YO I ran all the moves from the knight sac on to the queen trade through my Stockfish 14 and gave it like 3 minutes in every position. Not only did Wesley attack with only top-engine moves, MVL defended in the most engine-perfect way. Like, even when Levy said that h5 was the most precise defense, Stockfish 14 discards this move after about 30 seconds and suggests bishop takes b5. And MVL found this defense over the board. That is INSANE. And even the continuation, sliding the rook over and trading queens is top engine-level stuff. Unbelievable.

I played a move that engine tells is a blunder, but on the very next move I checkmated the opponent, and that “blunder” move was necessary.

I know of another great example of a sacrifice that Stockfish has a lot of trouble seeing or even understanding, but I can't seem to find the game in which it was played (I know it was Leela as white and she won, but I couldn't find it). It goes as a bishop sacrifice in the Ruy Lopez opening ; the game went 1. e4 e5 2. Nf3 Nc6 3. Bb5 Bc5 (i believe this was the pre-arranged position) 4. c3 Bb6 5. d4 exd4 6. cxd4 Nce7 7. O-O c6 (maybe the move order isn't perfectly right, but you get to that position), in which Leela played 8. d5 with the idea to follow 8... cxb5 with 9. d6 and completely paralyze black's position. If anyone remembers that game, I'd be glad if you could share the reference.

Once I saw it, Nf6 actually made sense at first sight, because I was used to giving up pieces to try to exploit dark-square weaknesses with Qh6.

That Nf6 reminds me of Byrne - Fischer 1963. You expect the knight to go after material in the form of a rook, but instead it collapses the enemy position. Really beautiful.

Hey Gotham... I'm playing in a OTB tournament at the end of October, and I was wondering, can you explain everything about chess tournaments to someone who is going for the first time.. explain some tournament rules (do you say check out loud when it is check.. can you go grab a smoke if your opponent is thinking for more than 5mins, and similar) and like how is the organization usually... What are you doing between rounds, how do you prepare mid-tournament.. it's a closed county championship .. 30+30sec and it's a swiss tournament.. So I don't know my opponents before the start of the tournament.. Looking forward getting an official rating :D Cheers!

Fun fact: Wesley So is actually the Fischer Random world champion (also called Chess 960 - or 9LX if you create an unholy union of Roman and Arabic numerals). He beat Magnus Carlsen in the finals in 2019, making it the only championship Magnus doesn't currently hold.

*New video idea for Levy:* Create three or five games (with players of increasing ranks i.e. 700s, 900s, 1200, 1800s etc...) and put them all in move 20 (or any particular move) of a very famous chess game and see how the players play the position! I think it would be really interesting to see the comparisons between playstlyes and the development and implementation of certain tactics and ideas of specific ranks. Then when you've recapped the new games, explain how the original game was played and why it was so famous! I love your content Levy, really enjoying recent videos and going back and watching the old ones (your energy has been off the charts lately). Appreciation and support from the UK 🇬🇧 !

I actually saw the move in question, figuring that opening up the space after the pawn takes the knight would allow for some kind of tricky mating trap, which is funny because I don't usually see those sorts of plays.
