1) Aura disrespected the dead 2) Aura disrespected Himmel’s and the humans that has fallen’s legacies. 3) Aura disrespected Frieren’s friends. Yeah, nuff reason to really piss off the Slayer.

I think Himmel scolded Frieren for disrespecting the dead by blasting them, which is what Aura can’t comprehend because she’s a demon.

Also, there's the fact that their entire existence pretty much revolves around killing humans. Their "Words" are nothing more than a weapon to fool humans into letting down their guard before killing them. If I were to compare them to something, it'd be a magic spell. They're less 'human creatures' and more like 'spells' that is aimed at humanity. No matter how complex they can become, their end goal will still end up being 'killing the humans'. Honestly, I pity them, but in the same way I pity goblins in Goblin Slayer, in that they're pitiful creatures that cannot grow beyond their set parameters, that they will still inevitably be beings that cannot help but kill humans.. thus killing them all the same, as is the case of Goblin Slayer.

It’s like if someone told Peter Parker that he doesn’t have to follow the “great power must also come with great responsibility” adage since the one who told him to do that was dead. It’s very much a disrespectful sentiment towards the departed, makes sense why Frieren would be angry.

And also since Frieren has learned what the right thing to do is, she cannot stand people that suggests that once no one is watching you can go back to the wrong ways.

What? That doesn't seem to make sense, sorry, because the entire reason Linie didnt finish off Stark after her second takedown of him was because she wanted to rush over and help Lugner since she didn't want to get scolded. I believe Lugner was genuinely asking for help there.

@@Pyxyty There are clues strewn about in the storytelling. Demons are established to be logical albeit alien creatures that prioritize their survival. At the same time, they are arrogant predators who can only think of others as prey. Lugner starts by directly mentioning Stark's death out loud to Fern. It's not like he actually cares about Stark. It's an instinct to put the prey on the backfoot, to worry about their friend. Lugner also only says "Hurry up and finish him". He never says "Help me". Linie is hurrying to finish that order, but only that. These are very literal creatures, who have been shown to not care about each other. Draht died, and all it got was the clinical analysis. There is no narrative evidence that shows Linie cares about Lugner's well-being, or vice-versa. Nor is there any evidence that they can somehow communicate non-verbally like we do. Furthermore, Linie says that Lugner hates it when she interrupts. Fern herself states how prideful Lugner is. His defining trait is that arrogance of his. It would've be fun for us of course to see him abandoning that arrogance to ask for help, but that doesn't make sense in this context. While fighting Fern, he's still logically and calmly evaluating the situation. Narratively, there's no breaking point to shift his character. Then when he realizes he needs an advantage, he uncharacteristically shouts to Linie. Of all things he could do, he warns Fern and Stark that Linie is about to get serious. Logically not a wise choice, unless it relates directly to what he was silently thinking of a second before: "I need an opening". And by that, I mean he could've told Linie to ignore Stark and join him. But no, he chose the method that should've unnerved any other normal foe. Because he wanted that kill. And the most compelling thing: Narratively, it is irony that gets him. Lugner wants to distract Fern using Stark's death, Linie dies, Lugner gets distracted, and Fern sees an opening. In a story full of tropes, this one is tried and tested throughout literary history. Irony got Qual, it got Lugner. It's gonna get someone else again.

Fern is a quickdraw, fastest spellslinger in the North, and Stark is an HP Tank, his entire role in the party is to be a sponge and then give back more than what he was getting.

@@restfulori212 I mean, you can still empathize with them in the way you'd empathize for any living thing that can (clearly only sometimes) feel pain, pride, fear, desire, and satisfaction (the most basic ones), as living beings, with intellectual reasoning too. It's just empathy they seem to lack, plus the emotions they show in their face are usually faked. But you'd empathize with them in the same way you do for a rabid (as in, actual rabies) beast, it still needs to be put down, because it is only a danger.

The whole mana thing is overexagerated as well. Bro is underestimating her because even during the fight, she's concealing her Mana she's actually far stronger than Lugner, and that's why she's never concerned in her battle she's at least on par Mana wise with Heiter in his time with Frieren

I think it is just good writing. The writer makes sure everyone in the story both the protagonists and antagonists aren't idiots (except Stark but he's young and inexperienced unlike these demons). So they don't fight simplistically but also fight with flaws (e.g. Lugner's arrogance and distaste for defeating foes with sneak attacks while still using a sneak attack to prove that he could do it too yet allowing Ferne to get her weapon and into a fighting stance because he wanted to beat her without a sneak attack) that match their established character.

yeah, Stark really hit her ego when he said she really just an immitation of his master. We can see she really had an advantage when she use combined weapon and stark able to block most of the axe attack (because he is familiar with it)

No, her weapon of choice isn't what made her lose, her EXPLAINING that she copied Eisen was the cause of her lost. then Stark only needed to gamble on the fact that she only copies the moves, not the strength. Stark was afraid when he didn't know it was a copy of Eisen's attack, but once he knew, that fear is gone.

Yeah, it's why Flamme, Frieren, and Fern specialized in hiding/supressing their magical power. So Demons underestimate them and not give Demons their clear strength. Spolier Spoiler Spoiler Spoiler Frieren is baiting Aura to weigh her soul so she can basically make Aura's spell backfire. Nen conditions is really one of the best power concept I've seen implemented as long as it is balanced. Aura logically had all the advantages (Large mana amount and still increasing as she lives, Growing army, targettable and not passive spell).

I've read the source material enough to understand the intricacies implied between the lines and based on general stuff learned about the world from later stuff helping my understanding early events in the series. Also, the spoiler you wrote will literally be shown next episode. Stop trying to spoil people and just wait for next week to explain it to the reactors who don't get it fully and to enjoy the reactions of the ones who do get it fully from the episode.

Their instinct is to kill humans, they are evil. Their ability to speak : it's just a tool of manipulation. they kill humans not because they need to eat, or pleasure from it, they kill humans because it's has always been their way since they were born. Even some demons later in the story who tries to understand humans, still kills alot of humans in that process.

The manga explicitly says the scales are a magic item.

But if you mean special magic item with a special ability, then nope. It is never referred as such. You are falling specifically for what I warned not to fall for. Technically, the "Scales of Obedience" isn't the actual name of Aura's unique magic, but it is the epithet given to it and what humans call it.

If it was a magic ability it would be singular. "She places her own soul and that of her target onto the scales" showing that the scales are a physical object. "The Scales are risky to use, but that's what makes them so powerful" Again, THEM not singular. "Though the scales always tilt to one side" showing the scales are a physical, visible object. "They do judge fairly" demonstrating that the scales function APART from the demon's will. There is the "Auserlese. Spell of Obedience." phrase mentioned twice, but it is never defined and may just be a trigger for the scales. The ONLY evidence in your favor is that the scales are in one panel at the end of the battle and then they're never in any other after.

She uses scales as a staff/medium for the process of her unique magic. And opinions from humans with whom Aura never explained everything is not a reliable narrator. If course it's "them" since in those sentences the ability is called Scales of Obedience, which it plural because, you know what, scales are ALWAYS in plural. That's just how that word is. Because it had two parts. 3- I've also seen good theories that the scales are simply create with magic. Whether it is this or it is just a normal scale, the end result is the same. They are not usable by others for the main power is Aura's unique magic.

@@sancturillore A single ability, regardless of name, is referred to with singular attributes. The fact is, there's not enough context to determine who is correct in this discussion. There is nothing that says whether or not someone could use them. Graf describes them as if they were a magical instrument that existed before Aura that she discovered, but he doesn't directly say that that is the case. He talks about them as if they're a known entity. And frankly, it'd be a REALLY stupid magic to create if you were a demon.

If anything, it is a matter of how much power if put in the spell. 1- For shorter range targets and when speed is more important, not as much. 2- For longer range targets, like the rock to pierce in episode 2, Fern charged it more. 3- For larger targets (a normal sized shot wouldn't have been enough to kill Qual), Frieren charged it more, and thus it also pierced the cliff. Personally, I'm more surprised that the shot in episode 8 didn't pierce the wall behind Lugner. This is why I'm assuming that it was a case where the power was only maintained for a shorter range.

To be fair. Wouldnt have changed anything. Stark was just way stronger than her. Whether she got that hit in earlier or later, wouldnt have mattered. She legitimately cant really hurt him. And he was always going to one shot her, she was just entirely outclassed.

Who didn’t realize that? She said out loud “why are you only fighting defensively?” He wasn’t fighting until he accepted she wasn’t as strong as his master.
