The assist into tag system is very similar to Power Rangers Battle for the Grid. Which is such an underrated gem of a fighting game.

I'm a pretty old LoL player, loved the whole League media, arcane, the lore, the music, the game's* (runterra is so good). And im just a casual fighting game player, i dont think i have over 50> hours in any fighting game but pretty much played the most popular ones, DBFZ, Skullgirls, MK since 3, Some Tekken, a lot of Soul Calivur, Smash... yadda yadda. BUT IM HYPED for this, i wish this game gets me into the fighting game genre as im into MOBA with league. SUPER hyped man!!

It would be great seeing you checking out LoL characters, their backstories and abilities and stuff, and seeing which ones you'd like in the game. I'd personally love Sona, Taric, Nautilus and Ezreal

I recommend watching Arcane as a starting point for learning the lore. It's based on the LoL lore and not an exact representation of it, but it's a good jumping point. Especially since it'll give you background info on Jinx and Ekko, who are already confirmed for Project L.

I love the little jab at BBTAG by specifically including walking as a movement option.

I've never really been too much into fighting games, but your content always makes it interesting to watch and learn about.

Jargon I didn't understand: OTG Push block (presumably getting pushed way from the opponent when blocking) Active switch (switching the active fighter?) BB tag (presumably something to do with Blazblue)

As someone who loved BBTAG, I'm happy to see its mechanics live on in this game.

Seeing a lot of similarities between the tag setups and combos in PL and the Tag Assaults in TTT2. Which is perfectly fine with me.

If you are intersested in the lore and background of the potential characters and the world overall the 2 best places to go to would be necrits channel, who specializes in LoL-lore, or if u have time u can try legends of runeterra the, the cardgame which has a lot of lore, art and champion interactions

I notices something about active switching that I think is a really big difference between this game and BBTAG. Everyone in BBTAG likes to sandwich the opponent in between two characters and then active switch during an attack for left/right mix. What's so special bout PL is that there's a freeze frame when you active switch, meaning you no longer have to guess in that scenario anymore.

I found you through fighting games and still get surprised when you upload a fighting game video.

Illaoi is basically perfect for a fighting game, lorewise. Her entire religion is about strength through challenge and conflict.

I'm SO excited for this game. Literally every character can fit into the roster with their own unique playstyles inspired by their MOBA counterpart. They've gotta have a martial artist/brawler like Lee Sin, Vi, or Sett. I also wonder how support based champs like Yuumi and Sona could play. My top 3 I want is Riven, Yasuo, and Akali for the E D G E 😂

I know that people shit on League but if there is something they got going for them is the overal animations, effects, character designs and sound design. I feel like this game will get a ton of hate just because its League related but overall from all I have seen, it looks great.

if you like turn based rpgs you can check out the Ruined King as it introduces some of the League cast including Illoai, that's how I know her since I have played LoL in many moons.

The smash mod for Brawl was Project M (for project melee) so project L is a reference to project M, no way they go with it as a final name though.

It looks sick. I have high hopes for this game, even as someone who doesn't usually like tag fighters. I hope they make matchmaking and ranked play engaging and with rewards and stuff to incentivize you to climb.

Riot may have their issues, and their balancing can be shoddy, but moba's and FPS' are inherently toxic communities, Riot's quality assurance is insane, they polish the fluff outta their projects and they are almost always bangers. This is the same company that in the old days would make entire flash games just for an event that would last a few days. And those flash games were actually good. So I expect good things out of both this game and the MMO. And that being said, with a fighting game I'm almost positive they will flesh out a positive single player experience.

The game has always been advertise as "easy to play, rewarding to master" so everyone should be having fun, and Riot tends to update their games to ensure that they don't become stale, oppressive and/or boring with balance patches.

When it comes to movement and combos, Killer Instinct has always been the best fighting game in that aspect. This one feels like a mix of that and Marvel VS Capcom.

"Project L" is just the placeholder name for now. Basically the temporary name. They haven't figured out what to call it yet. When Valorant was still in development, they called it Project A. Illaoi is a high priestess who worships the goddess of motion Nagakebouros. That's why you see her using magic tentacles, because her goddess is a big tentacley creature. :) We love her because she is cool. Hmmm, it doesn't really look like Arcane's art style. It's really different.

To answer the question of what Project L's competitive scene will look like, here's a look at some other Riot's games: League of Legends, Valorant, heavy competitive focus. League of Legends, Teamfight Tactics, heavy casual focus. Legends of Runeterra... I can't quite tell, but I think also a focus on casuals. You may have noticed that League of Legends is in both casual and competitive. This is intended. A lot of the content airs from both sides, though higher rated people are generally more respected. Importantly, they all actually have a competitive scene. When I say that a game is more casual focused, it does not mean that Riot does not support the competitive scene. It means that you can clearly see a difference with how they treat League of legends, and Valorant, compared to Legends of Runeterra and Teamfight Tactics. What is the difference? League of Legends, and Valorant both have videos, and live events with other players IRL. Legends of Runeterra I'm more spotty, but they don't seem to have any videos, not much advertising, and I can't tell if they are live, meaning they probably are not. Teamfight Tactics is not live, people stream from their room to the event. Let's assume that the fighting game will be something like League or Valorant. What would it look like? League of legends has regional tournaments throughout the year, aside from Mid Season invitational and Worlds. Regional tournaments are regionally dependant, regions are e.g. China, KR, EU, NA, South America, South East Asia, etc. For Valorant, teams qualify for the big international event at the end throughout the year, regionally. I imagine the regions to be very similar (hard to tell with such a competing EU and NA region). For each international event, a music video is produced, there's an opening ceremony at the finals, and it feels like a huge deal. It's really hard to say where Project L is going to land in this. On one hand, it has a high competitive potential. On the other hand, the projected community might not be big enough to warrant much competitive investment from Riot. The game being easy is NOT the problem here; much like Valorant, competing in one of the harder skillcheck genres, and League, also in one of the harder skillcheck genres, Riot seems to have found a way to make the game accessible to a lot of people while still retaining the difficult aspects. In the end, I don't think this is something you need to necessarily worry about. There will be official tournaments that will be officially streamed. All the details are too far away to tell at this point in time. League of legends even differs in their own games with how they treat the competitive scene. Wild Rift for example now has allowed third parties to host regional tournaments in all other regions than Asia, because the mobile industry is that big in Asia only, and not really present in the other regions. OCE in League of Legends got absorbed into NA, only for Riot to realize that their whole format doesn't make sense if they put two regions together, so they took the winner of some third party tournament (and this might be where they came up with that idea for Wild Rift). Meanwhile, third parties are typically banned from hosting their own tournaments. In the context of League of Legends and Valorant, there is a growing emphasis on what you referred to as grassroot tournaments. League of Legends started out with a big tournament, and slowly developed smaller tournaments going from there. Valorant started out with a lot of smaller regional tournaments, and grew into the bigger official tournament from there. Huh. a league of legends fighting game. honestly, this is a SURPRISE to me. I mean, a MOBA, a cartoon series, a card game, and now THIS.

I am really interested to see what they do as far as input types. I don't remember if they ever really clarified on that point or if people are just assuming it's gonna be easy inputs since the people behind it made Rising Thunder. The tag system reminds me a lot of Power Rangers Battle for the Grid which had easy inputs so that may be an indication that they're doing that. I personally hope that they do something like Granblue because easy inputs really mess with my brain since I've been playing regular fighting games (and specifically tag based games like Marvel) for a long time.

riot has two great things that they bring to their games. The competitive scene is great, even beyond league, games like valorant and tft have active competitive players (even LoR), but these games still manage to balance the competitive side with the more casual players. On the other hand, I'm hopeful that once the game its out we will get frequent updates, as that is riots true strength. Their games might be unbalanced and stupid, but it never stays that way for more than a month. Small patches are delivered weekly and bigger meta shifting patches, arrive twice or thrice a year.

It's not a fighting game but if you want to get a bit more familiar with the characters, I definitely cannot recommend the Ruined King enough.

you pretty much hit the nail on the head for my thoughts as well as someone that plays league occasionally though i was never big into tag fighters much more a fan of BBCF and what not but this might be one i put time into depending on who else they add to it. so far looks pretty solid

Riot always names their projects Project [letter]. Valorant was Project A for example. Also it's good there's a tool to break combos, that is one of the most important things. Otherwise you get a hacky sack game like Tekken.

Project L is probably gonna be my first "serious" attempt at becoming decent with a fighting game other than Soul Calibur. I've tried MANY times to get into fighting games but, while they're super fun to watch, I always struggle getting into them for many, MANY reasons. I tried to get into Strive when Bridget was released but after about 20 matches online, and far too much time practicing a single Bridget combo that I forgot the moment I got into an actual match, I lost motivation. I tried a few times to get into Street Fighter, Skull Girls, Thems Fightin' Herds, Smash Bros, and a couple others. But each time, I either hit a wall or realized that I'm way too far behind the curb to catch up. Fighting games are also rife with terminology that I haven't the time to learn. That being said, as a long time League player, I'd be remiss if I didn't, at least, attempt to give Project L a decent shake.
