One of the reasons Nash got the second mvp was because Stoudemire was injuried for most of the season only reinforcing how key Nash was to the team. Having debates about the mvps are the fair but it wasn’t some travesty that he won two. It just looks weird that Kobe and Shaq combine for two mvps as top 10-15 players and Nash as two as a 40-50 player. What also contributed to his first mvp was the fact no one thought he would have that big of an impact. If you look at the predictions going into that season most thought the suns would be a 7 or 8 seed while Shaq did what was expected of him. The context in which in won the mvps are as important if not more than looking at his numbers.

1st year because they went from 29 to 62 wins and the difference was steve nash instead of stephon marbury (even though Marbury was traded mid-season). All the main players were already there (Joe Johnson, amare, shawn Marion) . 2nd time Joe Johnson left to atlanta and amare played 3games and they still won 54 games.
@finlayson6868
@finlayson6868 Год назад
@@JKTProductionzIncNCo There was pretty much no justification for him winning the MVP over Kobe in 2006, aside from the fact that the media didn't want to vote for an accused rapist. That's a fair angle to take, as the MVP represents the league, but let's not pretend that it was about basketball. I remember the coverage at the time, and it essentially boiled down to Nash playing "the right way", while Kobe didn't. Which is hilarious in hindsight because Nash never won a ring, despite playing "the right way" and Kobe won 5, and 2 FMVP. Kobe's 2006 season is among the greatest single statistical seasons ever. Saying that doesn't make someone a Kobe fanboy, it's just a fact. You could make a composite of Duncan's best seasons - both advanced metrics and box score stats - and it wouldn't compare to Kobe's 2006 season.
@onlyfacts3178

and the fact that when he was on the bench that team would lost all the advantage...and that one those 2 seasons without him they only got 2 wins and 9 losses ( i count the game that he left in the 1st period)....
@finlayson6868
@finlayson6868 Год назад
@@onlyfacts3178 A lot of that had to do with the fact that Nash was the only true point guard on the roster. He definitely impacted the team’s success, but part of the reason they struggled without him is that they didn’t have another true point guard. Barbosa was a shooting guard who was forced to play point.
@sethrockwood
@sethrockwood Год назад
It wasn't just his passing. It was how shifty he was, how unpredictable he was, and how efficient he was. His efficiency and the speed at which he ran the offence is why he was the leader of the best offence for multiple seasons, and why he won mvp twice. The importance of efficiency seems to get lost in todays game. We love to talk about how many points guys are putting up, and how amazing they are offensively (James harden at Huston, Luka now), but those guys always get rocked in the playoffs because of poor efficiency.

Sports, like most things, are about context a lot of the time. It’s clear that given that you are a new NBA viewer there is a lot of context lost in your evaluation of previous eras. It’s easy to look at the numbers and question these MVP decisions but at the time people were just so damn enamored with how Nash was able to completely change the identity of the franchise in such a short period. He was in complete control of the offense like nothing we’ve ever seen. It was truly something that stats couldn’t express. With that said, I do think that his 2006 MVP could be debated but I don’t think that it was as outrageous as people keep saying it was.

People talking about how Nash turned the 05 suns around but not enough people bring up the fact how he replaced Stephon Marbury, a star guard in his own right. Heck, even D’Antoni was already coaching the team before Nash arrived. The fact that swapping an all-star guard for Nash just pumped 33 more wins out of a team just tells how the stat sheet doesn’t capture his impact in the full. Nash’s scoring numbers also go up in the playoffs, which further proves that he just chooses not to score as much in the regular season because, well, it’s an oiled machine!
@pedroaugustocosta2533

They voted for Nash because he was a fresh air to the league, on an era with slow movement, iso ball, and a lot of misses, a fast, run and gun style, where everyone runs and shoots, and do it fast, and it efficiently is funny, people loved to watch Phoenix because they're simply the funniest team to watch, and seeing a white slow dude just running around like a maniac, hitting shots one after the other, doing highlights ever time he find an open man, on a team that would run, would dunk, would shoot, and still being a competitive team that would gave anyone a run for their money? That's why they voted for him in 2006, I agree with you that Dirk deserved more, people just talk about Kobe, even though he was in fourth place way behind Bron, Dirk and Nash, but I can't get mad on their voting for Steve. And just to be clear, in 2008, Dirk lead Dallas to 67 wins, and Nash were super close to win back to back to back MVPs, he lead the Suns to 61 wins and Nash put 18,6/3,5/11,6 on 53/45/90 splits, if Dirk had won 1 less game, Nash would be a three times MVP, let that sink in.

Yeah, in my opinion he didn’t shoot often enough! He dropped 40 at least once and could’ve done it way more. Especially in today’s game with how they launch 3s.

@@josiahmorris5799 This. He prioritized the offense of the team over his own and only scored when the team needed it and when they didn't he switched to floor general mode. Kobe (I think) said he could assist like Nash does, but he never did that, that's the difference and no offense to Kobe obviously. Plus Nash's scoring efficiency is still insane compared to most players ever. To think that people believe he couldn't put up 30pts a night when he played are just ignorant. His assists would of suffered (and with it the team's offense) and maybe his shooting % but he could of done it, he was an assassin.

@@shiftyeffect6597 He could have scored more but he didnt want to, his game was based like a traditional pass first Guard like Stockton. That being said if he gives you 20 on amazing efficiency AND gets 11+ assists hes helping your team a lot, getting guys involved and helping the flow of game.

11 assist is equivalent to a minimum of 22 points, maximum 33, a mean of 27.5. (Not even thinking about how many potential points with good passes that ended in misses) So responsible for 42 points of a team every night? That's pretty good

Plus hockey assists where his selflessness led to another players assist.

If Nash played today he would be a top 5 player easily. The current gameplay is made for his exact skill.

Regardless how many he scored, Nash was basically setting up every single bucket Phoenix was getting. He's the sole reason Amare got that insane Knicks contract

who could have predicted after nash left the nets would just blow up? hope his experience with that team didn't ruin his passion for coaching bball.

Nash did deserve his MVPs some people rate getting your team involved more than individual points you put on the board.

It wasnt just his stats, it was his efficiency, winning games on a team that was weak, and amazing passing. Sorry vs 23 points a game on average efficiency isnt better than 15 WITH leading the league in assists.

Imagine phoenix records during those years if they played an ounce of defense.
