I got the number 8 of 700, and it's already become my daily. Every now and then, I look at it and do a double take. It's staggering in it's beautiful finish.
I just went to the GS boutique in NYC and tried on the "Tokyo Lion" variant which is more a brown dial. I felt the thickness was almost overwhelming, but this series of watches is just so epic. Congrats on your 8/700. I'm really really really tempted to just make the leap!
It is an elegant blend of technology and refinement, that dial coating is reminscent of walnut. Would definitely chance it on my skinny wrist, but need to try one on to really know.
Love it! Yes I do have the wrist to carry this off and ot would suit my aging eyes. Love the Spring Drive Chrono GMT layout and the horology and history behind the movement. Love that color too! I may have the wrist size but not the wallet size right now. In terms of lug to lug my Pelagos Red Moo Chrono FXD has 52mm lug to lug and there's plenty of room either side , my Doxa Sub 300 T-Graph I think is 46mm case size , not sure what lug to lug is but fits fine. I could probably go to 54 or so lug to lug I think
Tried it on, at 6 inch / 15 cm this watch fits fine, pretty surprised as some smaller watches are too big. Dial is on the Hotaka is amazing. 50 lug to lug is about my maximum
Looks incredible. There's something retrofuturist about the case shape, bringing to mind the wedge-like supercars of the 80s. It's a chunky monkey for sure, but like Zach said, one for swagger, there's nothing shy and retiring about it. The dial layout might take a bit if getting used to, but for this one, I'd happily put the effort in.
Saw this on display back on W&W2024, this dial is insane The watch itself isn't for me tho, but I definitely am interested in future uses of the dial technology
The dial itself looks beautiful. Grand Seiko, incredible watches but somehow I haven't owned one yet. I'm still happy with my plain Seiko MM300 which has been incredibly reliable on jobsites, weekends, and vacations for years and years. One of these days I'll give GS a try.
I finally bit the bullet and got the GS SBGE253 41mm gmt. I also have a sieko prospex which i love but holy smokes. The level up on finishing is so evident when you go down this path. Check it out
You can clearly see at 2:58 there's quick micro adjustment with 13 steps in the bracelet. Not just the drilled 4 holes. It's the same bracelet that Seiko Marinemaster has.
Yes that is correct I should have mentioned. But, I will say this sort of diver’s extension is not ideal for daily micro adjustment because the “teeth” are exposed when extended rather than hidden if that makes sense - Z
@@Timeandtidewatches I agree it's not the best solution. It still does the job and I use it occasionally. But I wouldn't want to see this on a Grand Seiko of that price.
The complaint about lack of micro adjustment is that for a $13K watch the micro adjust should be built into the clasp, not drilled holes on the sides like it 1984!!!!! 🤦♂️🤦♂️🤦♂️🤦♂️🤦♂️🤦♂️
The dial finishing is stunning! But I don’t like GS chronographs…these Spring Drive ones are too big and ugly with fussy non-balanced dial layouts. And their recently introduced purely mechanical chronograph is just too plain and looks like pretty much any other nondescript chronograph 🤷♂️ as for lug-to-lug, I prefer a maximum of 48mm, maybe 49mm at a push.
I'm sure this watch is attractive to some but to me, GS just kept repeating what they previously made. Look at the snowflake dial for example, how many variations did GS make? Also their sports models are way too big for wrists that are below 7 inches. The last reasonable GS diver (to me) was the SBGX115/117. GS just continue to build big bulky timepieces and with the repeated (variants included) dials, this brand drove me away. Of course, this is only my 2 cents, yours can be different.
a very difficult watch to shoot. Just so you know. The dial requires direct light on it to make it dance the way it does. We had 15 mins to shoot it. This was not in our studio. So def less than ideal shooting situation. But I gut your frustration. As its also mine.
