Amazing to watch your journey from how you felt at the start as to why all the hype at the start through to being so genuinely stressed over choices at the end. It was hard to watch you feel so uncertain at some of them but that's just a compliment to the game/writing/etc. That's what the game does to you - it drags you in with the slow burn and suddenly you're another fan. Great watch all through.

There's a secret mission you haven't done for Emil that you should do after you beat Nier Replicant.

1:58:50 one of the very few flaws in this game is that it doesn't go very much into A2's backstory except as text. That backstory is in other nier media (books, the anime). If they had gone into her backstory in the game a little more in depth (maybe even had a whole route dedicated to playing it before Route C) , this scene would have been more impactful. That said, I highly encourage you to check out her backstory, and this scene will make a lot more sense.

Blindfolds are actually goggles to give them more information visually like Artificial Reality (AR).

That 2B plot twist was heartbreaking but it made sense considering how cold she was throughout the game. She’s been killing 9S for a while, way before the game begins because he would discover the truth or get close to it every time. She was responsible for the nickname Nines too before the game. She and 9S were also pursuers of A2 and have been killed by her quite a few times before the main game. Also, 9S’ true internal feelings, he’s obsessive with 2B and would go as far as murdering her to keep her to himself. He’s a nut. There are so many layers to the lore of this world, through literature, plays, etc. It’s pretty hefty!

As far as Automata being called a love story, this is accurate especially when you consider its a japanese game. It might not seem that heavily romantic through a western lens, but this style of romance writing is very common in japanese media; less direct, less explicitly stated. Shown more through subtle behaviour or selfless actions toward someone rather than the more obvious "i love you", or kissing, or having sex, like you'd often see in western media. A "read between the lines" kind of depiction, as you said.

I really enjoyed watching this playthrough and I appreciate how seriously you took the whole process and the lore. I think you will enjoy Nier Replicant. The story and characters are stellar, although there is a lot of repetition (but it's ultimately really worth it). Regards Nier Automata, I think there should be a shout out to the voice actors, especially Kyle McCarley as 9S.

This is a funny thing but Yoko Taro made a concert about what happened to 2b and 9s after they were repaired. It’s good! I saw it live in Bangkok!

If you have already started play Nier replicant I suggest you watch a youtube video of the game "drakengard" Nier is technically its sequel with its own ending E. the games have nothing to do with each other narratively. but if you want to know why both games talk about a red dragon falling from the sky, thats ending E of drakengard. its an old ps2 game and you can't play it without emulation so i feel no guilt in telling you about it. you don't need to know it to enjoy Nier but it adds some context.

I enjoyed your Automata playthrough so much. I played this and Replicant a couple of years ago, in the same order as you and Automata is now one of my favorite games of all time. I skipped a lot of side stuff, so that was fun to see. I can't wait to see your Replicant videos next!

1:58:41 Since 9s put on the arm of one of 2b's copies (which are creations of the machines), his circuit was connected to the network of the machines and the virus he experienced could not completely eliminate him (that's why before deciding between 9s and A2, 9s' eyes started to turn red). Then, when A2 hacks 9s and enters inside, she sees that there is a light that is a bridge between 9s and The Tower and destroying that would restore 9s to normal. So A2 asks her pod to take care of 9s and she, in an unknown way, destroys The Tower from inside and, when she comes out of that hacking system, it is the scene at the end [C] where The Tower collapses together with her. By the way, I played this game almost a year ago and it has been my favorite game so far. So much so that's why I started watching gameplay/reaction from other users on YT and that's how I ended up here. I loved all the dedication you put into the game and the side quests. And I agree, this game is a masterpiece!

There was a bit of story lore in another game that referenced Nier Automata, and raised an interesting point. 9S had hacked 2B to temporarily cure her of the computer virus during the assault (prior to losing the bunker). This gave him access to all of her memories. Whatever his suspicions were up to that point, that revelation would have told him everything about her mission to keep killing him.

I'm glad you gave this game a chance. I bought this game on a whim back in 2017 with no prior knowledge to the series and it's left a mark in my list of games that I liked.

After the end of Replicant playthrough you should watch ending Y of Automata.

I had considered mentioning the holding down to hack thing since I don't consider it a spoiler, until I saw how far RU-vid is behind Twitch. Unfortunately I'm at work during the lives, so I usually can't catch them.

This was really interesting. I’ve never seen somebody do this order of the games. I was very interested in how playing Automata first would affect the understanding of some story events. It seems like this mostly works, except for this last bit of the game where a lot of replicant sttuff is brought up. This is really difficult to understand without the context of the first game.

There's some extra stuff with Emil and side quests in this game. Solid content, but if your eager to get to Replicant I wouldn't blame you. For my favourite quest. It's gotta be the tragedy that was 11B's memento. It's not that complicated, but the log you find on her body just breaks my heart every time.

Super summary of the timeline (NO SPOILERS FOR REPLICANT): - Humans exist -Humans create Androids -Humans are dying -Androids try to save humanity -Androids fail and humanity becomes extinct -After a long time, the aliens attack -The androids resist trying to protect their home (the earth) -Aliens create machines to fight against androids -Machines kill aliens and become interested in humans -The war between machines and androids lasts for thousands of years -To ensure that the androids continue fighting and do not give up, they create YoRHa and the council of humanity -As YoRHa are the only ones who know that humanity is extinct, they are designed to die, so no one will ever know the truth. -When they were created, as they were designed to die, it was thought that it would be inhumane to make them like normal androids, so they used machine cores (made from the enemy) -As they used machine cores that allowed the machine server to hack YoRHa easily and know everything.

for me the first ending A/B isnt THAT cringe but regardless of knowing its context, its enough to still take me out of the moment.

Learning that it's possible to purchase achievements is a bit disheartening. I'm currently in a 75 hour long run to 100% the game... Oh well. I'll still keep at it, since I feel like purchasing them now would be a betrayal of all my effort so far.
