If I remember correctly the director of the game only had a year to finish it. There was someone else who was working on it before him, but he really didn't do much (there was no basic animations for Dante) and Capcom had a deadline so, sadly corners were cut

@@ricardoquezada108 not to mention the original team and director didn’t work on the game and development started before the reception of the first game could be processed. Imagine if yakuza 2 was rushed into development just as yakuza 1 went gold. Rather then giving the original team a year to make a game. That’s a hard feat even back then but it’s doable.

@@ComicWriter-ml3qt on top of that, the team who worked on DMC2 were not experienced in making games outside of arcades. Honestly it’s a miracle Itsuno even salvaged enough to be playable in 4 months. Hence why Itsuno demanded to make 3 since he didn’t wanna be known as the guy who made DMC2

I was just wondering what if my first Devil May Cry game was 2? Would I like 2 and get disappointed that the other games doesn't focus on guns, or would I enjoy the games and forget about 2? Then I read your comment.

I was the exact same way. I don't remember how I even got DMC2 but I played the hell out of it and felt so accomplished for beating it. When I heard that everyone was like "Aw man, 1 is the best, 2 is trash" I was like "It can't be that much better. It's DMC2 after all!" and I played a bit of 1, and to this day I still really don't like DMC1 because of how it controls. That said, I also now despise DMC2 as a game, because it's hot garbage. I have no idea how in the hell we ever got a DMC3 but I'm so glad we did. DMC3 was so much fun from start to end, even with some frustrating bits here and there, and everything after that was fun. 4 is not nearly as crap a game as a lot of people make it out to be. It has it's flaws for sure, but I still get so much enjoyment from it. DmC may be a weird and unwanted take on the series, but damnit the gameplay was good and I got invested so I can't be too harsh to it, even if it pales in comparison to the identity of the original series and 5 was a blast. I love this series, and I will forever thank DMC2 for existing to show me it, but I refuse to ever hold it any higher than that, cause this game deserves nothing if not 8 gunshots to the spine.

For me all the dmc games and the anime(not include the dmc5....for me is a garbage)are good

That's asking for a lot for a game where your Stinger is real bad and one of the bosses has a better Stinger than you.

DMC2 only had 6 months of production with a good developer.

I've been thinking about that as well after I did the different difficulties for this game for the steam achievements (it is NOT worth it). My best guess is that they were going to have Dante flip or jump right out of the way from the helicopter to smoothly transition into the cutscene, but they either forgot or didn't have the time.

Yeah, Itsuno said that he only made DMC3 because he didn't want to be known as the guy who directed DMC2 (for four months).

It really says something about the people who were making this game before Itsuno stepped in when the Stinger was the only thing they had done, and DMC 2 has the absolute worst Stinger in the entire franchise.

It's the price I pay for being a completionist.

Neither did Dante's design. His best design was wasted on this game, and I don't understand why they didn't bring it back for Dante in the third or fourth game.

Can't say I blame them, but it would be a nice gesture to include it one way or another.

I really feel sorry for Lucia. Such an amazing character, stuck in this piece of crap of a game. I really hope she comes back for DMC 5. She deserves better.

Just said the same thing. As much as I want a remake for the original, this one deserves it the most, for justice if nothing else. Every DMC should to be good. That said, they certainly should retain its essence in the sense his abilities should remain the same but MUCH better fleshed out. Meaning, no styles. It's all meshed together with new combos and sick environmental combat, and of course nerf the guns

at the very least this dante was in smt nocturne as a secret boss who can also join your party and he acts like dmc1 dante. its a shame he's not very good though

@@OkamiDude15 he's not a secret boss. He is involved in the story and fights you like 3 times and has a chase sequence with you. Dante is great but he's terrible for TDE.

Somebody on the executive board at Capcom must have a longstanding trauma regarding helicopters. Maybe their mother died in a copter crash or something.

I played this first on the HD collection just to get it over with, beat Dante's side and that's it.

I beat every difficulty with every character.

I played up to level 5.

Look, it's the people who never discovered playable Trish before DMC4SE made it cool.

I managed to finish it by virtue of it being the first DMC game I ever played. It made me neglect the series for years afterwards because I thought EVERY game was this bad. Hell, when I played it, I thought it was decent but that I was awful at it. NOPE! Just BANG BAG to victory, fuck my stupid life. And fuck this gamme for ruining the series' first impressions for me.

Plus really. Ebony and Ivory are god tier in this game. You don't need to go melee.

There are very very few people who say that. Even the ones who hate DmC with all their guts admit that DMC2 is worse.

Many would argue that DmC isn't even part of the series. Because technically it's been booted aside for DMC5 and isn't likely to be picked up again. Oh fuck did I just jinx it?

@@cmmagamers now that you mention it: 1. Lucia is the only female who's legitimately in love with Dante. 2. Unlike Trish, who's a demon but has no unique DT form, Lucia has her own unique DT design

@@zovinchen3281 Yup, she has some interesting things going for her. Hope to see her back when/if they do DMC 6.

Honestly Lucia having her own weapons and skills give her an edge over Trish as well in terms of combat. Yeah Trish has lightning and Sparda's pistols but other than that all she had for a main weapon was the Sparda and now that it's gone it's just lightning and guns unless they explore her hand to hand combat more.

It would be cool if there was a plot point where both the amulets were infused by demonic alchemy, and Dante and Vergil would be combined into one boss that Nero or a new character has to fight, like he’d have a first form which is normal mix ups of dante and Vergil’s kit (stinger,soul swords,”schum”) and then the second phase could be a full DT mode

@Eurobeat Lover Sky The problem is they're so tedious to fight. They mostly consist of walking back and forth while shooting. The ones that fly give you seconds at a time to use melee attacks so there's no real incentive to bother with them.

DMC2 isnt nearly as bad as people paint it to be. Its flawed, its too easy, but if you're looking for an entertaining hack n slash DMC2 is full of cool stuff. Twosome time which evolved into gunslinger style, wall running which turned into trickster style, best devil trigger in the series, Majin Devil trigger, Bloody palace, amulet system, dantes best outfit, awesome soundtrack, the list goes on

It is the sonic generation song on the stage radical high way but this one is the remix in the game but in sonic adventure battle 2 when you play as shadow the hedgehog is the original song on that stage.

current theories make more sense, dante is depresed because in dmc1 not only does he sees what virgil got turned into after losing to him in dmc3 but he also kills him and thus he goes into depressed mode and thats why his personality sucks in dmc2, then dmc4 comes along and he finds out he has a nephew so he gets over his depresion.
