It’s funny how Kristi gets accused of not being relatable while she talks to us casually from her bathroom and puts on a mask in an owl 🦉-esq pattern while wearing comfy sweats like a best friend would. Yes she’s in a a nicer house and has remodeled her life with money that she painstakingly earned as an influencer (which isn’t a common job) over many years; but there has been a very realistic timeline that has led her and us here. She’s still down to Earth. She’s stayed kind and grateful.. and she has never been hot-headed and full of herself like many others who have made it this far. I don’t get it. She’s very comfortably relatable to me. And my life is nothing like hers. I do look up to her and the life she’s chosen/built.. it’s what I want to a great degree. But she makes it attainable imho. Inspiration isn’t unrelatable unless you stifle your own self. ❤

Just my two scents on homeschooling, as someone who was homeschooled from kindergarten until I graduated high school. I would not homeschool my children. I missed out on some very important experiences, and I had severe anxiety and depression as a teen because of being homeschooled. My mom also did everything "right" to help me be social and grow a community, but from my own experience, I don't think you can always replace a "traditional" schooling experience. No judgment on what you decide, just wanted to share as a now-adult who was homeschooled.
@eternallyhiz
@eternallyhiz Год назад
I was also homeschooled k-12 and that is the reason WHY I am homeschooling my kids, we had so much freedom and flexibility I didn't miss the traditional experience at all. It did really help that I had a decent social group with cousins/church. I also went to college so didn't feel like I really missed out on having a school experience. I'm so sorry to hear that it wasn't positive for you.

Many communities now have home school co-ops that are very similar to traditional school. My girls and I are involved in one that meets 2 times a week for @classes” and our kids actually are allowed to participate in extracurricular activities through our local school. Pretty much we have the best of both worlds. I was a teacher for 10 years and I am SO glad that my girls and I are not consumed with that life anymore.
@arielfonseca7148
@arielfonseca7148 Год назад
To second the other comments, and to shed light on this for any prospective homeschoolers, homeschooling has come a long, long way from just strictly working all day at a dinner table with no social aspects to the education. There are once or twice a week co ops, independent schools that are half at home classes half at school in a traditional setting, doing traditional homeschooling and participating in a local school's sports, etc. There are lots of opportunities to involve your children with others and many different ways to go about that. The way the current educational system is- and is heading, you can't really beat the superiority of a specialized, tailored education for your child, especially when people realize how many options and ways there are to go about that. Probably the key aspect of homeschooling is the ability to understand your child's learning patterns and preferences, and then be able to build a curriculum that matches how they best learn and digest information. And that can absolutely include plenty of social exposure.
@mimmiolin9138
@mimmiolin9138 Год назад
This question is super interesting to me. As a teacher myself, I personally have a hard time seeing the benefits of homeschooling. Parents, however awesome they may be, are not educated teachers. I just find it hard to imagine that a parent (however ambitious or well acquainted with the curriculum and school system) could provide the same quality of education as a teacher who spent 5 years at uni. However - I am very unfamiliar with homeschooling (not a thing in Sweden) and heavily biased being a teacher myself so take my opinion with a grain of salt. Would love to learn more about how it works (might write a paper on this). Do you take a course in homeschooling? and How does grading and assessment work? Please let me know. And just to clarify- I don’t know enough about homeschooling to ever pass judgement, and it obviously works well for a lot of people. I’m just a biased non-American, carefully sceptical of a system I know too little about.

@@mimmiolin9138, I have a Masters in Education and was a public school teacher for over 10 years. I wanted better for my girls than what our public schools have to offer. The US public school system is a very broken system and it varies greatly from state to state. In my opinion, a dedicated parent can definitely provide a education that is just as good (often times better) as the public school system. There are numerous curriculums available for homeschooling so you’re not starting with nothing. Some of them are scripted even. There are also various curriculum that are online that are taught by people that are either teachers or who have been thoroughly trained.

I loved your response to the "relatability" question. I've gotten this comment from time to time. People feel entitled to my life remaining the exact way they deem "relatable" (which is all relative like you said.) Like no, I'm no longer a newlywed with young babies on the struggle bus in a tiny home. LIFE CHANGES, PEOPLE! (I've been on youtube for 9+ years so naturally our life upgrades as we work and strive to achieve our goals and dreams.) This has been such a frustration as a content creator but your not-giving-a-crap attitude was refreshing and encouraging! Thanks!

I'm now on only 5mg of prednisone and still on my full dose of cell cept and on hydroxychloroquine and Pregabalin. My significant other wants kids someday, and I do too, but having Lupus is my biggest reason as to why I'm leaning towards not. I fear I will flare again, and since I almost died the first time, I'm scared. I don't know how long ill be taking Cell Cept. Or even if I don't need my meds anymore someday I fear that once I'm finally good, and I choose to carry a child it could put me back to square 1 and put me in a place where I can't care for my child. I also fear that I'll always need extra help and there's nothing wrong with that, I just.. what if I dont meet my child's needs..I appreciate you talking about it.. and I'm sorry I dumped all that..

@@optimisticadventurer5492 first let me say I’m sorry and I really understand. Please don’t apologize for sharing this with me. Trying to respond concisely as I can. They said I wouldn’t be able to have children carry to term or might not even live to be 40 during the first couple years of my diagnosis. I’m 48 and have a very healthy 25 year old son. That being said i also have endometriosis and it did take awhile to get pregnant we weren’t really trying but we had been having unprotected sex for about 5 years but I had watched Roseanne and she talked about putting your legs up after sex lol and on our 2 year anniversary of being married I did it. And it worked!!! To my surprise I found out in October I was 4 months pregnant. Fortunately I had been doing well but I was put on bed rest and had to be induced early so my son was 5 weeks premature and weighed 5 lbs. he’s now 6’2 ! Soon as he got out of my body he took off!! And has always been healthy! My health was pretty good for about 10 years until he’s dad cheated and the stress really took a toll on me. Things declined over the next year or two and then I was able to go back to teaching for a few more years. I then had a seizure while driving and broke my neck back both my feet and I haven’t been able to work since. There’s definitely been times that I have felt guilty for not being able to be the mom I planned on being. However because of my health issues etc my son is such an amazing guy. So empathetic caring giving. He’s going to be great husband to his fiancé. I believe it was all part of God’s plan and that he has a plan for you too. Trust in him with Everything! Sending you love and prayers an abundance of blessings and health. What’s your name?

I completely get not wanting more kids because of the post partum depression. I had it terribly after my first and when I was pregnant with my second, I was terrified of the after math. What I will say is that I found it easier because I wasn't as hard on myself or determined to do it 'by the book' because I had more confidence in my own skills as a parent. I had a windfall situation happen last year after LOTS of work invested in a business that unexpectedly exploded, after which my best friend of 20 years decided I wasn’t relatable anymore (but dug up a bunch of reasons why I was a bad friend to mask the painfully obvious truth, even though I’d been there for her day and night 24/7 for 2 decades)… it seems two types exist: those with the ability to feel happy for others fortunate circumstances, and those without. I bet a million you don't know _exactly_ how your beef was raised. These farms are for-profit organizations and when it comes down to it, they'll choose money over animal welfare. They have to. Most beef is also a by-product of dairy farms and as you know there's a lot of unethical practices in that on top of the obvious killing of a young animal who would've otherwise had years and years of life left. You said: "everybody chooses their own diet or lifestyle". Why isn't this sentiment applied to choosing to use whatever makeup brands? It's just a choice right? Because like with makeup, most people can go the rest of their life without animal products and be just fine.

I also have been versions of vegan and vegetarian. I was hardcore vegan in my 20s and totally relate. That said, I think you have to be careful when you speak about only eating animal products that are ethically sourced because I sure as heck don’t believe that anything coming from hello fresh is (and yes, we do get HF from time to time). I don’t eat meat, but do eat dairy and sometimes fish and will be the first to admit that I’m basically going against my only personal views in doing so. When I eat dairy from hello fresh , a lot of restaurants,or any other store that isn’t locally produced and verified, I in no way believe those animals have a great life. In fact, I believe it’s likely from favorite farming situations. I hate that I’ve become this because I truly do care about animal welfare. But I have to be honest with myself. Motherhood broke me. I totally get that it’s not all black and white and any effort is worthwhile, but just be careful what you put out because while a lot of your food might be from local farms, clearly not all of it is. I’m not even saying it has to be since every person needs to decide for their family, but I wish you’d made room for the fact that you aren’t vetting at least some of your food for animal cruelty conditions.

I agree. Also I think it would be helpful to recognize the huge amount of privilege that comes with being able to raise your own animals or buy direct from a farmer.

I absolutely do. This is part of the “not all or nothing” for me. Hellofresh is wonderful healthy convenience for our family. Still well balanced but not perfect (as I can’t get where the meat or dairy is sourced from) but I do the best I can at this stage in my life. This is where I make the choices in the majority of my life (and eggs, beef etc) and choose to eat some chicken products or others from hellofresh etc, it’s tough but nobody’s perfect! I just do my best with where I’m at

@@RawBeautyKristi I totally get it! I completely fell off the wagon when I had cheese after years of being vegan. With my first, I started my pregnancy vegan and by the 38 weeks I was literally eating large Dairy Queen blizzards and eating cheese blocks (like a savage, didn’t even cut it). I sometimes am disappointed in myself because I really felt so committed up until then, but motherhood is so hard. 🥺 I do what I can, as we all do. I didn’t mean to be critical. I have loved you for years and still do. ❤️ I appreciate how honest and open you’ve always been. It just took it as though you were saying all the products you get were locally sourced, etc. And if they aren’t, I completely understand why because that’s hard for most people to achieve.

My two cents on homeschooling is that as a kid I valued the interactions between myself and my teachers as a child growing up, and I valued the outside influence I had that was separate from my family. I don’t think I would have the values and opinions I have now as an adult without that external influence when I was developing. I really don’t think clubs and extracurriculars cherry-picked by my parents could ever replace the modern studies club I joined where I got my first taste of feminism, or my history teacher going crazy against nationalists. I don’t think I would’ve seen the world as beautifully as I do without seeing it through my art teacher’s lens, or understood how much random people value you as I did through my head teachers care. I just don’t think you could replicate that experience for a homeschooled kid. I think school is important to give children the freedom, within boundaries, to experience different worldviews and opinions - to me it isn’t just a place for learning.

100% this. I’m vegetarian 95% of the time. If I’m eating something I didn’t make and they used bacon as a flavor, for example, I’m not going to turn my nose up. Mix until a nice brown paste and leave on 10-15 min because the ACV can be harsher on more sensitive skin so adjust that amount to 1/2 if so! I hope you do try it! I have seen such amazing results. Yes, I am dealing with the constant fear since becoming a mother. Sometimes I have to close my eyes and breath through the wave of fear and pray to god to please take the terrible thoughts out of my head. I’m so scared something bad will happen to her. Literally all the things you listed, the car crash, someone breaking in, someone running over her in a parking lot, I think of these things every day. The fear is the price of loving this much I guess. When she was first born I would find myself unable to sleep because I was afraid she would suffocate in her bassinet. I would sit there in bed startling awake every 5 minutes and touch her to make sure she was okay. So afraid. But that eventually subsided, and I realized she would be okay. So I guess this fear will subside at least a little, someday.

Still, I had extreme anxiety over having PPD.🤦‍♀️ with my third, I had all the things, but I was better prepared for it, and so was my husband. About homeschooling….going with the flow is fine. With my daughter, she went in and out of public school a few times. Just because you pick one at one time doesn’t mean it’s a life sentence. There were years my kid was really feeling going to school, so she did. There were years where she hated it, so she didn’t. She’s 22 now and doing great. We home schooled through most of middle school, and I’m glad because middle school kids are brutal to each other. I think skipping that whole thing did wonders for her self esteem. She went to public school through most of high school, and that was good because she formed great relationships with friends. That’s where she met her girlfriend, who she now lives with. She’s successful and happy, and that’s all that matters. So just go with your gut.
