Why would anybody be a fan of such a generic.. trash car that people litreally only buy because of the brand it sits behind... in saying that Ford is about as american as an Aussie Outback steakhouse is in america. you'll find it's more european then american these days considering how ford mostly produce cars to markets like England, Germany, France ect ect. Even in those countries... they don't have Avid fans like they do in the U.S
@MrGFG003

@@RU-vidHandlesAreStupid There was a time when the pre-2013 Escapes were sold with 4WD, manual transmission and considerable reliable engines with decent performance and gas mileage, and had quite an interesting ground clearance and offroad capabilities, contrary to the things 2013+ Escapes might be able to do, particularly with the 2017+ EcoBoost engines... I used to be an Escape fan until I decided to buy a brand new 2018 with EcoBoost... man, what a mistake that was... it's been 6 months since I took it to the dealer with the infamous coolant leak only to find out that the actual piston head cracked, and even with the replacement engine, the thing just doesn't stop having issues. I'm selling it as I found a cheap 2001 Mercury Grand Marquis with low mileage just under $2k USD, and the thing is almost mint condition. They are selling it because gas prices, but the economy you can get from those Panther-based cars can easily match and outperform that of a current gen 2.0 4-banger turbocharged gasoline engine.

This project is based on an idea that is so dumb that other than as a joke, nobody would ever try. Keep in mind the reason he is doing this is to gain experience to do it with a bus. Not only is the bus far too heavy, it has the aerodynamics of a piece of plywood facing the wind. Worse still, he's not going to be driving it 20 miles a day at low speed picking up kids within a limited circle, but taking it on multi-state highway speed road trips carrying vehicles. This bus is going weigh a lot. Between the weight and the poor aerodynamics, this thing is going to need A LOT of batteries. The only good thing is, I believe, he is never going to finish the bus. The bus will be scrapped before it will be completed. He has had the bus for years and has done next to nothing on it. Next month it will be 4 years since he introduced the bus on the channel. (Mar 21, 2019). He has done almost nothing on the bus since. His handling of the project has been terrible. He should stop taking on more projects until the bus is complete as a diesel bus. Only after all the details are worked out (assuming he finishes the bus at all) should he be considering an EV swap.

I really, really, really enjoy the thought of Rich Rebuilds being contacted for advice (I know you don't actually necessarily need the assistance with these sorts of projects, I just imagine the pair of you collaborating would either be amazing, or horrific.)

Have to say, you are going after this project like a pro! So glad to see you up & running full-tilt on this project. When you DO get this thing all put together, you might want to consider putting some type of rollcage inside. It will be a lethal weapon when completed.

I often forget that this is a channel with less than 300k subscribers. The content is so good and the editing is very nice. The bud plates being sold out the day the video came out on RU-vid makes it feel like a channel with 10 million subs where you have to race to be first to watch in case there’s a limited giveaway.

What amazes me is the amount of tools and equipment you have. I'll bet there are many auto shops that have as much equipment you have. I'm an old(81) shade tree mechanic, and I don't even know what most of them do. Of course, cars were much simpler back then. We could generally figure out some way to jury rig something to work, which I guess you are doing on more complicated problems. Good luck on finishing the Ford, so you can work on the "real" project, the BUS!

Dude you are absolutely killing it! I love this new series and the fact that you include all of the woes that are unavoidable on projects of this scale! As for that sticky coating on the IGBT modules, I've encountered that stuff on some smaller MOSFET H-bridge modules in the past, Maybe it's just a really good way of ensuring there are no low-clearance air gaps that can potentially arc over in the event dust/debris builds up on the surface. Almost like a self-healing behaviour?
