Thanks man! Appreciate the listen! My writing process usually follows a diatonic structure. Functional harmony more than nonfunctional harmony. I usually jam a bit with a metronome to see what chords/riffs I like before mapping the drums out. I approach it like a regular song that has vocals/singing. With that in mind, I focus on putting together a intro/verse/pre-chorus/chorus/bridge/solo. Once I have the song written/recorded I start to map out a melody I like over the track. The harmonies are written after the first melodies are recorded. Then I just play around with the intervals to see which I like better (4ths, 3rds etc). I try to keep the shredding to a minimum to build/release tension. Focus more on melody and hooks for the chorus. Hope that helps!
