@@bwt3278 Well, I'm about to go spend some $. Hopefully they're not too expensive and I have enough $ left for the resulting property damage, injuries, and other lawsuits that are bound to occur...
@@abel6298 If you had the first clue about the history of the KJV, you'd understand what a stupid suggestion that is. It was the most accurate translation...in 1611. And that's assuming anyone should care what the bible says about anything in the first place.
Being a certified diver, I've learned it isn't the bullet that's so damaging but the massive amount of expanding gasses that rush into the wound channel that is so devastating.
even just firing rounds into a body of water not particularly aiming at anything, the pressure wave from the round being slowed down so rapidly is often enough to kill an awful lot of marine life proximity to the wave is enough to cause enough brain damage to kill fish its why firework/explosive's fishing is illegal in most places
just an FYI - Most divers wear gloves too! Also the power head is usually attached to a speargun shaft so you aren't holding it. You would not want to use a short shaft bangstick in the water as water is 25x denser than air so the shock under water is painful.
The reason why explosives are more dangerous underwater isn't because water is *dense* , it's because water is incompressible. This allows the pressure wave to travel *much* further before dissipating, as it doesn't lose energy compressing the medium it transfers through.
I feel like the entire tool including the recoil would operate differently underwater. Wander what it would be like to fire it in a swimming pool while underwater, I guarantee it would be a whole diff experience. Wonder what the damage would be as well.
Underwater you'll feel like someone kicked you in the face !! Because the Shockwave travels faster & more efficient underwater.. Therefore not a lot of divers use it.. They prefer to punch the shark, knife it or just spear it with a normal spear gun, after removing the winged tip. Shark skin is very tough, almost armored, the spear will likely bounce off it.. Unless you have a big Tuna gun or something like that , blue water spear gun, then you might as well just kill the shark if you fear for your life.
Yeah, was interested to see just how effective this was, but while entertaining I learned nothing. I can explode a watermelon with a punch; I wanted to see ballistic gel underwater
@@bigglyguy8429 oh it will fuck up a shark, or a big fish, not just by causing a huge hole in their body, but with the Shockwave of the explosion itself.. You yourself will suffer from it.. So the longer the stick, the better for your ears & eyes.
I used one of these in .45 lc when I was working as a fishing guide on Kodiak island. We used them on halibut (anything over 4 ft usually got it). The one we had on the boat was mounted on an aluminum "broom stick" about 7' long. Worked like a charm
What about that coke tin sized round which Kentucky uses in his Tyrannosaurus-Rex gun? That'll be an interesting one...especially if 7 of them were strapped together with 1 in the middle and 6 taped around the outside.
Congratulations for creating such a large RU-vid Chanel and having fun doing what you love all while taking care of your great family. Right on for you brother.
This reminds me of a Hunt: Showdown arrow type where it is literally a shotgun shell as the head of the arrow. The benefit is the arrow allows for the shotgun shell to do full damage at distance as the shell fires point blank on impact.
We make hog arrows by filling an aluminum arrow with smokeless powder and glue a shotgun primer in the end of the shaft with a Bb superglued to the primer to set it off they don't know what hit em
Used these "Bang Sticks" several times while diving in the Gulf of Mexico /SW Florida fishing/hunting for sharks. We always used 12 ga. 00 buck loads and sometimes slugs, both worked well. Mine was on a 4-5' foot graphite pole, and thrown/shoved like a spear(with attached retreval cable/line) so no recoil wounds. Now most sharks will not bother you unless YOU screwed around with them first! Good video and experiments, keep them coming.....
I've always wondered how much noise these things must deliver to your ears underwater since sound travels so much more efficiently in water. It must suck to be around one of these going off. Less suck than being eaten by a shark I guess, but still...
Same here in the Gulf of Mexico around the offshore platforms. Had a nice Amberjack on a spear gun and a shark decided he wanted it and got to close to me. 12 gauge bang stick with slug. I got my Amberjack. Other sharks ate the one I killed.
@engineergaming8920 I've done a fair amount of diving, and that's just not true. A shaker signaling device can be clearly heard a dozen times further away under water compared to in air. Tank bangers / clangers can be heard over a hundred meters no problem. Underwater horns can alert other divers even further away than that. Hell, you can hear tiny fish eating from surprising distances, and for me that sound is kind of deafening in a reef. As much as hear with my ears, I feel sounds through the base of my skull while underwater, maybe I'm the weird one though.
@engineergaming8920 Sound travels much faster underwater (for reference sound travels at 1500m/s compared to 340 m/s in air) and most people on average can hear about 3.5x better underwater (depending on water pressure, temperature, etc). It's not muffled your just hearing everything in a totally new way.
Yes, expert here in hand coverings. I believe they’ve made something called a glove that you can actually wear that will “protect your hand”. Could be a rumor tho.
The recoil energy is the same as the bullet energy, just the other way & a little slower. So, when firing it, the energy absorbed by your hand is like catching a handle sized bullet.
This hands down was the best video Matt has put out in a hot minute. Made me laugh the whole time. I was hoping from the beginning he would throw it like a javelin, and when he said “I have an idea.” I knew it was happing
ive been watching you shoot homemade ammo and blowing stuff up for years. This is hands down the sketchiest thing ive seen you do. Throwong the bang stick without having any form of directional control of the shot. I fully understand the idea behind it, but dang the last one made me pucker.
"Power heads" used to be reasonably well known and used here in Australia. Threads onto a speargun shaft as a replacement head. I seem to remember 357mag being the quite common, but I did see a couple others, including some in 303brit. Obviously not so much anymore, what with the scared lot messing with things. Power heads are still around though and mentioned specifically in parts of different states firearm legislations.
It's nice to live in a country that still gives a shit about actual freedom. Australia over the last couple decades has decided for some reason that it really wants to be the next Europestan. 🤷
I respect your altruism in the prevention of Nemos kidnapping… Unfortunately, I’m gonna have to go back even further in time and stop you, because if Nemo was never taken, I would not have gotten to voice Becky in Finding Dory… And I really like the fact that I was in Finding Dory.
@@jeffv536 The slowmo guys or smarter every day did a test with explosives under water ... you do not want to be in the water whan kabooms go off ... trust me! :D :D
@@tondaty Isn't it even more dangerous than to be nearby and explosion in the air? As the water transfers the pressure wave directly into your body and your body being mostly water... oof.
Almost 60 years ago I got an after school job in a machine shop painting machine parts. It was a complete shop with everything and a lot of working stock. My friend and I would shoot set screws through tube stock with the numerous compressed air lines. Then I got an idea. I drilled, and tapped some solid round stock to make handles for quarter inch id tube, threaded the end and fashioned a chamber to screw onto it. Using a firecracker and a set screw I had made a single shot rifle! It was deadly powerful completely passing through a car door and almost through both sides of a 55 gallon drum. In theory, I could have used black powder but was afraid to try.
Typically bang sticks are mounted to the end of a Hawaiian sling or a spear gun, something with some mechanical power to force is to hit harder. They kill more by the concussion/explosion underwater than the bullet itself. The cartridge can also be painted with clear nail polish around where the bullet is seated in the case and the primer to waterproof it.
Yep. I used to do this all the time when I scuba dived. We would go spear fishing and shoot 30+ pound ling cod or halibut. Not something you want to shoot with a spear with a point. I did shoot one, once with a spear with a point, before I got my powerhead. I was down about 80 feet and after shooting it, it was pulling me through the water by the line. I had to work my way down the line, hand over hand, until I got to the fish, and could kill it with my knife. Was way too much of a battle 80 feet down.
"To test this though... we need to go to the ocean. But we dont want to, so we're just going to do it in this home depot bucket." Probably my all time favorite demolition ranch quote.
I was a Machery Repairman in the navy. I was on a salvage ship! We had a detachment of navy salvage divers on board. I used to make bang sticks for them. Mine were chambered in 45ACP , 410 gage, 29 gage and 12 gage.they were a lot of FUN!! just an fyi you need to remember that they are designed for use under water. and that softens the recoil and most of the guys wore a glove when they used them. Love the videos!!! Keep up the good work!!!
Us old guys remember the great father Lloyd Bridges in the TV show "Sea Hunt" using the 12ga version on those pesky/aggressive sharks. After the shot, they usually only showed a few seconds of the ensuing feeding frenzy when the shark's friends started chasing him (with entrails trailing) to have a snack!
@@mrrooter601 id throw a loaded gun (not a sig) before this thing. at least the gun would have a drop safety. With this thing, drop fires are the main /feature/.
Nemo and the orthodontist had me freaking dying laughing I love Matt he’s freaking so funny and knowledgeable!! Love it keep it up guys!! (REWATCHING ALL THIS VIDEOS)
I'm from Florida and never knew if anything outside of shotgun shell bang sticks... And you looked all surprised by them... Where I was surprised by all the other calibers 😂
There were just so many “that’s what she said” opportunities in this one. Very funny Matt. I have been watching you for years and you are still bringing it every video, every time. Awesome brother!
Awesome video. I'd love to see how deep these bullets would travel into a block of ballistic gelatin, especially something with mass like a 240gr .44mag and 12 gauge slug.
we use to use black iron pipe 3/4 inch nipples about 8 inches long, and 2 pipe caps with holes in the center for a blunted roofing nail and electrical tape to hold the roofing nails in place. loaded they always landed on their ends firing at least 1 of the 2 rounds (think hand grenades ).we threw them at cars, and windows during our "war games"
What about a receiver sleeve to hold the end of the stick and a secondary handle to graspless shock directly in the hand have a cup that fits end exactly
You should get a cheap above ground pool and use them in it. I have never used one but I think the recoil will be less if you and it are underwater. The pool will be good for more videos as well. And if you’re interested in spending a little bit of money you could get one bigger than most in ground pools. And you can get a bigger liner and dig it too be deeper or have a deeper section.
