Do like my old boss used to. If you actually SCREW UP (not paying attention, stupid driving etc..) You get the S*** detail for awhile! (I had an incident, dumped a rear trailer of baled corrugated.) For 6 months, I was in the shop power washing trucks and trailers, washing the dirtiest parts when working on engines (By hand), weed pulling, etc.. I did anything I could to get back on the road. Never had another accident with that company in 20+ years! ALso, ended up with the nicest truck of the fleet!

IF you keep him on, he should be docked the time it took to reload plus all the time it took everyone to stop and help get it back on the road. Plus if there was any damage to the trailer, he would be docked that too. Then after it was all paid back, then consider firing him!

Now I'm not s wiseman, yet I'll shed this wisdom. A better man is a better man for the day. There's multiple contributions to this...one is, that man will take more pride in his work, he'll want to be there. Can be that one to stay late, because he's appreciated. Now the otherside to this is, does he know why he's there as well? Use your dick skidders to establish some funds. Establish bearing. Don't be quick to anger, EVER! Utilize your rational thought as a MAN. This is your time to shine as leader,...Lead. Be wise of your example...some people fall backwards on their own swords.

Actually to be a great farm worker takes years of working along with some one who has done this for years. The trainee will see all the dos and don'ts. That is true with operating front end loaders hay baler and hay rake and hay cutters. Driving a truck tractor with doubles that requires a skill that requires working with angles and a very good manager of often very limited space. Just any one who has a Class A commercial drivers license may not be what you need. I figure there was something that distracted your driver? What was it he should have saw the problem before the hay started falling off the trailer. It goes back to working with angles and managing the available space.

the amount of crap i've seen some people do with truck and trailer with the several (not few, not many) years of driving experience i have... people wrapping their trailer around light poles, going through parking lots they have no business being in and trashing cars in an attempt to get back out, driving up to a fast food drive-through and ending up demolishing the side of the business (because apparently reverse doesn't work in their brain), and of course dropping trailers off into culverts/ditches... but i think continuing to move forward when you can't see what you're doing is definitely at the top of the list for stupid mistakes i think what may have really happened is, he was taking a nap or paying attention to his phone while driving and didn't want to own up to it so he used the "the sun was in my eyes" excuse to "explain" what happened... because i can't believe someone would actually be stupid enough to think "i can't see anything, but i'll keep going anyway because (whatever)"
