I love it for just off the greens. Definitely much harder to chunk than a wedge or short iron, but also definitely not for every shot around the greens. I game one, but I also have a few other wedges.
Already carry a full bag and can’t see dedicating a chipper instead of my wedges. For short bump and runs from the fringe I just choke up on my 3 hybrid and swing like a putter - similar experience.
You could definitely still use a lower lofted iron, I just feel like this chipper didn’t get the leading edge stuck in the ground. Given I won’t actually be putting it in my bag, I thought it was an interesting comparison
For some reason I never use my 5 iron I’m always either a 6 or a 4 iron away I might take the 5 iron out for the Cleveland chipper. Another thought is to take out the 3 wood as my 3 hybrid goes a mile and straighter
I've been a user of cleveland smartsole 4 chipper since it was released and i can use it from 110 yards and below... I used to score 120to130 per game due to chunks, thin and shanks... but it went down to 100to105 when i bought the chipper.. When i learned how to use it 30,50,70 yards to 110 yards i can now score 85to88... Very useful club... The cleveland smartsole 4 chipper has 42 degree of loft, so i removed my 9i and pw, since my 9i has 40 deg, pw has 44...
