Dude...this is my teenage years right there. We had a hacked ps1 back in those days...me, my 2 brothers, and 3 other cousins, and we would play for hours!!!

Clicked instantly as soon as I saw the thumbnail. Rival Schools is so bloody good and fun with such interesting characters. I hope that Akira's reception in SFV will show Capcom that they need at least include more RS representatives, if not to make a new entry. It would be so cool to see Sakura and Karin with Makoto, Ibuki and Elena in new Rival Schools

Rival Schools deserves a comeback and a collection! The games are phenomenal! Super jumps / ariels followed by insane combos! The art by Ediyan followed by the incredible music is beyond awesome! I still own my 98 PS copy and even bought the price I Japanese version just to try the dating Sim extra game!

This is an incredibly underrated game/series. Really wish a comprehensive collection could have been brought out soon after Akira’s announcement for SFV, giving us a year to soak in the greatness of the series to better appreciate the references. Still hoping we get it one day. Call it “Rival Schools: Class Reunion” I appreciate Rival Schools being officially incorporated into Street Fighter, but like Final Fight, I still feel there’s good reason to have the series exist on its own. Here’s hoping for a new game someday. Call it “Rival Schools: Senior Year”

This game came with two discs, an Arcade style disc, and another slightly different version, which allowed you to let your friends borrow it and practice. Between that and the single shoulder button super moves, this was a really good game to play casually, or with friends who are "bad at fighting games".

The creator of the series, Hideaki Itsuno, has said in recent interviews that he'd like to make a third and final installment, to give a proper ending. At the moment, he is busy with Dragon's Dogma 2 development. Never the less, though.

Akira is the character that finally got me rolling in SFV, I know the chances are slim but I'd love to see her get another shot in SF6 she's so cool.

I love Rival Schools til death. The OST alone makes the game worth playing. If only Capcom released a remastered version of both United By Fate and Project Justice.

I knew from the thumbnail that this was Rival Schools. I used to play this in the arcade. My team was Sakura (briefly Hinata) and Akira (without helmet).

I just started really getting into Project Justice last week, so this upload came in perfect timing!

We used to play this game non stop on psone and bet on matches. I was literally champion in my apartment complex for an entire summer. Now I get down with my son on it.

I saw the thumbnail and thought, "Please let it be Rival Schools!" I freaking love that game. An updated version would be so dope. The tag team supers are still some of the craziest supers I've seen.

Thanks for reminding me how great the soundtrack is to these games. Listening to it again! Pacific H.S. Rear Gate, the Gedo H.S. stages, Taiyo H.S. Classroom and Illusion Space are among my favorite in the OG version.

i remember getting a backup of the japanese version on my modded ps1 back in the day. the anime intro always got me pumped. i know the songs lyrics to this day.

Recently Project Justice, the second itineration of this game had a tournament at Vortex Gallery and it was hella fun.

I remember when I played rival schools on the PS1,I just imagined Marvel Vs Capcom characters fighting in a Rival Schools engine play style. And yes it needs a comeback whether is a new game or a compilation for modern consoles with Rollback net code.

We still play this today on PS1. My 13 yr old daughter uses Hinata and Sakura when we fight.. hope they release a remake or sequel

Legendary game with Soul Blade and Bloody Roar: those games where so dope with so much ideas that nowadays games have lost (even if they have a better cgi and moves)

I remember this one. Went over to a friend's house to play it. Something clicked for me with Hinata. Also had a friend who was ADDICTED to Project Justice. This franchise needs to return and it's kind of weird it faded off. But maybe Akira's appearance in SFV hints at something for the future. Wishful thinking.

I miss this game so much. I wonder why a lot of games from capcom haven’t had ports since their creation?!

I remember seeing this game and hearing about it back in the day. Because of that, this is the first time I’ve actually seen it played. Capcom must have really liked Sakura. After Alpha 2, they didn’t seem to fail at putting her in every game except XvSF and MvC1 (unless she had cameos?)

You know why this game comes with 2 discs (Arcade & Evolution) in the PS1 port? While the Arcade disc was more or less a straight port of the arcade game, the Evolution disc ditches the "story mode" while adding alt. versions of the girls other than Akira, changed around some supers, added a couple of minigames and some other bonus content... ...and had a bunch of generic "extra" characters that you can unlock. Now here's the crazy part. The Evolution Disc was originally a school sim visual novel in the JP version where you can make your own character and interact with the cast for an entire school year while building your stats & moveset along the way! It was so popular that the game got had an updated version exclusive to the PS1 (which serves as Rival Schools 1.5, more or less) that serves largely as an standalone expansion to the Evolution disc while adding 2 more characters. That was too bothersome to localize, so the school life mode had to be cut and a bunch of pre-made custom characters were instead added as a form of compensation. The same would hold true for Project Justice, though "how" you make your own character in THAT is another story.... But yeah. This game seriously rocks.

I will be honest that a Rival Schools Collection would be sweet. It would be a lot of work because of the console package of Rival Schools 2, an extended Rival Schools 1 game plus a Visual Novel game that NEVER saw the light of day in the US but man, I would love it if they brought that in. That said, I honestly feel like this would be the kind of game that would really benefit from a Remaster treatment Rival Schools 1/2 are pretty rough to look at even at the time, so I would really, really appreciate a rebuild of it. And don't forget Project Justice in that....

Rival schools is one of my favorite ever fighting games, and I want to say competitor for best ost. I agree, Sakura in this is nuts, and my favorite with kyosuke. This game was my childhood lol.

I used to LOVE playing rival schools. I liked to use sakura for no reason but my friend did too so i had to choose a different character. I ended up using some school nurse lady in a white coat i think. She had this chiropractor grab kind of super that did insane amount of damage and i ended up making him rage all the time i would land it (which was often) XD

Rival Schools is a really cool game series that needs to be resurrected, and yeah... you could be annoyed by both Gan and Sakura's infinites in the original Arcade release (and of course, the Arcade disc on Ps1), is curious how Hyo isn't really too hard for a "secret" final boss, unlike his demon version in Project Justice. Edit: I still remember back during my high school days that at the arcades close to the school they had an ACTUAL cabinet of the game (as nowdays most of the surviving places just have a MAME or equivalent emulator on a PC adapted to an arcade cabinet) that I loved to play, good old times indeed, and as I never knew the combos and stuff (just casual play) I mostly played with Hinata and Sakura.

Love Rival Schools 1997, arguably one of the greatest alternative Capcom Fighting Games, even if it’s kind of broken.

These games are so slept on! Lots of combos. Unfortunately a lot of these games were never fleshed out. Capcoms got a great Library that they need to capitalize on same goes for Nintendos 16bit stuff. Now with video collectionjng becoming so expensive it’s in there interest to revise there entire classic library of games.

i feel like if it do come back they gotta switch genres to like a pixel art 2d fighting game or a beat em up for it to work in today’s market

This game always comes to my mind every time i play or see a fighting game. Capcom is ignoring fans amd they don't really seem to care. Even in the fighting collection there was no reference to Rival Schools was and It's upsetting. I wish they would make games like a seasonal drink where it only comes out at speak season when everywhere he has been craving it for it for so long. It's pretty messed up that we got a stage from rival schools sweet rival schools characters in the background but none of those characters are there except for Akira.

I definitely sank many hours into Rival Schools. I really enjoyed the mini games, too. This was the era when everything from Japan was the coolest and it had that aesthetic and fun style. Made you feel like a really cool kid.
