For maximum distance set the line mode on PE since it’s the least braked mode. If it’s semi windy I put in Nylon mode and if super windy/skipping, the Flourocarbon mode will be your friend

Like all Brake system, DC will only limit backlash and it very good at that. It doesn’t completely stop black lash tho.

It would be great if you used a line counter to tell us exactly the distance it truly cast. DC reels aren't cheap & we buy them for both distances & of course limited backlashing & we can't forget the whine sound..

Looking for a new finesse bait cast for primarily flukes, senkos, and other “weightless” lures. Do you think this reel would be a great option for that style of fishing?
@LakeProTackle
@LakeProTackle 6 месяцев назад
I think it would say this reel will be able to preform very easily at the lower end of weights especially with a weightless bait. I am not sure about bigger baits on the reel mainly because it is a smaller sized reel. But for weightless stuff easy!!

For 500 bucks it should spool itself and tie the line to each lure. lol

Looks like a great reel. Which do you think would be better for inshore fishing throwing light around 1/4 ounce lures. This metanium dc or the new daiwa steez sv tw?
@LakeProTackle

For little 1/4oz I would go with the Steez for sure. I like the DC reels for variability in casting. Shoot us a dm on social and we can get you taken care of.

For the price of those reels it should be a amazing reel lol. But there's no reel that can't be backlashed someone will definitely find a way lol. Experienced anglers may not but some newb probably will blow it up 😂. Same as happened with all other DC reels.

I'll stick to my zebco 33 that can also backreel, which costs less than the tax on those reels. I have two friends ( they don't know each other ) and they both always bring two spinning reels and two bait casters. They never use the bait casters. I think its the "image". And they laugh at ME, and my very affordable equipment. And I manage to catch as many fish as they do, sometimes more.

@@LakeProTackle I'm not trying to hurt your business, but 500 plus for a reel....( Oh, it makes that nice sound ) it's not that serious. And if you never backreeled a fish ( you can't with a bait caster but some spinning reels still do, and zebcos 33 ) you don't know how much fun it is. You never have to worry about adjusting the drag since it's as high as it goes. Your reel becomes a winch and you use the rod to fight the fish, not the reel. When a fish can spin the handle, you know you got a good one. And real solid hook sets. This is old school stuff but it's incredibly fun. I've backreeled every fish I ever caught.
@mirno7953
@mirno7953 6 месяцев назад
i don't think you understand that bait casters and spinning reels are more for lure fishing. You cant do that on a zebco 33 in all circumstances. a spin cast needs all the weight it can to cast. You have no intention of buying a baitcaster or spinning reel you just wanted to say this to validate your purchase which you dont need to. I have owned zebco 33s and used 8-20lb mono and 15-30lb braid which I troubled casting multiple light lures. The speed ratio is so bad. 4:1 is dreading on how much you have to reel plus the handle size is super small. No one is using a 33 for pitching,jigging,trolling and jerk baits. Bait fishing yeah sure. Throwing anything over 1oz yeah sure but Lure fishing it is terrible. Back reeling is irrelevant if you are using the right drag and line. Bait casters are meant for heavier line and bigger spinning reels you can throw on 40lb braid. You can also open the spool on both or you know enjoy the fight with drag. so back reeling is something of the past and is mediocre stuff to be honest. I don't know what you are catching but you can definitely rip lips if you are winching in heavy bass.
@mirno7953
@mirno7953 6 месяцев назад
@@peterolbrisch8970 one more thing to add new drag systems are way better at wearing a fish down than back reeling. I can say that from experience. I have old and new reels of all sorts and all kinds. So these new reels have a way better in depth drag than older ones from early 2000 for all reel types.
@peterolbrisch8970
@peterolbrisch8970 6 месяцев назад
@@mirno7953 First of all, I use ten pound fire line and don't have any trouble casting at all. 1/4 to 1/2 ounce. It casts surprisingly far. A few people have even commented to me that they didn't know they could get distance like I do. And to say backreeling is irrelevant shows that you've never tried it. You like to use the reel to fight the fish, I like to use the rod. I never worry about drag tension, every hookset is solid, and I've never ripped a hook out of a fish's mouth. I fish from shore, so trolling is irrelevant. But don't take my word for it. The advantages of backreeling are clearly stated in the book, lunkers love nightcrawlers, by the editors of fishing facts magazine. But tell me this, you seem almost offended. Why? It's no skin off your nose, but you act like it is.

With 14lb fluoro you can only put around 70 yards. In my opinion 70 yards is as far as you will ever need to throw a lure.

dc reels typically cost about $70 more than the same reel with conventional braking, but you don't get better performance from them. if you don't properly use your thumb, it's going to backlash like any other reel. all you really get for your money, is the noise. i've been fishing with a dc reel as part of my arsenal for the last 4 years, alongside several reels without dc. sure, it's a nice reel. but it doesn't cast better or worse than my other reels. dc braking is snake oil designed to catch fisherman, not fish. i posted this on a major bass fishing forum to see what other dc owners thought. not a single post disagreed with me. if it was better, someone could step up and explain how it's better and what it's doing, and where the improvement is. so far, in the last 4 years, i haven't seen one video or read any forum posts, that even make the attempt. all the videos like to cast lures that fly well. show me a dc reel outperforming a conventional reel, casting a big willow leaf spinnerbait into the wind

I've been using dc reels for 2 years now. its really good for people who start casting with baitcasters. Once you dial it as it should be you'll never backlash. You only have to thumb it before it hits water. Easily get 50 meter casts without any thumbcontrol. That dc isn't snake oil as you mention. It works, and it works good.

I mean there have been tests that shows the metanium DC versus metanium MGL. Now since the metanium DC is a 70 sized spool they can compare to the Metanium MGLs and actually outcast the MGL while being more consistent. The new metanium DC now can out preform the MGLs and for an extra 50 bucks I’d say why not. Don’t get me wrong though I absolutely love my metaniums. Got a 16 metanium MGL, 20 Metanium MGL, and just placed an order on the 24 metanium DC.

To some extent, I think you're absolutely wrong. Casting in daylight is essential, and thumbing is useless for optimum distance during a night session as you cannot see the bait/lure.
@cheezyridr
@cheezyridr 4 месяца назад
@@atirissumanum5141 you can feel the line on your spool becoming backlashed with your thumb. if you're casting for distance, either in the dark or in daylight, you still need to use your thumb effectively. i can't speak for everyone, but when i cast with a baitcasting reel i modulate my thumb based not just on my eyes telling me what the lure is doing, but also what i feel the line doing on the spool, and the noises i hear from the reel

I terms of overall distance I believe them to be very similar with the MGL 2020 just beating the DC. With that said the dc is much more versatile when it comes to different casting scenarios.
