It is one of the worst. Poseidon can get food to his base, boost economy. Ra can get food to boost economy with downside of boosting enemies Isis: boosts gold economy which is huge for this faction Seth: Can get vision to do the teleport timing attack Loki: Vision on your enemy. Odin: Increases food economy for hunting, strong if used on elephants. Thor: Unlimited gold scaling Chronos: Deconstructs building infinitely. Ornanos: Stuns enemies units allowing disengagement, can boost Archer dps/protect range unit. Gaia: Unlimited wood resource. Only Hades has worse god power than Zeus. Zeus god power was good because weakening titans and killing core hero units.
I know the Atlanteans are coming to retold. I hope the Chinese DLC gets added as well (I know it is not everyone's favourite but I really enjoy playing as them)
Just had to get a refund on it won't turn off the narration of everything I point my mouse at, and I can't play like that. I tried for over 2 hours to fix it.
Unless u r a AOM fan, u really don't know how fast those chariots and camels get produced from stronghold lol Its like the bread and butter of egypt, get a couple of stronghold up and print chariots, no other civ can match their production, the key to going against it is myth units. but ofc u have son of osiris who u need to kill first. So him losing bunch of chariots is like losing bunch of zerglings or spearmen, they are trash units which train insanely fast lol.
AOM was a huge part of my childhood and my favorite game growing up. So happy to see a solid remake happening. The campaign and story has always been the most important thing to me about RTS games, and the AOM story was epic, which is part of the reason why I think their is so much interest and anticipation for Retold. However, I just played the initial tutorial and first campaign mission and was very disappointed to find that Microsoft have not keep the original voice actors from the original game. The voice acting was so good in the originals (especially Arkantos and Ajax) and replaying through the campaign with different voices makes the game seem foreign to me rather than familiar. Not sure if others feel the same way, but it completely ruins the nostalgia and immersion for me! Drongo I know you haven't played the original game before but please use your powers of influence at Microsoft to ask them to bring back the original character voices!!!
@@Ballistic-vn6em At least include the original voices as an option if not as the default. I was thinking they should just use the voice recordings from the original games...that they would already have as they now own the original...why would they need to be recorded again...?!?!
my biggest issue with the game is that the Chinese are being resold as DLC and not included in the game at launch alongside the Atlanteans. Would much rather have two new Pantheons for the DLC instead of reselling an old one
The Chinese culture in the Extended Edition was developed by the 3rd-party Skybox Labs that had no (former) Ensemble Studios programmers at all, and it was found out to be buggy and OP.
@@thegorn I think AoE4 is far ahead in terms of graphics, but I'm talking about the functionality of the engine. E.g. you can rewind the replays, or the post-game statistics simply works.
The Essence engine is super polished from a mechanics perspective and I could feel that immediately when playing AoM:R, but yea… the feature set for things like replays, pausing, reconnects… all are sorely lacking compared to modern RTS. And its modability is sadly limited as well
I tried the beta, I have mixed feeling about it. The game is great but once again Microsoft went for the lazy remake. Ok ok ok I know Microsoft is a small company with little money to put in videogames
@@Zabulba27 but you are comparing it to a game that was an original product from 3 years ago. A remaster of AOM isn’t going to look better than aoe4. A remake possibly would but that’s completely different than a remaster. They are still starting from what the original was not from scratch
It's kinda sad. It's decades later and the game hardly evolved. RTS has had almost no evolution if you compare it to FPS. Doom vs COD or Fortnite for example. Where this is Age of mythology with slightly better graphics and a few different units :/
I mean ... the most simple FPS out there are still amongst the most played ... like counter strike for example. There have been other experiments with other mechanics for RTS but no one likes them. Just good ol Rock paper scissors like the Age of titles just feel the best Quite often you dont want to many new features .. you want balance and consistency so you can become good at that game against other players
Just a shame the game uses AI art for the gods. I'm not paying MICROSOFT of all people for cheaping out and not using artists for the art, which is as hame, because AoM is one of my favourite childhood games.
Not only is it AI art, it's not that good of AI art either. You can make much better AI images than these with the right AI at the moment. So, they didn't just cheap out on the art, they even cheaped out on the AI art, which is doubly bad...
This game looks like it'a 30%-40% finished... if they release it like this, shame on them... it's 2024 ffs, what is this shitt, im dissapointed... you don't remake legendary game like this
are you drugs ? what exactly is missing ? So far feedback wise it seems quite good. Balance is good, Mechanics are working, Units are there .. what else do you need ?
