put handles on the bottom parts of the nets so you can drag them up into the ship manualy

:D, I've been making nets like this since the first boat I built with them and it never even made me think how revolutionary it actually is :D

To fix the balance issues you were having at the end, you can put the small hoppers at the very back of the boat against the back wall, and connect them through duct lines to large hoppers/ducts you place closer to the middle of the boat. Ideally you can put the large hoppers under the deck as low as possible to lower your COG. Another thing I have found is that there are some fishing gantries that cannot reach as low as you have your hoppers set. To make it more career friendly, place two or three ducts vertically on the deck, connected to the main reservoir. At the highest point you can also place rope anchors to tether the vacuum to the duct. Otherwise, cool video and I like your findings. I will do some testing later on my net system with your idea

The criss-cross is a good tip and not something I would have thought of. I've noticed I am hitting an issue where the net gets too big and sags more than it expands from the weight and restrictive 40m length of the winches. There's definitely a sweet zone where you get maximum expansion based on the net size and winch length and I'm looking forward to trying this with larger winches.

uhm so prof, i thought of something, and im actually testing it rn, what if you deploy your net while stopped, then proceed to cast the fishing rod near the net, wouldn't that automatically attract fish towards the net edit: this requires further testing, not sure if they had placed systems in place to prevent such cheese, i will build something later to test this specific thing out, if this works i think i just created feeder fishing in stormworks, lmao edit 2: so after a bit of testing with my regular fishing boat, i can confirm that you can catch fish with the net by casting the rod close or inside the net, you can even do that by moving the boat very slowly too,so it doesn't scare the fish

If you control the winches separately. If you let out more for the upper outer corners it should fix that "sagging"issue you are having.

Real trawlers use something like fins or "otter boards" that are connected to the net to help spread it out. I think with some proper rigging you could solve your overlap issue with those otter boards. If you look up "otter boards" you might notice that it'll require more ropes. Real trawlers usually disconnect the otter boards from the net in order to pull the net up on a big drum.
