As a chinese-speaking viewer, I'd be glad to help interpret the info on that motor controller Did you initiate the self learning function of the controller by plugging in the white thin cables? And also, which type of hall sensor did you use? 43E or 49F type ? Some controllers utilize dual on-off type hall sensors with one linear type hall sensor in the middle, while others use on-off type only

@bleeedthebrakes
@bleeedthebrakes 3 года назад
@Lassi Kinnunen 81 He only installed 3 sensors, which is correct The other issue I've observed is that he gave the whole system a fairly small final drive ratio, while this controller is mainly target towards direct-drive hub type motors. Those motors are commonly seen in light electric bikes, and I'd imagine if he raise the final drive ratio to about double direct drive rates, the go cart can start rolling by itself with no problem.

Have you tried turning it off and on again? This is a joke in IT support, but it's also the most common advice. Because it works 90% of the time. Bloody programmers can't write software without memory leaks, or that gives back resources the computer when it's finished using them. So then when another program, or the same one later on, need these resources, they're not there. If it's RAM they've consumed and lost track of (a memory leak), eventually the system will run out of free RAM and start swapping out to the hard drive, causing thrashing and slowing things riiiight down. So we'd ask you to save your work, if you can, then shutdown and restart. On restart the RAM allocation list is nice and free again, resources are fresh and unallocated, so programs can ask for resources and expect to get them. Everything runs nicely! Except there's still that leak...! The solution ultimately is for the company to fix their damn software and for users to update to that version. But in that time there'll be a _different_ bug in that, or some other, bit of software.
@NORMIES_GET_OUT
@NORMIES_GET_OUT 3 года назад
Software devs are the bane of my existence. Last timeI had an issue I sent 140 GBs of data to one of our software engineers to back up my claims because a control program they had us upgrade in the field had a huge memory leak and would corrupt it's own config files. His reply was, "Huh, well it didn't do that in our field trials."

15:28 Controller without sensors know how fast rotor is spinning by using back EMF but if motor dont turn there is no back EMF, so controller energize coils to get started. 21:25 Majority of cheap controller have self learning linie, you simpli connect 2 wires together and controller automata search for hall sensors. 23.00 Problem can be voltage from battery drop so much, control thing battery is discharge and simple act like low voltage protection. I start with changing gear ratio look like you motor dont have enough torque to start rolling.
@Ramblin_DMC
@Ramblin_DMC 3 года назад
I have a lot of experience with these weird Chinese controllers and brushless motors. You need to run the self learn function. One of the pins on the controller harness will activate a self learn function where it free spins itself around and learns the positioning of the hall sensors. Doing the 36 combinations isn't necessary if you run the self learn. Also the BMS in your batteries is what's cutting it out. The controllers don't usually care.

@wiredsim
@wiredsim 3 года назад
I suspect the controller is cutting out because it is not a 36 volt controller (yes what he has is claimed to be a “40 volt” battery, but every one that isn’t marketing considers 10s to be 36 volt). The resting voltage is high enough that it doesn’t fully trip the controllers low voltage function but as soon as the battery sags the controller cuts out. It’s likely a 48v 1500w controller. It’s actually not common to find a 36v 1500w Chinese controller.

In Permanent Magnet Synchronous motor (PMSM) drives, shaft position information is required for the proper control of the machine. In the PMSM drive the torque ripple generated by the machine has various harmonic content. The major torque ripple generated in a three phase machine is due to the interaction of 5th, 7th , 11th and 13th harmonics in the back emf with the phase current. These induced voltage harmonics are responsible for the 6th and 12th order (electrical) ripple in the torque. In practical applications we tend to see various other harmonic orders in the torque.

While you were explaining things, I was thinking of ways to accomplish the goal. The Alternator normally puts out 3 phase AC. By removing the diodes, you have a ~12V DC motor. I would buy a 12volt 3 phase variable drive to power the motor. What would be controlled is the frequency of the 12 volts going to the alternator turned motor. A cheaper alternative would be to purchase a 120VAC inverter. Using a step down transformer, 12VAC could be derived. Then using a capacitor a 'RUN VOLTAGE' could be derived. A little fidling with the inverter to make it variable speed and the motor runs. Back to basics: There are no DC motors. All motors that run on DC use a commutator to create AC that powers the motor.

Hi there, please like this for him to see. I am working with PM BLDC motors on daily basis and here is my input: potential issues that would lead to controller cut off power. 1) check battery C rating and if it is at least 1C (if i remember Correctly you matched that capacity to match input power of the motor in which case you need 1C rating) 2) Check if batteries can be connected in parallel (bms might sens under the load there is to much amps going out and cut it off) 3) motor can is to high rpm and not enough torque in which case you will have big issues with efficiency and overheating. All that amps will go into heat instead of propulsion. 4) if above is the case then its very possible that motor try to get more amps that controller can give and there might be over current problem. You can reach out if you will need any help. Great job on asynchronous and synchronous motor explanation its brilliantly easy to understand for a 5 year old.

Hey, the controller that you used probably works with specific hall sensor positioning. If you use 120 deg positioning , you have make sure that controller programmed for that. It can be programmed for 60 degree. You have to match controller degree with hall sensor positioning degree of the motor. Most probably you controller is programmed for 60 degree.

You're doing the right thing going with a real battery. I started my e-bike with two 40v batteries from my electric snowblower and a hub motor. Then moved to 16ah multistar lipo batteries which were good for a few years. Now it's got a 4,500w mid drive, 60amp controller and 72v li-ion battery. Never should have messed around with the other stuff. Also, lots of those cheap controllers are made for scooters, where you are supposed to give it a kick. It may not have the grunt to get it going. Couple things that might be useful: 1. The efficiency of a standard alternator is around 50%. That doesn't include the power losses from the motor controller, and the DC to DC converter. Total efficiency is probably going to be around 30-35%, not 80%. Sadly. 2. If the whiteboard theory says you're going to drain your lithium ion batteries in 10 minutes, I'd expect the real world results to be around 15 seconds, which is what you got. The Amp draw is so far beyond what they're designed for, the voltage drop will trigger cutoffs, and overheating would destroy your cells if they didn't shut down. Id get a pair of marine or golf cart batteries with a low volt motor controller so you can cut out your efficiency losses with the DC to DC converter. Bing bang boom. Cheap and easy.
